ADELPHUS POV:
62 YEARS AGO
"Congratulations it's a boy," a lady spoke with a tired expression as she took me out of my mother's womb.
"Aaw so cute...such beautiful eyes, you are going to make all the girls blush, Adelphus," a woman who seems to be my mother speaks.
'Oi! Oi! Is that the first thing you speak to your son?' I think as I observe the surrounding.
'Hmmm...this world doesnt seem to be much different from my previous world.'
60 YEARS AGO
I am 2 years old now,
"Aah damn it! I can't cultivate at all. There is not even ounc of 'Merital Energy' in this world at all. Looks like I need to find someother way of improving myself," getting annoyed I spoke to myself.
'Just what should I do?'
54 YEARS AGO
I turned 8 years old a few months back.
"My son is so smart, he should have at least 200 Mana and 300 Aura," speaks my mother with high expectations to my father who had his head held high with pride.
But reality could be disappointing.
Mana: 30
Aura: 45
Attributes: Water, Fire and wood.
"Next," tells the man who is measuring people's talent with an emotionless voice.
'It is above average but not heaven defying like some monsters in this world. Sigh looks like I can only work hard.'
My mother and father had their faces turned red slightly.
'Damn it!' I clench my fist as I look away.
Few tears escape my eyes.
I start running away to a desolated voice.

My parents search for me, but then...
"Haha...looks like we have money came walking towards us today," a man spoke as he walked towards my father.
There were 12 or so bandits.
...
"Aaaaa..." I heard someone shouting.
I ran closer to the voice only to find my father dead and my mother almost dying.
The bandits haven't noticed me.
My body goes numb. My heart sinks.
My brain stops for a second.
Anger takes over.
I run towards the man taking out the safety knife which I always carry.
Running towards the man I stab him in his cervical spine resulting in instant death.
[Ding!]
[Host fulfilled the condition to activate the Champion's System]
[Emergency Quest]
[Kill the bandits and take revenge for your parents]
[Increasing the power of host x10]
'Huh?'
'You gotta be kidding me? If this was the condition, then why had I always avoided killing? If it was only going to result in my parents' death, then why? Just why?'
I close my eyes, tears were coming from the corner of my eyes.
I open my eyes and look around to see the bandits.
"Don't think it would be an easy death," I speak to them in a cold voice.
OVER THE NEXT 10YEARS
'Hey system, aren't you like kidnapped somewhere and I can come to save you?'
[Host, don't joke about it]
...
'Hey, system what's your name?'
...
'Hey, system are you a female or male?'
...
'Hey system I am strong about to take over a Sin Devil right now, aren't I?'
[Host is almost strong enough to defeat a sin devil]
'Can you at least call me by my name?'
[Adolphus]
'Huh?'

[Hey Adolphus, can you not risk your life everytime? You have a grand mission to fullfil]
'But I can't let anyone else become an orphan like me, I mean I tried becoming bad, but somehow it didn't work for me,'

'Aren't you still gonna tell me your name?'
[It's Glacia, you happy now?]
'Wow! You are a female? Where are you, I'm coming to save you.'
[Yes, I am a female and you can't save me Adelphus. Even if you become the strongest in this world, you can't save me. It's not in your fate.]
'But at least I can try. I promise I will save you. Wait for me Okay? Please! Please!'
[Okay! Okay Adelphus, I will wait! Now stop making that face.]

'So how come you are captured? Are you human or are you some other species or are you just an artificial intelligence? Not that I mind.'
[That's something I can't tell. I am bound by restrictions.]

A man comes in front of me suddenly.
"So you are his champion, huh? Well, no matter let me take something that shouldn't belong to a human."
He proceeds to touch me.
[Adelphus run, he isn't someone you can handle. He is Zitherer. He is an agent of the above society. You can't defeat him. Run!]
I try to jump but...I can't move my body...Damn it! Move! Body move!
He touches me.
[Warning! Warning! Warning!]
[System is being forcefully extracted]
[Warning! Warning! Warning!]
[System is being forcefully extracted]
I soon lose consciousness.
When I wake up I find my body at the same place where I last was.
'Glacia, you there?'
'Glacia?!'
" GLACIA?"
"This isn't time for a joke Glacia, please answer me, f***ing please answer me,"
"GLACIAAA.."
'I will save you Glacia, just you wait.'
34YEARS AGO.
"Haha you just messed with the wrong guy," a man speaks as he smirks at me, "why did you butt in my business? Whether I kill this bitch or play with her, what's it got to do you? Just because you knew her for a few weeks? Or maybe you think you are strong? Well, whatever the case be, this will be your demise."
He takes out his sword.
'I can't...I can't die yet. Not yet, I still have to save Glacia,' my eyes are wide open.
Suddenly I hear a voice,' will you give your soul in exchange for power?'
Somehow...somehow...I ended up saying,
"Yes, I will."
Maybe I was desperate or maybe I was scared. Whatever the case be, I was finally trapped by him.
"That completes the pact," a devil comes out of hiding, he looks at the other man," your work is done leave now."
"Yes, Lord Ladros," he speaks and leaves.
"Welcome to the world of Greed, Adelphus," he speaks with a wide grin on his face.
...
"Adelphus, kill his parents."
He asked me to kill innocents, just for amusement.
...
"Adelphus, kill this girl in the worst possible way. I wanna see your worst possible imagination."
He made me do things, that I disgust the most.

