night before halloween

(authors note: yall the 1st chapter is tedious im sorry for that but it will be exhilarating in further chapters i guarantee)

Twas 30th october. The night before halloween. Clouds were dark and gloomy, covering the night sky with a galaxy of stars, the kind you wouldn't see everyday. A slight breeze blew across a girl's face. This girl, not so common as the others, had naturally raven black hair cut to the length of her shoulders, bangs all over her forehead and castleton green eyes. Her slim body was clothed in a neon yellow tank top with black cargos. A loose belt round her waist completed her outfit. She had silver hoops in her ears that shone quite alot through her black hair. Everyone called her Erza or Ez.

"Mmmmmmhhmm" she said, taking out the chocolate fudge brownies from the oven. She wasnt quite like the others really. She spent mischief nights different than most people.

She enjoyed baking brownies around this time of the year. "Akeno!!!!!" she screamed. "Will you watch the brownies for me while I set the tv?"

Akeno, also known as AK, was her younger sister who she was very close to. They did almost everything together. Akeno looked alot like Erza, only, she had a bluer tone of coloured eyes and her hair was a shade of dark brown. Akeno was three years younger than Erza. Erza was a senior in her high school.

"Wait Ez, i have to finish this last bit of homework. Give me 5 mins please."

A while later they were sitting in the living room watching a movie, when they heard three knocks down the hall. No one else was in the house at the moment, for their mom died when Ez was 6 and their dad was an alcoholic who came home very late every night.

"Its probably the wind, dont bother checking." Ez said. "It happened last week and i looked it through. No ones there, dont worry."

"Alright then." responded AK.

A bit of silence. More silence. Now all they could hear was the movie.

"Screeechhhh" came a sound so suddenly, it felt like a tree branch scratching against a well painted car. "Whatever could that be, Ez?" "Its not just the wind, anymore."

"Yes, i can tell. Okay, if you want to check it out, ill come with." replied Ez.

They walked down the hall patiently, for if they were in a hurry, they would make a noise, which would give them away. "Scrrrreeeeechhh" came the noise again, longer this time. "I've never heard of such a screeching noise before. I really do wonder what it could be, Erza. What if someone is outside?"

"We're going to find out. Just follow me."

"Riiiinnnnngggg" the telephone rang.

"AAAAAHH"

Akeno had never screamed so loud before. Over a ringing phone even. Ez quickly covered up AK's mouth before she could scream any longer. "Its just the telephone, AK, dont sweat it."

"Hi, this is Erza Xiaoyu speaking. May i know who this is?"

"scrrreeeeeecchhhhhhhh" even longer this time. "Ez? Is that coming from the telephone?" "I dont really know." said Ez.

"HAHAHHAHAH"

"scrreeeecchhhhh"

"thud."

"Erm, Erza??"

"Ez."

"Ez??"

Erza was standing there, telephone to her ear. Listening. Just listening. Why wouldnt she respond, thought Akeno.

Just then, Ez got back to her senses, only she looked pale. Her hand felt numb and she could barely breathe. Whatever could be the matter with her. "Had someone speaking to her on the telephone said something inappropriate?" "Did they threaten her?" thought AK constantly. She didnt want to stand there looking at Ez traumatized like that.

Erza kept the phone back in the reciever and began walking towards the house door. She walked slowly. Very slowly. Her face was intensely staring towards the door. Where she was heading. But something wasnt right about her, just then. Akeno decided to follow her, but in a distance, for she was scared Ez was not behaving normally.

"Ding dong" the bell rang. This scared AK even more. "Ez, dont open the door, please.You dont look okay." But Ez continued to make her way towards the door. Faster now, since the doorbell had just rung. Akeno tried stopping her as much as she could, but it just made Erza get aggressive.

Ez stopped abruptly. She stopped right infront of the very door she was headed to. "Ding donggg" rang the bell a second time. AK was nearly in tears. This was too much for her to handle. Erza didnt move at all. She just stood there, motionless. "If she was headed to the door, why did she stop?" thought AK.

"Ez. Open the door if you want to. Ill be okay, i promise. Just dont stand like that please, it scares me. Atleast turn around Erza. I want to know if you're okay."

Yet again, Erza did not move. Not at all.

AK stood there too, now motionless herself, for she was obviously traumatized after seeing her sister in such a confusing condition.

Instantaneously, Ez turned around.

There was a distance of three meters between Ez and AK which Erza decided to cover within two seconds of quick speed. Little did AK know, a penknife was in Erza's hand, ready to be used.
