15 Chapter 15: Pewter City!
On our way through Viridian Forest, neither of us spoke much. Misty seemed nervous, while I simply didn't know what to talk about.
We encountered some Bug-type trainers, but I easily defeated them using my Charizard. After all, who would turn down free money?
While halfway through Viridian Forest, we still hadn't spoken much, but then Misty unexpectedly asked a question.
"What's your plan, Kurokawa-kun?" Misty asked, unable to tolerate the silence anymore.
"Hm, to win 8 badges and participate in the Indigo League, I guess! And you? What's your plan?" I replied honestly, as that's my plan for the future for now.
"To explore every region, build a strong Water-type Pokémon team, and then become the leader of the Cerulean Gym!" She said, and I feigned surprise, even though I already knew a lot about her thanks to Bulbapedia and Pokémon Wiki.
"Wow! Does that mean you're the daughter of the gym leader of Cerulean City?" I said, pretending to be surprised, though I was relieved she wasn't looking at me, or she might have noticed my act.
"Not the current leader, but the previous one, and I'm the 4th child," she said, looking down while still walking.
"Oh, well! You can do it! Even though I don't know why you sound so down, you can do anything if you put your heart into it," I said, mimicking some quotes I had read on Instagram in my previous life.
"Thanks for your kind words! I'll put everything into this," she said, smiling at me.
"No worries!" I said, and we chatted a little more about ourselves as we both approached the exit of Viridian Forest. Until, suddenly, we heard a shout.
"HEY! You! Are you also a trainer from Pallet Town?" Said a guy wearing samurai clothes.
"Yeah, so what if I am?" I said on the surface, but inside, I thought, 'Oh well, what a drag!'
I thought as I honestly forgot that a trainer with a Metapod lived in this forest, challenging trainers from Pallet Town, because I had been so engrossed in the conversation with Misty.
"I challenge you to a Pokémon battle!" He said, pointing his finger at me.
"Huh? A Pokémon battle! I guess okay," I said, annoyed.
It's not that I hate battling, but their Pokémon are so weak that they can't even withstand one move from Charizard.
'Oh, well! Who would refuse free money anyway? Let's just finish this as quickly as possible,' I thought as I extended my hand towards my Poké Belt, where I kept Charizard's Poké Ball, and grabbed it.
He did the same, releasing his Pokémon—a Metapod.
Hearing "Metapod," Misty became dumbfounded, which quickly turned into disgust as she quickly hid behind me.
"Eeek, a b-bug!" She exclaimed in disgust.
"Charizard! Let's end this quickly," I said, and the samurai and I focused on the battle, essentially ignoring Misty's reaction.
"H-how do you have a Charizard when you just started your journey a few days ago?" He asked, eyes widening.
"Who knows," I said, though I knew he must have heard from the other two trainers from Pallet Town whom he had fought.
"Charizard! Flamethrower!" I commanded, and Charizard unleashed a burst of fire towards the Metapod, whose eyes widened.
"Metapod! Quickly use Harden!" He ordered, and Metapod shone briefly before hardening its shell. But it was no use, as Flamethrower quickly overwhelmed it, knocking it out.
"Now, are you satisfied?" I asked, recalling Charizard into its Poké Ball as the samurai did the same with his burned Metapod, which was unconscious.
"But that's cheating! A Charizard against a Metapod," he complained, clutching his wallet defensively.
"But did I challenge you? You challenged me, and now you're against paying up?" I said, narrowing my eyes at him, which made him shrink in fear and then quietly hand over the money.
"I only have 100 Poké Dollars. All my money was given to the previous two trainers from Pallet Town," he said, his voice small, on the verge of tears at seeing his empty wallet.
"Sigh! Okay, 100 Poké Dollars is enough for now. Okay then, bye-bye!" I said, bidding him farewell and heading towards the exit with Misty, who had stayed silent the whole time.
"Woah! How did you get a Charizard? I thought Professor Oak only gave pre-evolved starters?" Misty asked, curious.
"Well, that's because he wasn't given to me by Prof. Oak, but rather I found him beaten when I was 5 years old. That's when I got him after taking him to Professor Oak and getting him healed," I explained to the curious Misty, who listened quietly.
"Wow!" She commented with stars in her eyes, and I nodded, proud of myself and my Charizard.
Then we talked a little more about something before finally arriving at Pewter City in the evening.
Outside Pewter City, I was with Misty, who looked a little reluctant to part ways as she had a lot of fun traveling with me.
"Well, it seems this is where we part ways!" I said with a chuckle.
"Yeah! But do you want to stay in contact with me?" She said, taking out her phone.
"Of course," I said with a smile as we exchanged contacts before bidding farewell and parting ways.
While walking to the Pokémon Center in Pewter City, I heard my phone buzz and answered the call.
"Hey! Izana! Do you know what?" came a sweet voice from the call.
"No, I won't know if you don't tell me!" I said with a chuckle.
"I'm coming to the Kanto region to start my journey there," said the lady with the sweet voice.
"Really?" I said excitedly upon hearing that.
"Yeah! And I also got my starter. Well, when I get there, let's travel together," said the same lady with the sweet voice.
"Of course! Let's travel together. When are you coming? I'll come to pick you up!" I said with a smile.
"Well, I'll arrive there the day after tomorrow at Viridian Airport," said the same lady with the sweet voice.
"Then it's settled! I'll come to pick you up," I said, breaking into a smile.
"Okay! Then, I'll hang up! I need to prepare my luggage!" She said, hanging up the call. I looked at my phone with a smile as I headed to the Pokémon Center in the heart of Pewter City.
