Change Of Plans (part 2)

Carlos spoke unsure how she even knew he had one, "You really think I'm just going to give it to you?"

"Yup," She said with anger and confidence, "Or should I put in the report that you called me Chica and didn't really care to know my name when this mission started?"

Carlos laughed softly as he shook his head, "I don't give a damn whatever you put in your report," he took a step back away from Cara.

Cara gave a groan as she then explained to him, "Look, Oliviera. This changes plans and I need answers, now. In your pouch pocket is the answers I'm looking for. Answers.. Team Charlie wants to know."

Carlos glanced around him and saw her whole team glare at him. She knew how to intimidate someone. With how wreckless she was with her own pistol he had no clue if she was willing to beat the phone off of him. he stood there and gave a heavy groan as he then reached and pulled out his satellite telephone and spoke calmly and defeated, "Press 9 before you call him, otherwise you'll have all of HQ hearing in on the call."

Cara gave a calm smile to him as she reached over and took the phone, "Thank you," she then did as suggested as she then dialed Chris' cell number. She pressed the speaker button and allowed the whole team to listen in on what was about to be heard. Everyone huddled towards the phone as the dial tone rang.

".... Carlos! I wasn't expecting a report so soon. Did something bad happen?" The voice on the scratchy speaker had Chris' usual optimistic tone.

Cara gave a grin as she spoke with sass, "Hello, Lieutenant Redfield."

There was a moment of silence before they all heard an audible heavy sigh, "Captain Ambers. How did you get your hands on this phone?"

"I asked. Sir, something on the mission has given us several questions and we wer-."

Cara was easily interrupted by Chris as he spoke more firmly to her, "Do you think this is a game, Captain Ambers? I just walked out of a meeting with the other founders! Why are you calling me?"

All of the faces of Team Charlie quickly soured with a look of regret. All except Cara, who spoke up, "Apologies, Sir, but we can confirm that Mr. Burnside is a BOW. We were hoping you would tell us how to proceed."

On the other line, Chris spoke more quietly, as if he was talking out loud to himself, "Damn. That wasn't what I was hoping for."

"You knew?" Cara sounded a bit shocked. Chris usually doesn't keep things from her, especially with a mission.

"I had no way to confirm if it were true. It was just a guess until now. If you can confirm that he is still sentient then proceed as if nothing has changed. Your mission stands," he said with a firm tone, confident he was not wrong.

The team looked at each other's reactions of disbelief. Even Carlos looked a bit confused. Cara spoke up unsure why Chris would persist, "Sir!"

"Steve Burnside is an ally to the BSAA and Terrasave. It is essential on this mission that he is to be retrieved alive. Proceed with caution. I'm ending this call," and with that, they heard a static-y click that ended the call. Cara stood there as she stared at the phone in confusion.

Carlos thought for a second and gave a sigh as he realized something, "Terrasave, huh? Now it makes more sense," Carlos then reached over and took the satellite phone and placed it back in his pouch.

Cara looked at Carlos in confusion, "It does?" she said as she faced Carlos. Carlos then gestured to everyone as he then placed his gun on the ground rested against the wall. Carlos then sat down. Cara knew he was going to need some time to explain. They had little less than two days to finish this mission, an hour to rest would be fine, "Tucker."

Tucker stood straight as he spoke, "Sir!"

"Get the MRE's out. I think it's about to be storytime," Cara said as she rested her gun next to Carlos' and sat in front of him with her knees to her chest as her arms hugged her legs. She was obviously cold.

Tucker gave a shrug than a nod before he unzipped a pouch from his hip to reveal pocket-sized airtight sealed bags. One by one team members took a bag and tore the seals open to reveal a granola bar and dried fruit. Everyone started eating except Cara.

Carlos stared at her for a second and spoke, "How much do you know about the Ashford prison and the antarctic umbrella facility?"

Cara relaxed and made her legs crisscrossed as she responded, "Everything that Claire and Chris Redfield put on their reports of the incident," she was confident that she remembered everything that report had, including the information about Steve Burnside, "What does that have to do with TerraSave?"

Carlos gave a soft sigh confirming that Cara did not know. He glanced at her team who may have been eating the whole time, but had their eyes on Carlos, listening to the conversation. Carlos knew, if Chris trusts this team then Carlos would too, "Claire Redfield is now a member of TerraSave. She and Steve were in the majority of that incident and she and he made a promise vowing that both of them would get out alive. Was it in the report that two had shown signs of intimacy towards one another?"

Cara was a bit stunned at this statement. She lightly shook her head as she averted her gaze to Carlos. She was a bit stuck in thought. She soon spoke out loud, "He told me that this mission was going behind the companies back. I figured it was just an emergency mission he needed to be done. You're telling me that my Lieutenant is making this personal and has me doing this personal mission with my whole team?"

Carlos gave a not-so convincing shrug, "Throughout my whole time knowing him, Chris has been nothing but selfless and caring. I cant tell you if he is making you do a selfish mission. If it is, it's the very first time I've ever seen him make a selfish act."

Cara had a look of distaste and frustration on her face. Annoyed that the one person she trusted the most seemingly just used her. She really did not know how to react to such a discovery. She scoffed as she spoke, "So what? Is he just gonna take Steve to Claire's front door and say, 'Hey! I found you a new boyfriend! Please continue the Redfield lineage!'"

Carlos laughed softly to the statement and gave nod, "I doubt those will be the words, but I'm sure this is all for Claire's sake."

Cara sat there with Carlos and both made a heavy sigh at the situation. there was a moment of silence until she turned to look at Steve.

Under them, at the simulation, the crowd of undead monsters had all been chopped to bits and laid still all about in the area as Steve was missing. "Woah, shit! He killed them all."

The rest of the team looked out and saw the undead massacre and they all stood straight and started packing their food away. Cara had to think fast. She was now working against protocol because of her lieutenant. She knew if she played her cards right, It would only be Chris who would end up in a lot of trouble with the BSAA.

She took a deep breath and stood up and grabbed her gun, "Alright! Here's the deal, folks. We will proceed with the mission and follow the orders of our lieutenant. Any casualties or injury will end up in the report along with the conversation I and Carlos just had. We are simply following orders. His ass will be the only ass in trouble if we just do our job right. Understood?"

Carlos stood and chuckled. He liked this captain's sass. The rest of the team gave a nod. She gave a bright smile to her team. No arguments, no disagreements. This is why she loved her team. They understood her and willing to back her to the end.

She gave a nod back to them and turned to face the door that was straight ahead. Before they could even take a step forward they heard a sound at the other side of the door. A screeching cry that whistled in the back of their ears. Everyone's gun rose to the door and half a second after the door crashed open to reveal three skinless four-leggers with tongues longer than 2 feet that hung out of their sharp teeth. Their mouths hung and drooled as their heads hung forward with no eyes and no skin. Their brains protruding out of their skulls as they hissed and hummed in whispers.

Of course, the one thing that would slow the team down right about now. Lickers.
