3 chapter 2

ch 2

A few days later,

Blade woke up with feeling intoxicated - his head ached and muscles felt numb. It was a familiar feeling, as if waking up after a night of heavy drinking. Slowly, he picked up his torso, the creaking sound of an old watered down bed resounded as he did.

His head throbbed, still afresh from the pain he received. Most of his lower body was enveloped by a duvet. With a subtle movement of his wrist, he tossed off the duvet and placed down his feet, getting ready to walk. Although difficult at first, he eventually learned to balance himself on his feet.

All this time, Blade refused to gaze at his body. He felt scared and nervous about what he would see. Although, from the feel of the limbs he could control, his suspicion was confirmed. Yet, he ignored the urge to eye himself.

Eventually, Blade with a heavy sighed, looked down at his body. Most of his torso was covered in bandages including his shoulder – the one ripped of his arm.

'Why! God, Why. I'm stuck in a place I can barely recognise and to top it off, I lost an arm,' Blade contemplated. He sat back down on the bed he awoke and started weeping. It was too much. The gravity of his situation started to dawn on him. At first, he thought it wouldn't be too bad, especially after being reincarnated into a world he enjoyed. 'I could grow strong and roam the seas carefree,' he had thought. But reality isn't as caring as one would think.

Blade ran a quick hand over his right shoulder, inspecting his new body. All he could feel was a thick layer of bandages and a huge, round bulge of skin that prevented more blood loss. His arm had been healed relatively quickly, in comparison, people who had lost an arm on Earth would take weeks for a complete recovery. Perhaps it due to the world of One piece running over completely different fundamental rules.

Sounds of footsteps reached Blade's ear and he immediately wiped off his tears. 'How would people react to an adult crying?' Blade thought.

"Boy, you woke up. Huh," Nako stepped inside, "I thought, for certain you met the goddess of death there, for a second," Nako walked towards Blade, anonymous to Blade's current feeling. Blade's ears perked up and he faced Nako, his cheeks freshly cleaned of tears.

Nako was still wearing his doctor uniform. His body seemed harmless, no scratches or marks on his neck from Arlong's grip. "I know it's a lot to process, Blade," Nako sat down next to Blade, placing his hat on a nearby table," but look on the bright side, we both, are alive. Me, mostly thanks to you, and that orange haired girl. But –"

"Huh, what do you mean orange haired girl," Blade cut him off. Nako's words were doing a number of things to uplift his mood.

"Oh yeah, you were passed out at that moment," Nako ruffed Blade's hair," some random stranger, about your age, jumped in to rescue the two of us. Her name was…. I can't remember. I didn't see her after that day," Nako smiled at Blade.

"Wait, saved us? How?" Blade questioned Nako, removing his hand from his head.

"She had some extra berries saved up, which she traded for our live," Nako replied.

Blade off course knew who he was referring to. Nami, she was the only orange-haired girl Blade knew about that lived in Cocoyasi village. And her age only added credence to his theory.

"If you're worried about your arm, it definitely won't grow back," Nako said mockingly, "You can however, get a mechanical arm instead.

After a moment of hesitation Blade replied, "No, it's fine. I'll do fine without one." Having a mechanical does have its perks, the biggest one being he would have access to his right arm again.

But the idea of having a large piece of metal stuck on your body weirded Blade out. Perhaps he would in the future, get a devil fruit that grows him an arm. There are many devil fruits out there, one with the ability to grow limbs wouldn't be strange. Robin's power being not too far off that ability.

The intensity of the situation had forced Blade to forget about a certain thing he'd seen before falling unconscious. A weird pop up screen - if his memory was to be believed - had appeared in front of him. After reminding himself of that incident, a similar, blue hologram presented itself.

[

Congratulations!

-You have passed the trial 'Courage of the weak'

-You now have access to the system

]

The screen in front of Blade displayed a bunch of text, congratulating him.

"Oh great, I've gone insane," Blade mumbled to himself. Nako, who sat next to him had no reaction whatsoever. This proved to him, only he was able to see the screen.

"Well, I'll get going then," Nako outed himself, realising Blade had overcome his grief.

Blade watched Nako out himself and stared back into the screen in front of him once he left.

The previous screen had been replaced by a slew of new information.

A while later, Blade grew accustomed to his new system. Which was a lot like the system he had seen in solo levelling, a manhwa he read before coming to this world. Right now, he was on his way to complete a 1ok run. A run that he was forced to complete because of the 'daily objectives'. At first, he was reluctant to complete the run but then he had remembered the main character of 'Solo levelling' being punished for not completing it. Perhaps it was different for his case as he was in a different world altogether, but Blade was negative to the idea of finding out the answer to that.

'Fuck, this is so much harder than I initially thought' Blade ran along the village's outskirts in a circular path.

A 30 minutes later, Blade finished his ran and willingly a screen appeared once again.
