60 Ch.60

The day came when my maternity leave came also, though now I can pretty much do whatever I want at the hospital since my discovery and becoming a world-famous doctor. Then a few days after my leave started Alex's water broke and I rushed her to the hospital. When we got there I texted everyone in one big group chat that Alex was giving birth, then I headed into the room. After a few hours of a long birth and Alex screaming in pain, our son was born. 

"Dr.Hunter please cut the cord," the OB/GYN says to me holding our son towards me. 

"I want to hold him," Alex says weakly after I cut the cord and they clean up our son a bit before handing him over to Alex. While the doctor is doing the final touches to ensure Alex is stabilized. 

"Gabe… Look at him," Alex says holding our son, smiling at him, and then looking toward me. 

I look at our little red-faced bald potato of a son, I felt the happiest at this moment in the entirety of both my lives. The nurse then took our son as they needed to do some final procedures before everyone could come to visit. I then walked out to the waiting room and saw everyone from both our families was there. Though Andy and Haley look very tired as their twins have been keeping them both very busy. 

"Gabe!" Phil says seeing me and looking extremely excited. 

"Alex and the baby are great! She gave birth to our son, though we haven't decided on a name yet," I say telling everyone that the birth was successful.

Everyone then comes over and congratulates me as everyone is hugging me, I see House walk into the room. He is standing in the back patiently waiting while looking at me. I excuse myself from the group as they are all talking about baby names to suggest to us, as I make my way over to House. 

"House, what are you doing here?" I say seeing he is here for some reason and it's been a year and a few months since I've last seen or spoken to him. 

"I heard Alex was giving birth. So I wanted to come and congratulate you both… I've learned a lot about myself and my problems over the years. I'm sorry for the way things ended between us. I was wondering if we could start over?" House says to me surprising me with the apology and offering his hand to me. 

"Yeah, I'd like that," I say shaking his hand as we smile like old friends at one another. 

"I should get back to Alex, but you are welcome to come visit once we are allowed visitors," I say to House who nods his head to me. 

Walking back into the hospital room, I see Alex smiling tiredly at our son who is being held in her arms. I walk over and sit down next to them smiling at them both feeling that happiness return to me. We just sit there in silence for a few moments staring at our son in blissful happiness. 

"I think we should name him Edward," Alex says breaking the silence as I give her a curious look. 

"You and your Dad are very close. So I figured maybe we'd name him after his grandfather," Alex says as I nod my head smiling at the idea. 

"Edward it is then," I say nodding my head and rubbing the chubby cheek of my son. 

"Excuse me, but you can have visitors now. Should I tell your families?" the nurse says entering our room. 

"Yes please," I say nodding my head as Alex takes a deep breath readying herself for the craziness of our families about to enter the room. 

Everyone comes in and begins crowding around wanting to see our son. As our son is being crowded and pictures taken, everyone is giving us their thoughts on the name. Then some of them begin arguing about the name choices they are making. Before things can get more out of hand I speak up. 

"We decided to name him Edward. Yes Dad, after you," I say as everyone goes silent. My Dad looks extremely happy and honored at the name choice being after him. 

Phil looks a bit upset that he wasn't chosen, but happy at the same time that his best friend my Dad was chosen. However, we decided to give him the middle name of Phillip at Phil making Phil happy now too. House even came in and offered his congratulations to Alex and met our son. Finally, everyone left leaving Alex and me alone with our son. 

"Do you think he will be a doctor or a researcher like me?" Alex says looking down at our son who is sleeping in his crib next to the bed. 

"Not sure, but I will do my best to help him in whatever he chooses," I say smiling down at him with Alex nodding her head in agreement. 

Like that years passed by with Alex and I having another child, a daughter who we named after her Mother and gave the middle name of my Mom. Haley and Andy had another kid too, another girl whom they named after Andy's Mom. Luke ended up becoming a realtor like his Dad, though he is unmarried and still a bachelor. 

Carlos ended up marrying a woman and starting a family of his own having four kids over the years. While Eric got married too and had a few kids of his own, keeping in touch with me. As we visit one another at least once a year if not more. Maya moved to LA too and we see her much more, she married her girlfriend from our wedding. The two adopted a couple of kids too. 

As more time went by, even with the loss of our grandparents, I looked back on my life and couldn't be happier with my choices. Even during the times, my kids challenged me or Alex and I argued about something. My life was the best thing ever to me and I'm so glad I had a much better one than what I lived in my other life. 

"Gabe, Alex! My two grandkiddos!" Phil says as we all come to the huge family get-together our families hold every year. Even Andy's family has been coming now too, making this place filled with almost more than seventy people. 

Even though our kids are now a teenager and preteen, they are happy to see Phil. Phil is like the perfect grandfather making them love seeing him. He grabs them both in a bear hug before letting them wander off to talk with their cousins. Phil then turns and gives Alex and me a bear hug. 

"I missed you guys, you should visit more," Phil says breaking our hug even though we practically see our extended family on a daily basis. 

"Dad, we see you almost every day," Alex says as Phil pouts by grumbles like that isn't enough. 

"Gabe!" I hear my Dad say walking over and giving us both a hug like Phil. 

We have some small talk before we greet everyone one by one. While we see the kids hanging out in the corner, like me and Carlos. All of our kids are close and always help each other out whenever necessary. I just sit down at one of the many tables looking at this huge family all mingling with one another and feel a sense of overwhelming joy at the scene. 

"You ok?" Alex says sitting in my lap and giving me a concerned look since I was just sitting there. 

"Yeah, just reminiscing about the past and the choices I made to bring me here. I couldn't be happier with the ones I made," I say while hugging Alex close to me and she smiles nodding her head and agreeing with me. 

"We really did come far… I'm glad we did what we did," Alex says kissing my forehead as we watch our family mingling with one another. 

"Well, come on," Alex says pulling me from the chair and making me continue to talk with everyone.
