Sparring with the Battalion Commanders (2)

"Kael! You're up!"

"Let's have a good spar mayor!"

"Likewise!"

*PAH* *PAH* *PAH*

Just like Eden and Greyson, Kael was also defeated but it took at least thirty exchanges before Blanc could defeat Kael.

"Vance!"

"Finnegan!"

"Warren!"

"Zander!"

Blanc defeated the battalion commanders one by one. Although it was getting harder and harder for Blanc to win each fight. The fact is, he's still winning.

"Next, Sabre! You're up!"

Helena ordered Sabre to go up against Blanc next.

The soldiers were excited about this matchup because everyone knew that Sabre was only next to Leif and Alexander when it came to combat prowess.

Although Alexander is a Swordmaster now, they all know that Sabre always gives Leif and Alexander a hard time whenever they sparred in the past.

Now, Sabre is up against Blanc. Everyone is eager to know the extent of their mayor's abilities.

Fighting Sabre will surely give him a hard time which will force him to display his full strength.

"Begin!"

The match finally began as Blanc and Sabre circled each other.

Sabre was waiting for Blanc to charge at him.

He watched Blanc's past matches and it was obvious that Blanc has an aggressive and overwhelming fighting style just like their general Helena.

Contrary to his expectations, Blanc was just standing there waiting for him to make a move.

"Oh? What's wrong Blanc? Not gonna charge in this time?"

Helena couldn't help but comment.

The previous matches were decided by Blanc simply charging forward and overwhelming his opponents with various unique attack patterns.

This time, however, Blanc was slowly advancing forward while waiting for Sabre to make a move.

"Not gonna attack this time? Then let me!"

Sabre said as he charged towards Blanc. He raised his sword above his head before attacking Blanc with a vertical chop.

In response, Blanc simply raised his sword horizontally to defend against Sabre's attack.

Seeing that he succeeded in putting Blanc in a defensive position, Sabre released a flurry of different attacks.

Everyone except Helena, Alexander, and Leif,  thought that Blanc was getting overwhelmed.

Even Sabre himself thought that he was winning before suddenly realizing something.

"Oh? Sabre finally noticed."

Helena can clearly see what Blanc is doing and she lowkey couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Blanc was blocking each attack perfectly as if he knew where the next attack would come from.

"Hahahahaha Blanc is really interesting!"

Helena laughed as she had an idea about why Blanc can block perfectly like this."

"General…Can you please explain?"

Alexander and Leif couldn't help but ask Helena to explain how Blanc managed to achieve a high level of swordsmanship in less than a year.

"How else? This guy probably memorized all swordsman attack patterns! Didn't you see him show different attack patterns earlier when he was fighting aggressively?"

"I'm sure that he's managing to block each and every attack because he knows each of the different attack patterns. If you attack using the textbook attack patterns like Sabre, the crows will turn white before you can land an attack against Blanc!"

"W-What the…"

Alexander and Leif couldn't believe what they just heard. However, this fighting style truly fits their nerdy mayor.

I mean, who else will have the patience to memorize all of the attack patterns?! Only their nerdy mayor of course!

Judging by the look of things, Leif knew that it was only a matter of time before he went up against Blanc, so he started formulating his battle plan against Blanc while his match against Sabre was still ongoing.

"Mayor! When are you going to attack?! Stop fighting like a turtle!"

Sabre couldn't help but taunt Blanc. He was losing patience since none of his attacks had successfully hit Blanc.

In addition to this, Blanc's expressionless face is making him frustrated. His attack patterns weren't even able to draw even one emotion out of Blanc.

"HAAAH! Take this mayor! And this! And this!!!"

Sabre finally completely lost his patience and his sword swings started to get wider and wider.

"Idiot! Swing compactly! Don't be impatient!"

Alexander couldn't help but comment. He couldn't stand seeing Sabre's pathetic form any longer.

He always knew that Sabre had a short fuse but he didn't know that Sabre couldn't even keep his form intact when he's angry.

Blanc didn't miss this chance as he narrowly avoided a diagonal slash from Sabre. He then held the blade of his wooden sword against Sabre's neck.

"Looks like I win."

"Tch!"

"Enough! Blanc wins!"

Helena announced the end of the match and resounding cheers immediately reverberated through the sparring grounds.

Some of them immediately became Blanc's fans as their curiosity was replaced by respect and fanaticism.

"OOOOOOHHHHHHH!!! The mayor is on a hot win streak!!"

"Let's fucking go Mayor Blanc!!!"

"Mayor Blanc! You're so handsome!"

"Impregnate me, Mayor Blanc!"

Some of the soldiers started shouting wacky stuff after being hyped up. There were still matches against their two best battalion commanders, Alexander and Leif.

They couldn't wait to see if their mayor could fight neck and neck against Alexander and Leif.

"Tch!"

Sabre threw his sword at the ground and left the sparring grounds in a rage.

"Mayor! We're sorry about Sabre's attitude! He's just like that because he's frustrated with himself so don't mind him! He's always like that during our sparring sessions."

"Yeah don't worry, I don't mind"

Blanc took a ten-minute break before continuing on to his next fight.

Meanwhile, the soldiers were already going wild on the sidelines.

Apparently, someone even started a bet and the others unhesitatingly placed their bets on who they thought would win.

"Two silver coins on Mayor Blanc's victory!"

"Three silver coins on commander Leif's victory!"

"I bet five silver coins on Commander Leif!"

"Ahh! Fuck it! I'll risk it all! Fifteen silver coins on Mayor Blanc's victory!"

"F-Fifteen? Calm the fuck down man…"

"Let him lose all his money! I'll bet on Commander Leif!"

"Me too! Two silver coins on commander Leif!"

It seems that although there were people betting on Blanc, most of them still favoured their battalion commander Leif.

"G-General! Shouldn't we stop them?" Alexander said to Helena

After hearing Alexander's concerns, Helena started walking towards the person who started the bet.

Seeing that their general Helena was approaching, the elite soldier couldn't help but be nervous.

"G-General…I-Im sorry…I-I'll return everyone's bets now…"

"Ten silver coins on Blanc!"

"W-What?"

"I said I bet ten silver coins on Blanc's victory! Are you deaf?"

"OOOOOHHHH!!! General thinks that mayor will win?!"

Alexander facepalmed after seeing that Helena even joined in on the bets instead of stopping them.

Bah! Whatever! If even the general doesn't care then why should I?

"Ten silver coins on Leif's victory!"
