Centipede Extermination 1

Ugh, I'm so bored.

Don't get me wrong I have things to do, my first quest being a huge weight on my back right now, but I'm just feeling kinda low you know? I haven't talked to anyone besides Jeremy since I got here, and the loneliness is starting to set in. It also doesn't help that Jeremy isn't much of a help to any conversation.

[...]

Ok, ok. I'm just playing. Don't my life any harder please!

*Sigh.*

I guess I should get this show on the road then huh. Alright Jeremy, give me a refresher really quick. What was my quest again?

[...]

[Quest: Centipede Extermination- Do to your slaughter of acid centipedes, you have garnered their hatred. Turn that hatred into fear.

Task one: Defeat 100 Acid Centiepdes above Level 8

Optional: Defeat Lesser Acid Centipede Overlord

Reward: ???]

Oh, yeah. More Acid Centipedes. You know, it's hard to get any drive to kill these guys, though one hundred will definitely get me pumping after a bit. This Lesser Acid Centipede Overlord though. What the hell is that? What would it look like? Can I defeat it? Will I get a better reward if I do?

[Completing optional parts of a quest will increase the player reward.]

Alright then. So now I have to kill it. It worries me though, I have no idea what it may have in store for me. Plus, the way I've seent the little long-legged freaks develop, it could be one of its lesser counterparts role. I definitely wouldn't want to fight a knight variant of a boss centipede. That will give me PTSD right there. Oh well, let's go find some centipedes, since they'll likely be my food for a bit. I think I remember there being a pretty decent tunnel near the entrance of this level, let's start there.

With my mind made up, I proceed to actually not dig this time, instead, I meander around from the very wall of the tunnel, keeping an eye out for any rogue monsters, especially centipedes.

Making a right into the big tunnel, I really begin to keep an eye out, I'm nearing one of the spots I know the centipedes' nest in, and I need to be wary of the lesser centipede overlord guy. I even move slower, albeit only slightly. Luckily, that possible threat is nowhere to be found and I quickly approach a side tunnel on the right.

Here it is, the veritable home base of the Acid Centipedes. Even from my vantage point several meters away, which I guess is actually closer than I should be, I can already see the daily goings-on of the Acid Centipedes. I smack my imaginary lips, this might actually be fun.

While I may be quite hungry, and these Acid Centipedes are pathetically weak, I can't afford to just rush in recklessly. Even if I discount the possibility of the Lesser Overlord, the sheer amount of centipedes milling around at the entrance of that tunnel is enough to scare me off. And none of them are weak, averaging just a little under my level, with some even reaching or even exceeding mine! Even if I have the confidence to beat creatures above my level, just the amount of little bugs is a huge put-off.

So we wait. I'm constantly observing the little guys, and even more the big guys, as they go about their daily business, none of them ever seeing my presence, thanks to a new skill I'm using more and more. Turns out that most of these monsters don't think anything of the void, and besides avoiding it none of them are ever concerned. All I have to do is shroud myself in a cloud of void particles and boom, stealth on the fly.

Alright, so it may seem like I'm wasting my time here, but I've obtained some valuable information about the Acid Centipedes' patrols or hunting party's or whatever. While most of the groups only stay out for around three hours at most, their stronger ones seem like they'll be out for way longer. Not only are they significantly stronger than the normal patrols, around my level, they also only consist of eight troops, a significant difference from the ten to twenty troop normal patrols.

How do I know? Well, I've obviously been keeping an eye on the tunnel entrance for a while now. I've even guessed which patrols are which, and haven't messed up yet. I'm also maybe a little overconfident against these guys, though that doesn't mean I won't use the utmost caution. I don't want to be heavily injured ever again, and these guys are around my level of strength. That being said, I'm confident my magic can take a toll on the main force of the patrol, and whatever my magic can't get my mouth and mandibles will.

YAWN!

All of this being said, I've been hovering around here for way too long. It's time for a quick nap, some R & R if you will, and then I have to get started. One hundred isn't a small number after all, and I still need to come up with a plan on how to find and defeat the lesser centipede overlord. I don't even know if I can beat one, though one hundred acid centipede corpses allow for a huge boost in strength. Alright, let's it's about nap time!
