Chapter 24: The Man Behind the Nomu?

*Kirari POV*

I belatedly realized that the vibration was just coming from my phone.

It seems that there's signal here and my phone just got the message that Mei had sent a while ago.

"Staying up late experimenting again. I'll make sure to get revenge on her for scaring me like this…"

Now that I had signal, I opened a map app to check where I was.

"Hm? Isn't this place where that abandoned orphanage was? How'd I get all the way over here? Is this thing accurate? I need to get my dad to speed up the manufacturing of the new phone..."

Wait a minute…"

I looked around again at the various laboratory equipment and capsules. Then, I looked back at the map on my phone.

"If this is where I really am then…"

My thoughts rapidly spun and soon, I reached a dark conclusion.

"My Dio… did- did I just pull an Anakin on those Nomus?"

*Ding*

"GAH!"

[Level Up!]

My dark train of thought was interrupted, and I was surprised when I suddenly got a level up notification.

"Damn. Why am I so jumpy? Do your job Gamer's Mind! … Haaa. And here I am, talking to myself again. Anyway, two levels in one night, huh? Thank you for the blessing, Dio-sama."

'My Lady, I have just eliminated a Nomu that was playing dead in the basement place you mentioned earlier.'

'Nice job, Oz. I'm just up the stair-'

*Beep*

I was once again interrupted when a screen on one of the equipment near me turned on.

This time, I was prepared.

I jumped back and pulled a hidden knife out, pointing it toward the screen.

"Hoh. So you're the one who triggered my alarms."

Alarms? Shit, this place has signal! I was distracted by Mei's message. Now I definitely need to get revenge on her.

A man's figure could be seen on the screen. It was hard to tell how he looks since the lighting was dim. I could tell that he was wearing a lab coat though.

He had the whole 'mad scientist' vibe going on. Could he be the one who created those Nomus? Wasn't it supposed to be that All For One guy that was mentioned in the anime? I don't think this guy is him.

None of the characters I know from MHA resemble him. Maybe he was in a different season?

I rapidly started thinking about the identity of the man on the screen.

"Who are you?" I asked after I discreetly turned on the voice-modifier on my mask.

"I'm the owner of the place you are in, but that doesn't matter. I should be the one asking YOU that question. Who are you and what are you doing intruding in my lab? I remember locking that place down before I left due to an emergency." The man on the screen said.

Wow. This guy is surely a villain. He's already in monologue mode after I asked a single question.

Let me see just how much information I can squeeze out of him.

"Isn't it obvious who I am? Didn't you have some sort of way to monitor everything I was doing?" I asked speaking in monotone.

I wanted to see if he knew what I was doing with Oz in the methane zone. Considering the circumstances, he probably only noticed me when I got here where there was signal.

"How would I know? I do not have time to pay attention to every alarm that triggers, especially from that place where my villain factory project started. A year ago, alarms constantly rang from there, but I was too busy operating on my master to care. When I finally had time to check things, that place was already infested by my failed experiments who broke free. I could only retrieve my data before I decided to abandon that place and restart my experiment elsewhere."

So, he didn't see me and Oz going around the methane zone. Nice.

A mad scientist and his master? No, he was operating on his master so he could be a doctor.

I think there was a scene with two characters like that somewhere in the second season of 'My Hero Academia', but I can't remember clearly. The scene was placed after the ending credits or something, so I didn't think it was important.

Damn. If I knew I was going to be reincarnated in 'My Hero Academia', I would have paid more attention. Why did Midori have to be such a boring main character for me… I should amp up his training when I get back so that he doesn't end up the same way in anime.

(In a certain home)

"WAA!" Izuku Midoriya suddenly woke up.

"… I don't know why but I have the sudden urge to run away. If I don't, I think something bad might happen to me…" He said, before getting drowsy, lying back down and going back to sleep.

…

(Back to Kirari)

"'Failed experiments', huh?" I turned away from the screen and looked around.

I saw an undamaged capsule a few steps away from my current position. I walked towards it.

The monitor with the man turned off and another one closer to me turned on. This continued until I reached the capsule.

I pierced the glass with my knife and let the rotten nutritional fluid flow out. I then punched through the glass, grabbed the creature inside by the neck, and pulled it out of the capsule.

I showed the deceased Nomu that looked like a large, unborn fetus to the man on the screen.

"If you call these 'failed experiments', then what would you call me?" I yelled.

"… What? You can't possibly expect-… Are you trying to say that you were one of my experiments?"

Alright. I got him to come to a conclusion on his own. I was going to go with the 'I've always been here, so I'm not intruding' approach, but his idea seems better.

"That's right! If you are the ones who created all the creatures that were here, then that means that you… are my father!"

"No… No, that's not true! That's impossible!"

"Search your feelings and you know it to be true…"

I assumed that the man on the screen could barely make out my figure due to the low lighting in this place, similar to how I could barely see him.

Using this, I decided to make some stuff up.

I channeled my inner Light Yagami to come up with a story.

I even unsealed my special move that I had banished to the shadow realm, Guilt Trip!

"I first woke up to see my own brothers and sisters fighting and killing each other. They turned their sights to me, who had just broken out of the capsule. I fought back and stained my hands with their blood. For one year, I struggled, fought tooth and nail, and even ate the flesh of my once siblings to survive! There was no one to watch over us, no one to give us a direction or guide us. This place became a place where only the strong survived!"

I don't know if the man on the screen was believing all this nonsense but seeing that he hasn't interrupted me or said anything, I'll just keep going with it.

"And now, I am the last living experiment here. I have killed everyone else and have become the final survivor! My mask and knife are made from the bones of one with a bone quirk. My coat is made from one that had a skin hardening quirk. I gained intelligence by reading through the books and notes you left behind. All this time, I had questioned my existence. Who created me and why? Now, I know… Everything I am, is all because of you, my father!"

I stated all of this, full of emotion and was left slightly out of breath.

"… You mean to say that I had unintentionally created an isolated environment that cultivated the strongest being? Hmm. Your story is similar to the history where the Chinese made strong poisons by putting various poisonous creatures in jars to fight amongst themselves…"

Holy shit, he bought it. I'd like my Oscar now please and thank you.

But even I know that my story has some loopholes. This guy must still have some suspicions.

"If what you are saying is true, then you must be quite capable. Let me turn on the lights and get a good look at you to see whether you are worthy to be called my creation… worthy to be called my child…"

Aaaand there it is. The final verification process… Wait did he say 'turn on the lights'?

From the corner of my eye, through the small amount of light that my glow stick and the screen were giving off, I saw exposed wires all around me.

"Father, do-"

*Bzzt*

… Shit.

*BOOOOOM*
