2 Leaving Party

"I see you got rid of the staff?" Judeau whispered.

Glenn nodded his head before he said, "Let's just say, I just put it away."

Before Judeau could respond, the crowd started clamoring about Griffith's return.

Glenn turned his head to see the white-haired Bishonen walk over towards Guts and the rest of the group.

"I'm glad to see you two are alright," Griffith called out with a smile as he looked over Guts and Casca.

"Sir, I was out of line and should be punished for what I did. I went out to battle while..." Before Casca could finish speaking, Guts slapped her ass, making her yelp and jump into Griffith's arms.

She glared at Guts before realizing the situation she was in and quickly hopped down, removing herself from Griffith's hold.

The crowd jeered and joked while Griffith smiled at them joyfully.

"This guy is going to be 'the' demon king? Even knowing what I know, I still can't picture such a soft looking fellow being a God Hand Member." Glenn thought as he watched Griffith interact with his band members.

"No, he couldn't become a demon king unless they meant this much to him. What should I do? I could change the plot, but I'm pretty sure that the God Hand would find out and view me as an anomaly to be extinguished. They wouldn't want me interfering with their precious causality."

While Glenn was lost in thought, Griffith turned to see the new face and said, "Judeau, who is this?"

"Oh, this guy? He's a map-maker, and he helped Casca fight off some soldiers. He's a pretty good fella," Judeau answered.

"What's a topographer doing all of the way out here?" Griffith questioned with a puzzled expression.

Judeau took the time to explain the situation, and Glenn showed his map as proof.

While Griffith studied the World Map, he asked several questions, "What parchment is this made of? Why are these land pieces colored differently? What are these symbols? Why is there an exact copy of the encampment?"

"The parchment is made from wood fibers. The different colors represent height and depth. The symbols are for categorizing lakes, pathways, rivers, herbs, ores, and edible plants. As for the reason this encampment is drawn, I was bored," Glenn answered back.

"Would you like to become a member of the Band of the Hawk?" Griffith said while making everyone gasp.

"Um, why?" Glenn asked, honestly confused by the situation.

"It's simple really; because I desire your talents. Making maps of the terrain, marking enemy forces and defensive structures, and to such detail that it makes me in awe of your talent. I find your abilities quite useful," Griffith explained.

"Would I need to fight?" Glenn asked. He didn't know if his interference would alter the outcome of certain events.

However, he figured if he could remain unnoticed until Guts leaves the Band of the Hawk, Glenn could avoid the God Hand.

"No, I just need you to join the scouting team. I can't promise you'll never be involved in combat, but my men will do their best to protect you," Griffith responded.

Honestly, it was a good deal. Glenn could hide in the background and stay out of the events that shape Guts into the warrior that he needed to be to survive the coming dark ages.

The biggest issue will be after Guts leaves. Glenn could probably heal Griffith, but the repercussions could be messing with this world's God, the very Idea of Evil, and call him crazy, but he was sure that he didn't stand a chance against a freaking God that controls causality.

Strong as Glenn was, he was more than sure he couldn't handle any of the God Hand members, much less the Evil God of the Berserk Universe. Heck to beat boss level demons like them, he'd need a whole team of players or be max level.

"For now, I'll accept Griffith's invitation. When the time comes, I'll make the decision. Besides, I still need to understand the changes to my magic," Glenn thought to himself while making an expression of contemplation.

"How much will I get paid?" Glenn announced as he rubbed his thumb and index finger together.

Griffith and the rest of the Band of the Hawk all started laughing.

"Griffith pays better than any of the Nobles." A random band member shouted.

"You get a monthly wage of three large gold coins," Griffith explained as he threw out a bag for Glenn to catch.

Inside were three three-pound coins that could be exchanged for a hundred small gold coins. The three coins could be sold for 200,000 dollars in the real world, so Glenn knew he was getting the deal of the lifetime.

Glenn took out the coins and bit one before nodding his head. Then, holding out his hand, Glenn smiled while saying, "We have a deal."

Griffith smiled and shook Glenn's hand. The Band of the Hawk gained a valuable member that night. With Glenn's map, they were able to sweep up the rest of the invading Doldrey forces without sustaining any losses.

With accurate information on enemy formations and encampments, Griffith was able to come up with some truly-frightening strategies, so it didn't take them long to plan out the attack on Doldrey's fortress.

Even with Glenn's existence being a factor, the timeline flowed similarly to the story's canon. The only difference was the main cast now had an additional friend. As much as he hated the idea of damning the Band of the Hawk, Glenn feared more for his own life.

Glenn needed to go unnoticed from the God Hand's machinations. To do that, he had no choice but to let time flow as it should. He needed more power and better understanding of his abilities if he were to actually be of help, but most of all, he needed more time.

As expected, the battle of Doldrey was a successful campaign. Guts killed the enemy general Bascon with the aid of Zodd's greatsword, Casca infiltrated the fortress to raise the flags of victory, and just like that, Griffith's forces overran the entire army, ending the hundred year war.

