Prologue

Breathing out a satisfied sigh, I closed my phone, slipping it into my pocket, and cast a glance beyond the airplane window beside me.

"That was a good light novel..." My whisper carried a hint of a smile, memories of "Reincarnated as a Slime" dancing vividly in my mind.

It was, in no exaggeration, a great novel to say so the least. The Main character, the cast, and the action packed scenes all made a compelling story that kept me entertained for the past month since I've picked it up.

That said, it wasn't perfect either, but who was I to even judge it.

"I really don't get why Rimuru was so passive sometimes, well he was an old man so that's probably the reason." I nodded to myself in reassurance, ignoring the pointed stares I was receiving from the people sitting next to me.

They probably can't understand me in the first place.

I shrugged and picked up my journal that I kept in the small compartment in front of me, writing some notes and things that I'd have changed or done if I was in the place or Rimuru.

Random things such as focusing on gathering power, though it would have probably caught Guy's attention if that were to happen.

Or perhaps creating more skills using the great sage, it probably didn't have any limit as long as it had ways to gather information or take inspiration from.

"Maybe Shizu could have survived..." I whispered to myself and frowned at the memory of Shizu's death, a beautiful moment that was expertly executed for sure but one that I wasn't fond of.

"Maybe Rimuru could have made a soul corridor with her before Ifrit won against her... but maybe that's impossible too, he didn't even know about Ifrit."

Dissatisfaction and sadness filled me but I shook them off, reminding myself that it was silly to let my emotions get the better of me over a fictional world.

"But it's a damn good one, man I wish I can take his place." I laughed to myself and closed my notebook shut, keeping it at the pocket of shirt before collecting my luggage as the plane starts its descent.

The pristine, clean floors.

The beautiful, welcoming smiles of the attendants that waited for us the moment we got off the plane.

The fresh, crisp air of winter accompanied by beautiful snowflakes slowly descending from the clouds above.

"Ah... Japan, finally, my dream of coming here has been realized." I smiled to myself and walked down the sidewalk, joining the crowd of Japanese people minding their own world without a care in the world.

The bright city lights, the cleanliness and the wonder of Japan's streets, the weird vending machines that was scattered everywhere, even the armed man running towards me at a frightening pace.

Everything was just as I had imagined it would be.

...

.....

Wait a minute

I took in a sharp breath of air as I tried to jump out of the clearly psychopathic man to no avail, I was too late to even move.

Agonizing pain coursed through my abdomen. I instinctively pressed my hands against the searing spot, staring in disbelief at the crimson stains smearing my skin.

My gaze fell to my side, where my luggage had been, now replaced by a chilling pool of blood seeping into the snow underfoot.

"Damn... what... are the odds." I breathed out and soon found myself kneeling before collapsing helplessly on the floor.

I could hear the distinct, muddled out screams of people around me. But I couldn't see, hear, or feel anything.

Before I could continue down that train of thought, however, I fell asleep.

Weird how death's nowhere near as lonely as I thought it'd be.

That was the last thought I had on the mortal plane.
