4 Becoming a Monster (2)

The color on Adrienne's face drained. How could they be this evil?! They knew how desperate she was to keep her mother alive, but they orchestrated everything until the end.

How could Cayden do this to her mother? If anything, her mother had raised him like her own and provided everything for him growing up. If anything, her mother had given him more attention than she did her.

And her father? His family's legacy and company would have been long gone if it weren't for her mother. He'd be nothing without her. He should have been grateful, but he'd ultimately chosen to betray her.

Adrienne's emotions overwhelmed her. Her tears were now tinged with blood. It was a horrific sight, but neither Cayden nor Elise were bothered by the sight.

She needed not ask if her father was involved. Though he wasn't here, the mere fact that he allowed his mistress and his children to get rid of her proved that he wasn't oblivious to it. How could he do this to her, his daughter?

Why, of course. Now that his first wife was dead, the only thing that remained was her. If others discovered that Cayden wasn't her mother's son, his inheritance would be questioned. However, it would be a different matter if Adrienne died as well.

Adrienne continued to cough blood, and she started laughing maniacally, catching the three off guard. They wondered if she had lost her mind, but it didn't matter. She so wanted them to go down with her. She wanted them to experience the hell she'd been through, but above all, she wanted to retrieve what they took away from her mother.

Alas, Adrienne could only curse them repeatedly in her heart with her current state. No one could save her now, not that she wanted to be saved. She no longer had any reason to live now that she was about to lose everything.

"Is my elder sister upset that Dad isn't able to send you away?" Elise continued. "Don't worry, someone dear is ready to accompany you in the afterlife besides your mother and best friend."

Two unidentified men then came, dragging a familiar young boy with them as if on cue. If Adrienne thought things couldn't get any worse, she was gravely mistaken. They threw the young boy in the backseat harshly.

'D-Dylan?!' Adrienne gasped painfully, not believing what she saw in the dashboard mirror. This couldn't be happening!

Because Myrtle had died so soon after giving birth to Dylan, the young boy was left in Alistair's care. However, he didn't care about his nephew at all. Hence, Adrienne took on the role of his foster mother. She took care of him, showering him with the love and attention she knew her best friend would give to her son.

However, the young boy hadn't been in good health from the moment he was born. His heart was weak, and his constitution wasn't good, especially during the colder season. It also didn't help that Alistair viewed the boy as an obstacle between him and Adrienne. He was her husband, yet she had chosen the young boy over him, and Alistair was infuriated by it.

Three months ago, Dylan fell sick, forcing Adrienne to beg Alistair to bring the boy to the hospital for treatment. However, the favor came with a great price, and Adrienne had to pay it with her body. As to how Camilla got her hands on the young boy, Adrienne had no idea.

Dylan was gasping for breath, looking pale and sick. His skin was covered with sweat despite the cold weather outside.

"Mom… I want to go home. Mom… Where are you….? It's so cold here, Mom." The boy mumbled, groaning in pain behind Adrienne.

Adrienne shut her eyes and listened to her adopted son's pleas. Knowing that she had also failed to protect this innocent child broke her heart. Her entire body trembled, not from the coldness of the night but because everything she had ever known came crashing down on her. She had lost everything, and she could do nothing about it.

The expression on her face changed, morphing into a likeness of a vengeful spirit, and her eyes flashed with fury. Cayden backed away from the car, and a trickle of sweat ran down the side of his face. He tried to shrug off the ominous feeling he was getting from his foolish sister.

"It's time for you to leave, Addie." He said with a smug look. "Now that your mother has died and Myrtle is also rotting in her grave, you should reunite with them in the afterlife sooner. You should be thankful we're letting you off easily."

Cayden pulled something from the pocket of his trench coat and pressed a button. He still looked terrified. The car Adrienne and Dylan started to move forward, going straight to the edge of the cliff. It tumbled a few times on the rough side of the cliff before fell forward, straight on the snow-covered ground.

When Adrienne cracked her eye open, the windshield and the windows were shattered, and she glimpsed at the dashboard to see the unfortunate child who was forced to accompany her in this tragedy.

Blood was trickling nonstop from Dylan's head. A heart-wrenching pain shot through her. Adrienne was badly injured herself, but her heart shattered into a million pieces seeing the child's condition.

'Forgive me, Myrtle. I failed to protect Dylan. I should have listened to you. You were right, after all.'

The scent of gasoline reached her nose, and a fire suddenly broke out, consuming the wreckage of the car. She would lose everything tonight, but it didn't matter. Everything she held dearly in her heart had already perished and she'd become a laughing stock until the end.

Adrienne lay on her side, tears continued to spill from her eyes. She imprinted this memory and those people who led her to ruins in her heart. If she were given a chance to live again, she would do everything to deliver them to eternal damnation. She wouldn't mind becoming a monster if that was what it took to defeat one!