Griffith and the rest were awarded for their service to their country. They were all dressed up for the ball when it came time for the King to announce their victory over Doldrey.

Glenn was wearing a very nice blue suit with gold trim, white pants, and knee high black boots fit for the era. When he came in, he stayed in the background, enjoyed some of the food and drink while watching the girls gathering around Guts and the other members of the Hawks.

Guts showed an annoyed expression while Corcus gave a jealous glare. Glenn chuckled at the spectacle before he saw a few Nobel women approach him. Glenn lifted a brow as they crowded around him and began asking many questions.

"Where are you from?"

"When did you join the Band of the Hawk?"

"Now that you're nobles, what do you have planned for the future?"

"So, handsome, are you single?"

"Maybe looking for a wife?"

Glenn's eyebrow twitched when he felt one of their breasts cling to his arm. Shaking her off, Glenn smiled at the ladies before saying, "Pardon me. But I already have a wife."

The girls looked shocked and then pouted as they dispersed. Glenn put his plate of food down and walked outside and looked out over the terrace to see Midland's city in the distance.

Glenn heard them clamoring about when he noticed the 100 man slayer walking towards him.

"Glenn?" Casca called out in surprise.

"Too crowded for you guys?" Glenn asked.

"Not my scene. Why are you out here? Shouldn't you be enjoying the party? You had an awful lot of women giving you looks."

"Hmph, I prefer the wilderness. To be honest, people like these nobles who gather around to pat themselves on the back for accomplishments that aren't even their own sicken me. If I could, I'd wipe out every last king and noble to end the monarchy."

Casca frowned as she said, "Then who would rule?"

"It goes to whomever is most worthy," Glenn replied with a smirk.

"And who would choose who is worthy?" Casca followed up.

"The citizens, obviously," Glenn chuckled.

"Wouldn't that cause problems if they elected a foolish leader because they are uneducated?" Guts asked.

"Then educate the masses, all the Bull Shit they spend our taxes on could be rerouted to take care of their health, education, and infrastructure," Glenn chuckled as he waved his hand behind his head and walked back inside.

"What a strange fellow," Casca said as she watched him head back over to the food table.

Glenn enjoyed himself until Griffith showed up. He then watched as Guts sent Casca back inside while he left the building to go back to the barracks.

He knew what was about to happen, and didn't care to get involved. Glenn sat on his bed and practiced his magic while Griffith drank poisoned wine, faking his death to kill the Queen of Midland and everyone else she conspired with to take the White Hawk's head.

Glenn got up the next day to hear that the Queen had died in a fire and a month of mourning would begin. Throughout most of the troubles, Glenn stayed locked in his windowless room, experimenting with his magic and items he brought over from the game world.

Before he knew it, winter had come and castle removed the black flags, signaling the end of the mourning period.

"So, tomorrow is the day," Glenn thought as he walked through the market on a snowy afternoon. He knew that this is when Guts was preparing to leave the Hawk and go on his journey.

Glenn prepared some gifts and snuck around the barracks and left some items for the captains of the White Phoenix Knights.

While leaving a note and some gifts in Casca's room, he looked outside to see her talking with Guts.

"I guess it's time to go," Glenn hummed as he went outside and caught up with the 100 Man Slayer.

"Hey, heading out?" Glenn loudly announced his presence.

"Glenn?" Casca looked over in surprise.

"What are you doing out here?" Guts questioned.

"Oh, I'm leaving Midland. You going on a trip?" Glenn replied with a question of his own.

"Something like that," Guts shook his head and kept walking.

"You're leaving the band of the Hawk too?" Casca frowned.

"Yeah, it's been fun, but it's time for me to leave," Glenn smirked as he nodded his head.

"Why?" Casca asked with a dispirited expression.

"I can't be buried in his dream anymore," Guts simply replied.

"I…I hope things work out for you and Griffith. So, why are you leaving, Glenn?" Guts asked to change the subject.

"It's normal for me to leave. I only joined because there was coin to be made. Now that the war is over, the band no longer has need of my abilities. But you've been with them since the beginning. Why leave now? What do you mean by being buried in his dream? Whose dream?"

Before he could answer, Guts spotted Corkus and Judeau standing a few dozen feet away.

"Hey, out for a nice walk?" Judeau called out.

"Hmm…" Guts nodded his head.

"Come with us for a minute, let's find a place to talk," Judeau pointed his thumb towards a bar.

"Mind if I join? I figured I'll travel with Guts until we make it to another town. It's a thousand times safer traveling with the hundred man slayer than some random troupe," the Crimson Warlock chuckled.

"Are you planning on mooching off me?" Guts lifted a brow.

"I just want to take advantage of the situation is all," Glenn shrugged his shoulders.

"You too, Glenn?" Judeau asked with a look of surprise.

"Yep," Glenn smiled as he walked with the group of war heroes.
