Chapter 5 : Determination

*Flashback*

"Hey, Ren!"

A man pushed the door to my room as he yelled. The opened door was the only source of light coming into the otherwise dark room. I didn't turn to greet the man. Honestly I was exhausted from the recent events that had happened.

"Why the hell are you in the dark!?" He asked me as he pulled the drapes opened. As he did that the light from the moon illuminated the room. The first dark room was now completly illuminated. It hurt my eyes for some reason, I felt like a vampire trying to escape the light.

"Jake! Just leave me alone…. I want to be left alone." I said as I grabbed the bed sheets and wrapped myself trying to block out the light.

Seems perfect for someone like me.... Afterall 'I am the devil.'

"You still didn't tell me why you did that Mr Devil."

"Tell you what Jake?" I asked him sarcastically. I knew what he was talking about but I didn't want to talk about it.

'I did what I had to do.'

That's what I kept telling myself. But if there was another way I would have taken it. It was my way of justifying everything that I did after that day.

"Why did you let Joshua's platoon just get massacred like that!?" He yelled at me as he pulled the sheets from me. At hearing the name Joshua something in me just snapped.

"You made those promises, now what? Heck you can't even cry for a friend!" He was pissed off, I could feel that he held back the urge to punch me.

"Shut up Jake! What would you know!?" I lost my temper and punched Jake in the face. I was frustrated, every time I tried to protect someone it always ended like this.

'I had to do that!'

I.... Wanted to keep the losses to a minimum so I had no choice. I had no choice, no choice.

My head started to hurt because of this justification that I was doing.

"That hurt, you jerk." He said as he staggered back because of the impact. For some reason this idiot had a smile on his face.

"So, you are human." He said as he walked towards me and hugged me. It was the first time that I had seen Jake look like this. If I wasn't so frustrated, I would have reacted a little more.

"You know what they say tears are? It is the way that the eyes express themselves when words can't." He said as he patted my head while still hugging me.

Only once he said it, did I realise that I was actually crying.

Flashback end

"Then…. Why are you crying?"

What? Crying? Hearing her question I placed my hands on my cheeks. True enough they were moist.

"Oh this, I just got some dust in my eyes." I tried to reassure her as I tried giving her my best smile.

Why was I crying thinking about her?

I don't have the right.

After all…

It was my fault.

"Are you sure about that?" She asked again, still concerned. This lady was really a kind person, caring for someone like me.

"Yes, and thank you for asking." I thanked her. A warm and fuzzy feeling started welling up inside of me. This feeling I didn't think I'd feel it again, and definitely not from a stranger.

"Sorry for troubling you so much, and thank you. I should get going now." I waved my hand as I started walking in the direction of the barber. After reassuring herself she thanked me and started on her way again.

Crying, yeah I don't have that luxury right now. Not until I see people like her smiling and enjoying life instead of cowering in fear. And most definitely not until I can see Sylvia smiling like she used to.

This is my mission as someone that knows the future…. And as a cosmic.

Nothing else matters, I'll walk towards the ideal future that I want to see. Whoever comes in my way be it God or Celestial, I'll crush them.

Cause this is MY second chance.

"AND I'LL MAKE IT COUNT."

*Elsewhere*

"Davis, did you find the location of the next fragment of the key?" A crimson haired woman asked as she sat in front of a desk. The room where she was looked like an office of sorts.

It had red concert walls and had a polished wooden floor. In the room there was one desk behind which on both sides there was a bookshelf. Exactly behind the desk was a huge window which was currently covered. In front of the desk

The room was dark, the only source of light was from the laptop of a brown haired man. He wore glasses and a black suit. He was deadly pale like a vampire, he also had dark circles under his eyes.

"Chris, have some patience. The universe is huge; finding it would be one in a million or worse." He said in a rather irritated voice as he continued to type something on his laptop. After a few more seconds of typing he paused and a smile grew on his face.

"Never mind." He said as looked at the screen in bewilderment. Davis had just discovered something awesome. Something that could change everything we know about the universe.

The Key To Akasha.
