The Victor

The clash between the two supremely powerful attacks caused a brilliant flash of light that could be seen for hundreds of meters past the ground zero, even behind walls of canyons and cliffs.

Naturally, there was also an accompanying explosion, the blast radius of which caused the surrounding earth to crack and crumble under the stress of the two attacks.

Producing a distinct sound which could be heard up to a kilometer away.

Eventually, the sound slowly reduced in volume as the flash of light started to dim and the explosion finally started to lessen in size and scale.

The Clash between the two attacks coming from two of the strongest contestents the exam has ever seen and will ever see has ended.

(A/N: He might not be first, but he is most definetly in the top ten, if not the top five.)

. . . .

Mizuki could be seen standing at the spot where the two attacks clashed, his normal jacket torn to rags, revealing his toned muscles behind his skin tight underarmour.

He was beaten and bleeding from several parts of his body, a few of the wounds would surely scar without immediate medical treatment.

He suddenly doubled over, violently coughing, spitting out a mixture of saliva and blood.

Despite these circumstances, he still had a brilliant, proud smile on his face.

He looked forwards towards the cliff to see her body, which had been launched towards it after her strike lost the clash between the two.

She was still breathing, Mizuki could still sense a faint chakra signature from her after all, allthough it was incredibly week.

It was clear that she would die if she did not get medical attention soon.

And that would be relatively hard to come by here, let alone as a cloud spy.

Mizuki let loose a soft sigh before aproaching her, softly cursing under his breath.

As he reached where he was, he pulled her unconcious body out of the clifface and layed her on the ground, analyszing her injuries.

Similar to him, she was also heavily bruised and bleeding from several points on her body .

The last exchange also appeared to have severely damaged her, breaking three of her ribs and causing a fracture in both the radius and ulna of her right hand.

Mizuki let loose a string of curses before welding a series of handsigns and applying his hand, now covered in a faint green aura, around her stomach and ribcage to heal the damages.

Unlike most other shinobi in his village, Mizuki did not really give a shit about the leaf.

To him, it was the home of some of his friends and himself over the last few years, and he would defend it for them, sure.

But the spy did not endanger any of them at all, and only happened to be facing him due to circumstance.

Besides, if he were to kill a student of the Third Raikage, he had no idea what sort of political implications that could carry.

Let alone the fact that her meeting him alone had changed the history of the world, let alone him killing her, who was supposed to survive past even past the fourth war, let alone the third.

So, he simply decided that he would heal her and then send her off.

After all, she did give him a good fight after all.

From start to finish, the conflict between the two shinobi took twenty minutes, although to Mizuki it may as well have been twenty hours.

He then quickly created a shadow clone with the minimum amount of chakra possible before immediatly disolving it.

Doing so allowed all of the memories the clone had that the other clones and Mizuki were not aware of to be transfered to them.

And whilst nothing new occured for Mizuki, the other clone did not know of Mizuki's success or failure in the mission.

. . . . .

Luckily for Mizuki, the other genin decided to respect his wishes and left fighting the spy to him.

They were currently all searching for the base, as they were required to in order to pass the test.

However, it was abundantly clear that they were searching half heartidly, their minds plagued by the thought of the fate of their two comrades.

Luckily for them, the tension of waiting would finally end as the shadow clone of Mizuki finally got the information he needed.

Mizuki: "Guys, I just got some info from the original me"

Hearing this information, everybody abruptly stopped where they were running, quickly turning around to face him as they asked him about what it was.

Anko: "Well, what happened? Is he alright?"

Ever since Mizuki had left, whilst everybody was concerned for him, it was clearly Anko who was most concerned for him, and whilst most of the genin believed it was due to their years of friendship, reality would say otherwise.

Although this is a reality that several of them would not realize until much, much later

Mizuki: "Him and Raido are fine, although he needs some time to heal him, he will rendevous with us in a little under an hour."

This statement rippled through the group as they all sighed in relief, although one question was still outstanding.

Anko: "And the Spy? What happened to her?"

Knowing that the decision the original made would not be one easy to justify, the shadow clone pulled the awnser for this one out of his ass.