And he kept asking me to do that every now and then.

...
...
PRESENT TIME:
'[Water Domain: Silent Lake]' I activate my domain.
It's not much but it should give me slight leverage in this fight.
'[Aura arts:Hyperextension of Fascicles]' activating my Aura art, I channel fire mana into my body.
'[Exoskeleton: Chrysalis]' I buff my defence.
Then I dash towards Karina.
'At least I can take her out first,'
I look at her smiling at me,
"[Domain of Ice Queen: Glacial Waltz]" she unlocks her domain, freezing all the water I created.
'But it's fine, isn't it,' I sigh as I look at her.
"[Neglect speech: Inversion]" I reverse the process creating water all over again.
She looks at me with perplexed eyes.
Then she jumps towards me with her spear pointing towards me.
'[Eyes of Mana][Blessing of the world]'
I buff myself again.
"[World of Threads]" I hear Zwain chanting his magic.
Threads surround us.
-clash.
My fist and her spear connect and a strong shockwave comes out of the collision.
'My fist hurts like hell, does she have another attribute in her spear? Or is it Zwain?' I mumble as I look at Karina.
I try my best to keep hitting her, but she dodges swiftly and counters attacks.
I try my best to dodge Zwains' attack but they get through every damn time.
10..100...how many exchanges did we have?
'I need something else, here.'
I jump back and start chanting,
'[Combination magic: Burning Wood]' I chant the unique magic that I got from Glacia.
'This is the only other thing that has a slight possibility of working.'
A fire forest starts forming around us but half of them...no... most of them are cut down by the threads created by Zwain.
I take out the Ethereal sword I got from Glacia and prepare for a slash as I move to Karina.
Zwain cuts my hands making me drop my sword.
He then uses his threads to break the sword into pieces.
'Haah...haah...' A tinge of anger and sadness comes into my eyes.
A light surrounds me and heals my fists.
'Arlington, huh? I was worried for a second when he wasn't doing anything. Still, why isn't he buffing me, yet?'
I turn at Karina who is slashing the woods in her path as she is walking towards me.
'[Blink]' I blink a few metres away to catch my breath.
But.
I feel weak.
My stomach hurts.
"Cough...cough.." I vomit out the blood as I fall down on my knees.
Looking down on my stomach, I find a sharp cut starting to form there.
'Zwain, just when?'
'This is getting nowhere'
"Haah...[Life Sacrifice: Blood of Steam]" I use my final trump card.
My blood starts oozing out of my skin.
My skin burns then the blood evaporates.
If I am to give a close analogy, I might be like a hot burning tree...slowly withering away.
My energy starts overflowing and the surroundings start melting.
"If this doesn't work, then I might really die. Haha...didn't think I would end up in this pathetic state someday...Let's end this, shall we?" I mutter out nonsense as I try to grasp my final straw of hope.
I guess, even if I survive, in the state that I will end up, I won't be able to do anything else.
"Yaaaa..." I run wildly towards Karina.
Karina is making a slight nervous expression.
But Zwain comes in between us.
'Haah...At least let me defeat a Royal Mage before I die,'
I mumble out of desperation
I already knew what would play next.
The moment Zwain entered the battle, it was already over... Maybe I had a false hope that I could defeat Karina and escape but guess it was a foolish dream of mine.
Because of the vow, I guess I can never escape this fate of mine.
'Ladros...I hope you burn in hell.'
Arlington doesn't seem to support me. If I am not wrong then he might be planning to kill me and take my life force.
I see Zwain spreading out his threads toward me.
Suddenly, I feel a stab behind my back.
'Arlington made his move, huh?'
Karina is looking at me with disdain.
'Is this how it ends?'
I close my eyes as flashbacks of my life come before my eyes.
'Father...Mother...'
'Glacia, I am sorry, looks like I...'
[Ding!]

Authors Thought:
This is divided into 2 parts:
1. My thoughts on why I included the system.
2. A few questions n answers that might clear a few misunderstandings.
Honestly, I didn't want to put a system in this novel. What I was looking for, was something similar to the system that could be incorporated into this World. But after racking my brain for a month, I still couldn't find a good alternative, so I had to put it here. And just to be clear, I teased System here and will tease again in the future but the main System part and its backstory of why the system exists n all will be explained in the 6th Volume.
Question-Answer.
Q. Will the MC have a system?
A. No, I am not going to bind him with anything whatsoever.
Q. Will System become a main part of the novel?
A. In the 6th Volume it will be important, but neither before that nor after that.
Q. Does everyone has a system in this world?
A. No, only a few selected people get the system. That too is extremely rare. (like 4 or 5 people in the whole world[rough estimation, don't take it for granted])
Q. Even after getting the system for 10 years, why did Adolphus seem so weak?
A. System in this world is not overpowered. But it does help you grow much faster than others. Other than that, it depends on the person itself whether he could maximize the potential of the system or not. (Though it is not a completely broken cheat)

P.S. For those who are complete newbies to System. Just think of it as a gaming interface that helps you increase your stats and abilities manually. It also helps you grow faster n all. Those types of novels are the trend these days.
