Argument & Father?

Eragon lay on the ground, out of breath as all the Elves continued to attack Evanyar.

"How can he face all of them at the same time and still keep his calm? He's not even sweating!" Eragon asked Oramis who has stayed off to the side.

"He is a master of the sword. He is a master of the Ancient Language and magic. He was the first Rider in over a century and he learned everything he knows without a teacher (Eragon is not yet a full Rider, so he is not qualified to learn of the Eldunari). The first time I met him, I doubt he could have beaten Glaedr and I in a fight, but...he showed no fear." Oromis said before looking Eragon in the eye. "I know what Brom told you. How you were to be the savior of Alagaesia. You have been given the false delusion of grandeur. The Oath Breaker, how did you plan to fight him?"

"...I don't honestly know." Eragon said after some thought.

"You once asked why we have done nothing about Galbatorix. He and his Thirteen wiped out the entire Order in less than a decade(there has never been a time frame given for this so I'm making this up). Thousands of Riders with hundreds over the age of a thousand. Tell me honestly, what can nine young Riders do against a foe that uses forbidden magic and has had more than a century to amass his power and set up his defenses?" Oromis asked.

"...I don't know." Eragon said again.

"Exactly. Galbatorix has used forbidden dark magic to increase the growth rate of his Dragon. It is big enough to eat Glaedr in a single bite..." Oromis was saying before being interrupted.

"Then what about Evanyar? Did he use the same magic on Ēborisk to increase his size?" Eragon asked.

"No! He used a new kind of magic that he created himself. He has divulged his method of how to use this magic only to myself and Arya. I can assure you, it is not dark or forbidden on the slightest." Oromis said.

"Then teach me. I'm sure Saphira and I can become more helpful when the time comes if she grows faster." Eragon implored.

"No. This magic is for members of the high table ONLY. Evanyar revealed this magic to me only because I am a seat holder." Oromis said.

"How is that fair?! I am..." Eragon started to argue.

"You are too young to be trusted with my magic." I interrupted Eragon, having finished the spar.

"What do you mean trusted?" Eragon asked me.

"Galbatorix and the Thirteen are all human. We do not trust humans with our magic anymore. And that includes you." I clarified.

"This ring states otherwise!" Eragon shouted, holding up his hand to reveal Aren.

"That makes you an Elf-friend. Not a Rider-friend. My magic is classified as Riders secrets. For that you will have to become a member of the high table. And as I said earlier, you are too young and inexperienced." I stated calmly.

"I have fought in a war already. What more experience do you require?" Eragon asked, still not understanding.

"Life. You have not even completed your second decade of life and you want to know everything. The greed of humans was the downfall of the Riders. I will not allow it to happen again. Do not forget, you are now a Rider and will have a VERY long life. Stop trying to learn everything as if you are going to die of old age tomorrow." I said.

"What do you know about life? You can't be much older than I am, having only been a Rider for six years yourself." Eragon continued to argue.

"Boy, how old do you think I am?" I asked as I folded my arms.

"Between twenty and thirty." Eragon said with certainty.

"It seems no one has informed you. Elves live almost as long as Dragons. That is to say thousands of years and then some. Oromis himself is eight hundred years old, and is still in his prime." I said with a laugh. "I am just over one hundred years old myself."

Etagons mouth fell open upon hearing this news. His brain short circuited.

"I think I broke him." I said.

"Yes. But a reality check may be just what he needs." Oromis replied.

...

After playing around with the ink slabs, Eragon finally started to get his first picture completed as Arya showed up to check on his progress.

"Make me one." Arya said.

"Alright." Eragon replied.

After a full minute, Eragon pictured an entire tree onto a slab and was showing it off to Arya.

"It appears he is growing up and ceasing his pursuit of Arya." I said to Oromis.

"Yes. His progress in training has improved since your talk with him. He will make a fine Rider if he keeps it up like this." Oromis said with a smile.

"Then I shall let you get back to it. Arya and I still have to help with the Blood-Oath Celebration. It will be in nine months(i dont remember the exact time for this). Be sure you are both ready and prepared to attend." I reminded Oromis.

"We'll be there, of course. Maybe he can find someone for himself." Oromis said with a smirk.

"He may have already. He's been hanging out with one of the other Riders. Simsa. They have spent many a night tak

lking." I said with a knowing smile.

"Oh? I'll be having a talk with her. I don't want her distracting my student to much." Oromis said with an evil smile.

"He's doing better, I doubt she's a bad distraction. You need to worry about yourself. I've already been talking to Mother about you." I said, with my own evil smirk.

"WHAT?! You cant..." Oromis started to argue.

"I can't what?" I asked innocently.

Oromis could only lower his head in response. But I did notice a faint glint in his eyes.

"Father. I'll be taking my leave." I said as I walked away.

"Ah. Oka..." Oromis started to respond before what I said actually clicked.

"Bye Dad!" Arya said joyfully, as she followed me.

'These two...' Oromis thought with a small smile and a warm heart. 'I don't deserve you two.'
