Matthew had been talking to the representatives of the troll village and the ogre villages and told them about his talk with the prince. 

Matthew made it clear that the human prince won't ever stop the human's advance into the forest since the prince was aiming for something in the deeper parts of the forest, something that he didn't know about. 

He had asked the demihumans around him about anything that might have caused the human prince and his army to go into the forest and antagonized all the demihumans that they met along the way, but even the demihumans were clueless about why the human prince would do it.
