28 Chapter 28: The Abengers Part 2 

*Third Person POV*

What if Kirari and her family had lived closer to the methane zone? What if someone she cared about was hurt because of her actions? What if someone she knew was caught up in the explosion?

Of course, Kirari had already checked beforehand, and she knew that her family was in a safe location even if the worst had happened while she was exploring the methane zone, which it did.

She imagined those "what-if" scenarios becoming reality in order enter a certain mindset that can help with her current situation.

And it worked.

Dark and negative emotions rose from within Kirari's heart. As someone who had experienced unfairly losing her family in her past life, the thought of that happening again in her new life caused her to feel livid.

Her mind entered a state that was similar to the times when she killed villains during her night hunts.

"I was…" Kirari started to speak in a deep voice that did not match with her nine-year-old appearance.

The bloodthirst radiating from her as she spoke caused the members of ATK to raise their guard and enter a battle-ready state. They did not expect to see such eyes filled with killing intent from a little girl who seemed to be at the age that their own child would be at if they had any.

But almost instantly, the killing intent vanished and Kirari returned to how she was before, as if nothing happened.

"… just killing some pests in the sewers. No big deal." She said offhandedly, as if the change in her demeanor didn't happen at all.

This baffled the ATK members. They had definitely noticed Kirari's change that happened in a split second. Their battle-hardened senses had warned them of the possible danger.

"Killing pests…"

"… In the sewers…"

"… In the middle of the night…"

"Alone?"

Tetsu, Rojiya, Haruhisa, and Souji said in turn respectively.

"Yup." Kirari replied simply.

'Like hell we'll believe that!' The four simultaneously screamed in their mind.

They wanted to question Kirari more but the killing intent she showed earlier made them think otherwise.

Of course, this was why Kirari had done so in the first place. Why would she tell a bunch of strangers she just met about her night life?

While yes, they did save her a lot of trouble by picking her up after the explosion, but that did not warrant her revealing some of her important secrets. At most, she would just owe them a favor.

And so, she "discreetly" showed them that she had no intention of telling them anything.

But still, as Yakuza, they didn't back down fully and were intending to question her again.

It's a good thing Kirari had a plan B.

"Anyway, thanks for helping me out after I… accidentally caused an explosion. But it's about time I go home~"

*BAM*

Just as Kirari bid farewell to the members of Abegawa Tenchu-Kai and them wanting to question her further, a person burst into the room.

"Boss! Natsumi was captured by the Hitogami family! *cough*" The man fell onto the ground after saying that and coughed out a mouthful of blood. He seemed to have been injured on chest judging by the torn clothing and blood on his shirt.

"Takami!" Rojiya was the first to react before they all immediately moved towards the fallen Takami to help him.

Kirari had long noticed the man approaching with Electroreception and so she used his sudden entrance as a distraction to quietly slip out of the kitchen window.

Nobody seemed to have noticed as they were too pre-occupied with Takami and Kirari thought so as well. She didn't notice Tetsu giving her a side glance as she escaped, but he chose to stay quiet for some reason and not tell the other members of her escaping.

"Escape success. Now, I just need to get back home in time…"

Kirari had found herself in an alley after going out the window. She quickly moved through the alleyways away from ATK's base and when she thought that she got far enough, she poured energy into her Vision to summon Oz.

Her Vision spun and Kirari felt a headache due to the after effects of using Mega-Mind, but she endured and successfully summoned him.

"My Lady! Ho-"

"Oz!"

Oz tried to say something after being summoned but was immediately interrupted by Kirari who hugged him and started caressing his head.

"I'm sorry for making you overload before! It was an emergency and we had no choice. You're not hurt, are you?"

Kirari examined Oz all over, making sure that he wasn't missing any limbs and that everything was in place. This was unnecessary as Oz will always be in a perfect state after summoning, but she still did it anyways.

Oz had grown to become the closest person to Kirari, just like her family. He was someone that she can confide all her secrets to as they had a special connection.

Even though he is just her familiar, she still didn't like it whenever he got hurt.

"I am alright. I would gladly do anything to keep my Lady from getting injured, even if it costs me my life. I can be re-summoned, but my Lady cannot."

Oz thought that saying this would earn him some praise from Kirari but he received a flick to the head instead.

"Oof! My Lady?"

"Haaa..."

Kirari wanted to admonish Oz for his self-sacrificing way of thinking, but she knew that he was right.

Oz is expendable. Just another move or tool for her to use and reuse. Even then, she didn't like thinking that way.

Oz was family. As much as she can, she will treat him as such.

"Anyways, you did a good job earlier. If there's anything you want, name it and your generous master will give it to you as a reward." Kirari said, changing the topic.

"In that case, please consider my act as payment for the bet I lost previously." Oz stated, taking the opportunity.

"Bet? … Oh right! I nearly forgot. Hmmm. Eh sure why not. You've earned it. Shame though. I planned to get you to stay in your smol chick form for a week."

Since Oz can change forms with the Special mod, he can naturally change back to the form he had when he was newly hatched.

Hearing what Kirari said caused Oz's sweat to drop.

'If I was stuck in my chick form for a week, my Lady and my Lady's mother would...' He shuddered at the thought of a previous traumatic experience.

"So, what are we going to do now, my Lady?"

"I think we've had enough action for tonight. Change to your Zapdos form and let's fly up and figure out how to get home."

"Understood."

In a burst of purple electricity, Oz changed from his raven form to his big bird Zapdos form. Kirari quickly got on his back and they took off.

Just before taking off, Kirari took one last glance at where ATK was. She promised to herself to come back some time later and repay them for their help.

After determining their current location, they started flying through the night sky towards their home in Musutafu City. They made it back with ample time to spare before Kirari's parents woke up, and Kirari was able to get a few more hours of sleep.

Character development chapter. Next chapter will be a different person's POV for once.

Been busy getting all the requirements for immigration ready. Had to get a medical and like five different vaccinations.

Needles are scary...
