67 the temple and the quests

as the portal closed and my sight adjusted to the shade of the room, I found myself gazing upon a large open space, a small pool in its center.

with curiosity I strode over to the pool, a system message hovering above it, its words clear, the purpose of the pool now known to me.

[you are much too strong to enter the well of rebirth, only pillars lacking most of their power may enter and experience its affects]

seems to me that this place was for pillars to heal, regain lost power, it would have been a shame had I learned of this place sooner, I may not have learned how to regain lost power entirely on my own.

this place is a crutch, were it to be destroyed, so too could the pillars, most of them at least, the non-universal ones anyway, not entirely of course, but mostly.

this might have just been the greatest find my vampires have ever brought to my attention, this could literally be my weapon against the pillars should they choose to intervene in my life again.

I've already shown I can drain them of their power should they hold darkness in their hearts, all I would need is to find them, what a lucky day indeed, not only did I take out my biggest annoyance, but I also found a way to severely weaken those who would see to interject in matters not their own.

light pov....

"we're here seeking the temple of rebirth, we need to stop a war."(Andrea) answered the vampire, her tone neutral, her demeanor blank, she was forcing herself not to give anything else away.

"you humans and your wars."(vampire) laughed, her tone way less serious than Andrea's.

"very well, no, my lord did not send me here, his first did, this forest has been a place of interest ever since the first became a vampire, we're here under his orders."(vampire) informed, true to her word.

"may we go forth?"(Andrea) asked, seeking permission.

"ye-"(vampire) began, only to be cut off by another as they rushed from the tree line, branches, roots, and rocks breaking as they moved.

"the lord has arrived!"(male vampire) exclaimed with pride as he quickly rushed into a kneel by the woman vampire's feet, her expression very quickly changing at the news.

"you may no longer go forth and seek your goal, you must now come with us, our lord would very much like to hear about this temple of rebirth and this war you speak of."(female vampire) ordered as she gestured for us to follow with a solitary finger.

a gesture I was made to follow, as Andrea and the hero both gave me the same look, "we can't beat them."

truly a mockery of God it was, able to make beings stronger than dragons, a feat like that shouldn't be possible, at least not for an ordinary pillar.

"the lord is NO ordinary pillar, mind your thoughts before I see fit to remove the source of the disrespect."(male vampire) spat at me, his eyes narrowed, somehow, he was able to read my mind, able to read the mind of a PILLAR, that shouldn't have been possible!

luckily though, before I could be yelled at again for my thoughts, Andrea stepped in.

"we apologize, she does not possess the ability to properly mind them, I will instruct her on this matter."(Andrea) quickly interjected, stopping the vampire from acting any further.

he slowly nodded his approval and thanks at Andrea before shooting a wary gaze at me as he retreated back into the woods the way he had came, leaving us with nothing to do but follow the vampire we had originally encountered.

minutes later.....

Andrea pov...

we had been led through thicker woods than we had expected, but all the same the route posed no trouble, not for me anyway, the hero bringing up the rear was struggling at this point, he may have levelled up quite a bit, but he was still only human, his stamina was finite.

that was the least of our worries though, as the direction we were heading was the sole direction needed to reach the temple, at this point I didn't know what to think, but one thing was certain, if Jake had already found the temple before us, there might be an actual chance we won't be able to use it.

the dark side of his was getting more and more unpredictable each day, I sometimes even struggled to tell if he was even still in there or not.

reincarnated hero pov...

we hadn't been walking twenty minutes and I had already gotten three quests, all of them equal in their unrelenting difficulty.

damn that pillar!

[stop the pillar of darkness from taking the well of rebirth, reward: new high level magic skill-reborn again, failure: near death of the magical pillars]

[survive the pillar of darkness: instant level up x150, failure: death]

[prevent (unknown) from killing the pillar of light and taking her place, reward: high level magic skill- light's champion, instant level up x20, failure: loss of light magic and denied access to realm of light]

I had just finished reading all three when I got another notification, I had failed one.

WHAT?!

ALREADY?!

C'MON!

[quest failed: stop the pillar of darkness from absorbing the well of rebirth]

[penalty being applied to future, the war will now end with the death of all magical pillars, only those of existence will remain]

[new quest]

[during the war, select a group of individuals to kill and replace the magical pillars, ensuring magic to remain in the world]

[no reward available, failure: the death of all mortal magic, humans will no longer possess the ability to wield elemental magic, the pillars of existence will become stronger and only those they choose will have magic]
