8 Fishing

A little later within Viridian City, Kimi finished her training with her two new partners and then headed out of her house with a bag full of different things and a long pole on her back.

She walked through Viridian City until she found herself in front of a large pool of water that was just outside of south part of the city.

Kimi sat down with Growlithe and Eevee by her side and then started to take everything out of her bag as she began to assemble everything together.

A good quality fishing rod, line and lure were put together along with a small cube that was attached to the hook.

She flicked her rod back and then forward as the lure and hook went forward into the water so Kimi sat cross legged with her eyes closed.

The Eevee and Growlithe carefully guarded her as she sat there silently with her hands carefully placed on the fishing rod in front of her.

A part of aura training was to keep a calm mind so activities like fishing were perfect for training the mind and patience, her aura swept over the fluctuations of the water and her own fishing rod so she was able to detect the most subtle changes within the water.

The moment that something had been hooked would be known by her so she would be able to act right away and pull it in.

It also helped that she had prepared the most suitable bait to attract a water type to be captured.

Water was the weakness of Growlithe but it also covered for fire damage caused to the surroundings.

One careless ember or a stronger fire attack would have very real consequences but it was also true that she was lacking in a water type Pokemon that could handle firefighting duties during a search and rescue.

With the inability to pick Squirtle after getting second place in the test, she had to find her own method to fill that role even if it was temporary.

She sensed a faint movement and a slight tug on her rod so she pulled it up and started to carefully bring the line in without breaking it. "Urgh.."

She soon saw a fish appear coming out of the water and it then landed on the land. "Eevee use tackle! Growlithe use bite!"

The fish put up very little resistance and could not get close enough to attack or was slower and had less ability on land so she shouted. "Eevee use helping hand! Growlithe one more bite!"

The Magikarp had very little resistance as a Pokéball hit it, it then rolled and moved a little before Kimi heard the very familiar sound.

She turned to Eevee and Growlithe then praised them. "Good job! Keep assisting each other and keep the opponent from being able to stay focussed on one of you."

She had planned for them to use their speed to attack and retreat while the other attacked an opening created, with helping hand mixed into the tactic, it allowed for Growlithe to exploit an opening and finish the opponent off.

Kimi picked up the Pokéball and then said. "That is one… but you should not have achieved that much growth from just this. We should keep going.."

While it was an easy way to gain experience by picking on Magikarp and catching a whole bunch of them, they were not the best opponents for her two partners overall growth since they put up very little resistance.

All they could do was splash unless they were able to learn tackle but the one she had fought did not use such a move from beginning to end so it posed no real challenge.

She set up her rod again and then continued to sit in a relaxed state.

All that could be heard was the faint sounds of the wind and the water around her along with the breathing sounds of herself and her two partners. 'Which one should I raise? Which one would possibly be useful even right now? Magikarp evolves and becomes useful but right now it is worthless. When it has evolved it will have problems with its temperament and the size so it may not be the best choice. I had best keep going then I can make a decision later.'

Kimi sat there and pulled in another couple of Magikarps which were knocked back into the water after they were defeated then she defeated a Goldeen that was unable to use peck effectively on land. "Good job you two."

As Growlithe and Eevee started to show growth in their abilities and their confidence, Kimi allowed them to battle one on one against the Magikarp and Goldeen that she pulled in.

She continued to remain patient as she sat and then pulled out another Pokémon from the water one after another.

The day had already been coming to an end but she saw no change to the appearances of Goldeen and Magikarp so she was growing a little tired until she suddenly felt a tug on her line.

She could feel that it was heavier than before as she reeled it in so she leaned over towards Eevee and Growlithe and unhooked the straps on the weights attached to their bodies. "Eevee draw away any attacks from Growlithe and use helping hand. Use tail whip and growl whenever possible both of you. When there is a weakness shown.. use bite and tackle! Keep them from escaping back into the water."

She could faintly sense two presences on the end of the line that she was pulling in so she did not wish to have Eevee and Growlithe held back by the weights on their bodies.

They both suddenly became lighter and faster after losing the extra weight and they gained experience against their previous opponents so they were ready for the incoming battle.

Two small figures appeared on land after she pulled them in and they were both Poliwags that had both attacked with bubble but as they were about to use it, Kimi shared her senses with Growlithe. "Dodge the incoming bubbles!"

The two Poliwags were releasing many bubbles while Eevee and Growlithe both jumped and dashed around to avoid them then Kimi shouted. "Helping hand! Ember!"

Growlithe had managed to position itself in the right place to allow a ranged attack while the Poliwag were still releasing bubbles so when Kimi gave the order, the Ember hit one of the Poliwag.

Although it was not very effective, it had been boosted by the helping hand of Eevee so it still did a decent amount of damage.

While her own Pokémon were busy battling two on two, Kimi carefully avoided the bubbles and kept her senses sharp as she would not drop her guard.

Each step and movement she made did not waste any energy and it looked like she was effortlessly avoiding the bubbles with the smallest of movement possible. "Now is your chance! Eevee use tackle! Knock the injured one away further from the water!"

Before the other Poliwag could help their companion, Eevee had tackled the injured one and knocked it away.

In anger, the Poliwag used hypnosis on Eevee but Kimi could faintly detect the incoming attack so she shouted. "Eevee get away from it and both of you should avoid looking its way for now. Target its friend!"

Another ember hit the other Poliwag which was followed by it being captured by Kimi while she directed Eevee and Growlithe to work together to finish the last one before she caught that one too. "Good job! However… it would be wise to not let your guard down."

"Hmmm~ it seems that you noticed I was watching you." A chuckle was heard and it came from an adult male. "But.. a kid like you should have ran away the moment you noticed me. The city is not that far away so why did you not run? You do not believe you could beat me right?"

Kimi rolled her eyes as she picked up the two Pokéballs and then threw over two Pokéblocks to Growlithe and Eevee. "Beat you? An adult? Hmm~…"
