Chapter 7 Evolution

just treat this like a game there's no pressure I've faced more fearsome enemies behind a screen....

Belphegor stared at me with a mouth quite similar to a wide grin as the felis demons in the room started jumping madly with excitement to my display.

"this is really a show to them huh?"

[master I'd advise we save the chatting for after we've escaped]

"right...."

using shadow slash I striked at Belphegor's eyes blinding it long enough for me to make a fake attempt at escaping as just before I reached the tunnel I had entered from felis demons swarmed my escape route while making faces that I could only assume to be growling thanks to my inefficiency to hear, Belphegor charged at me with a speed I could barely follow and swiped at my head as I tried assessing every move it made to find a pattern.

"that was a bit close for comfort"

[I'd advise great caution master, another hit would be devastating]

"I know although it's better to keep it like this, the beast will get bored if I change tactics"

Belphegor lunged with great force towards me completely throwing away it's claws and instead going for a bite attack, I dodged the bite just barely and attacked with a second shadow slash directed at Belphegor's eye once more.Terrifying would be an understatement Belphegor's face and eyes reflected pure malice and deranged excitement from the pain.

[Belphegor seems more determined to catch you master]

"thats the point, the more irrational it is the higher chance of success"

as I said this Belphegor leapt at me with a speed and ferocity that caused the other felis demons to instinctively move out of the way as in the Nick of time I moved away to dodge the attack and caused the giant tiger to crash into the stone wall with a force that shook the entire room greatly.

The felis demons glanced at each other worryingly as Belphegor slowly stood up with its head now drenched in its own blood, I stepped back slowly to the entrance as Belphegor charged towards me although it's pace has slowed considerably from the damage it took, A second crash happened and Belphegor toppled onto the ground right by my feet seemingly unconscious from the blood loss of the previous impact.

[if master is thinking of devouring Belphegor now is the best time]

"that's not bad however you're forgetting I'm in a pit filled with other demons, killing Belphegor may just cause them to attack me in spite of revenge"

I slowly turned around and made my way into the tunnel while praying Belphegor was still far from waking up.

[master's level has risen by 2, regeneration complete, requirements for evolution have been met]

"wait really but I didn't even kill the demon let alone land my own lethal hits"

[would you like the evolution to start?]

"no I'll do it in a safer place than here"

I pulled myself out of the pit feeling relieved at escaping it's clutches as I walked through the grey sandy landscape that I ignored due to the excitement of my evolution, will I finally get ears?, a new skill set?, my mind raced through countless possibilities as I entered the rock shelter full ready for my new step in this world.

"how long is it supposed to take?"

[estimated duration:7 hours]

"7 hours isn't too long so how do we sta-"

the energy from my body felt like it was being drained as the feeling in my body completely left

[evolution has began]

noises I'd never heard before started flooding my head jolting me awake as I felt around my head to find I actually had ears now

"I can hear now!!"

[I'm very pleased to hear you're happy]

"system you seem different"

[how so?]

" to put it simply.....you sound like an actual person"

[evolution is also possible for system's]

"makes sense, a system has to evolve to better serve the master I guess"

[I'd like a name]

"why a name?"

[after my evolution, I...do not know]

"sigh..,I'm not good at naming...Cecil"

[Cecil? I thought you were bad at naming]

"it's the name of a person I once played with"

[was it from a game?]

"how did you-"

[some of your thoughts have been linked with my own.....there are images here I'm failing to understand although they all appear....lonely]

"don't think too much of it, it's my simple imagination for now I'd like to focus on the new things I obtained from evolution"

I slowly stood up feeling a sense of strength in my body that only excited me more.