Mizuki: "he fled, we were both low on stamina and he did not want to get caught"

Mizuki lied as easily as he breathed.

He also was careful to refer to the spy as a he, as by reffering to the spy as a she he feared one thing.

The wrath of the anime girls.

He had watched enough anime to know that it was NEVER a good idea for the protaganist to bring up a girl in front of another girl.

EVER. Regardless of circumstances or logic, he figured it was best to play it safe, and so he did.

The group now had all now had faint, relieved smiles on their faces as they searched for the base with renewed vigour, now knowing that his friends were safe.

. . . . .

Samui awoke in a cave that was relatively dark and humid, one of many that existed in this rocky terrain that was created as a spot to take shelter during the test.

Looking to her right, she noticed that her "teammate" for the exam was lying down next to her, maybe two meters away.

Several parts of his body were wrapped in bandages, with his righ arm pinned to his body in a splint.

Deciding that it would be unwise to stay in such an unknown area for too long, she decided that it was time to leave.

However, as she attempted to get up to leave, she felt immense pain as she felt her entire sense of balance be thrown off before she lay back down in the temporary bed set up for her.

Mizuki: "I would not do that if I were you"

Surprised, she turned only to see the man who had been her opponent in a life and death battle not an hour prior was gently healing her and bandaging her wounds.

Samui: "Eh, what are you doing?"

She quickly tried to get up, although he quickly pinned her down.

Mizuki: "Please don't move, you are going to re-open your wounds."

Seeing the genuine look in his eyes, she relaxed slightly and allowed him to continue healing her, as he expertly continued to wrap part of body in bandages.

Samui: "Why are you doing this?"

Hearing the million dollar question, Mizuki looked to her and gave her his best dissarming smile before responding.

Mizuki: "Don't have anything against you personally, so why not?"

Mizuki: "Besides, it was a good oportunity to practice my medical ninjutsu on a live patient"

Samui sighed slightly as he finished and quickly peaked his head out of the cave, roughly estimating the time by obseving the position of the sun.

Mizuki: "Alright, I need to get back to my team now, so I trust you will be fine on your own"

Samui gave a slight nod, feeling some gratitude towards the boy who spared her life and helped nurse her back to health.

Mizuki: "I dont believe I need to go into why neither of us will speak about this conversation."

She gave him another nod of acknowledgment.

Mizuki: "Excellent"

He than quickly cast some earth style jutsu to cover the craters and erase the evidence of a large scale battle occuring, making the landscape look like a battle of genin level had occured in the area.

Mizuki: "Well than Samui-san, I pray we meet again on better terms"

She snickered at the remark.

Samui: "not likely, Mizuki, next time we meet will be on the battlefields of the Third Shinobi War. Don't die before I get my rematch."

Mizuki let loose a small smirk as he picked up Raido's unconcious body and slung it over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

Mizuki: "Same applies for you, your weapons are just to your right, underneath that rock"

He gestured to where he hid her tanto.

However, just as he was about to leave, Mizuki heard her say something.

Samui: "By the way Mizuki-san, whilst I was unconcious, did you see anything?"

Mizuki: {Fuck.}

Truth be told, Mizuki needed to remove her shirt in order to give her proper medical attention, completely forgetting about the age old trope which had come back to bite him in the ass.

So, he simply came clean and said he did so, although only for applying Medical treatment.

In a surprising, yet not unwelcome subversion of this trope, she was totally understanding, although slightly embarrased as she muttered something about not being able to get married.

Mizuki: "What was that?"

Samui: "Nothing."

Mizuki: "Alright then, stay safe."

And with that, Mizuki body flickered away, leaving behind the Kunoichi resting inside of the cave, not knowing that this very meeting would affect the entire shinobi world well into the future.

Alright, next chapter probably won't be until Friday as I don't want to die in class and have a shit ton of work to do.

On a completely different note, we are currently on track to absolutely crush the power stone goal we set a month ago.

Next chapter will be the last of the first phase of the exam.

Also, the vast majority of all of my summer plans are cancelled, so when June comes the release rate of the novel is going to skyrocket, so that is something to look forward too!
