Reincarnated as a Shadow Dragon

An 18 year old shut-in finally leaves his house for the first time in, what seemed to be, years. He was kicked out of his home by his parents and was left to wander the streets alone until he can find a job and a stable life. But unbeknownst to him, that would be the last day of his life. Not everyone's story ends with a happy ending. But that isn't the end just yet. As he is reincarnated as a shadow dragon, the last shadow dragon of its kind. But this particular shadow dragon is different. More intelligent from the rest.

Fighting the Leader

<...Dusk,> I respond with enthusiasm in my shallow voice. <My name is Dusk, named after the darkness.>

Saying that, I actually meant I named myself that as I didn't want my name to sound too gothic but still be along the lines of darkness. Dusk just doesn't sound gothic at all; something like Onyx sounds a bit too gothic for me. However, it isn't a bad name though.

"D-dusk..." The soldier nods his head before shakily pointing his spear to the largest building in this underground civilization. "That is where our leader resides. Even though we've accepted you as our leader, you still need to go through him."

Nodding my head, we both enter the 'castle' and meet with a lizardman covered in an armour made out of a dark, shiny metal. I don't know what it is though, but it seems quite thin.

The guy was sitting on a large throne made out of a shiny metal, but it wasn't gold. However, he did have a crown that was made out of gold. That must be valuable.

"What have you before me," The leader speaks in a mighty voice, one which echoes through the building. "Scratchmore?"

"T-this is Dusk, t-the dragon," Scratchmore says as he bows before his leader. He then looks up to speak again, "He wishes to challenge you for your title, my l-lord."

"Hah!" The leader stands up and a weapon materialises into his claws. "If you think anyone is going to take my kingdom away, you're wrong."

Pointing the weapon at me, which looks like two longswords with a handle to connect them both, he rushes towards me and I dodge his attack. Scratchmore immediately runs to the side lines as the leader looks at me with a cocky smile.

"Bring it on!"

Boiling the heat in my throat, I lazily swipe at the leader which he easily dodges, taking small steps back each time. However, This is all according to my plan as he doesn't notice the fire boiling inside of my throat. The closer I can keep to him, the more damage my flames will do.

The leader smirks, "Is that all you've got? I expected better from a young dragon."

<Well,> I crack my jaw open to reveal the furnace welling up in my mouth. <I'm not the most offensive dragon, when it comes to fighting.>

Shooting the flames in a straight beam towards the leader, he pulls up his weapon and it suddenly shifts into a shield and blocks the flames. It does take a little bit of damage though.

The smirk wiped off of his face, he shifts his weapon back into the dual longsword and slashes at me with insane accuracy. Every swipe, no matter where I try to dodge, it hits me.

So, using Darkness Magic, I summon an arm made out of pure darkness and it appears behind the leader and grasps him. He struggles in an attempt to move, but he can't. I'd say I've won here, but he doesn't seem like giving up.

Squeezing the hand tighter, I see a little bit of blood leave his reptilian maw, but he doesn't surrender.

Suddenly, a burst of magic shoots through my hand and it flinches long enough for him to be free. He then turns his head to me and cuts my arm. It doesn't pierce the scales too much though.

He unleashes a flurry of slashes, but I simply thwack him with my tail and he flies onto his throne like a ragdoll. But he stands back up again, and the armour he's wearing flashes green as my damage is reversed.

His armour heals him!

He laughs at my surprised expression as he suddenly disappears into thin air. I look around, trying to spot where he is, but I then get slashes on the leg my him.

So he can also turn invisible - or teleport. I have no idea what he'd done.

Then, he turns invisible again and appears at my snout where he then slashes me once again. Every slash feels like a papercut, it doesn't hurt that much but it is an annoyance. Actually, that's a bad description. How much a papercut hurts can vary between people.

The leader turns invisible again, but then I realise a pattern. He's only reappearing close to me so he can get a few hits in. He isn't using it to dodge attacks.

Knowing this, I close my eyes and focus myself in the room of darkness. But, it looks different. I don't know why, but it feels larger. I'm unable to see that it's larger, but there's some kind of feeling inside that doesn't feel as claustrophobic anymore.

Reaching out and grabbing a ton of darkness, I throw it around myself and as I open my eyes a darkness tsunami forms around me and washes up anything close by. But, it stops before hitting Scratchmore.

But, it did hit the leader. And, he has a massive hole in his chest. If his armour can't heal that, I've won.

As the armour slowly turns green again, I watch in anticipation. Will it heal the leader, or will it stop and leave him for dead...?
