First day at High School

Dingaling~ Dingaling~ Dingaling~

The next morning, Raven was jolted awake by the shrill sound of his alarm.

He groggily fumbled for his phone, the sound of its ringing grating on his tired ears, and silenced it before rubbing his eyes to ward off sleep.

He tried to ignore the heavy thoughts that had kept him up all night and the newfound knowledge of his adoption, and he forced himself to continue with his routine.

With an effort, Raven dragged himself out of bed and stumbled through his morning routine, slipping into his clothes and retrieving his blue striped backpack from the dusty closet.

As he made his way downstairs, the scent of waffles and bacon wafted up to meet him, and he could see his mother, sister, and brother already seated around the breakfast table.

"Morning, Raven," his mother greeted him with a smile. "Ready for your first year of high school?"

With a subtle nod, Raven forced a half-hearted smile onto his face.

He tried to ignore the nagging questions about his identity, but they still clung to the forefront of his mind.

While his mother and brother exchanged the occasional brief comment, the rest of breakfast was enveloped in a peaceful, quiet silence.

Raven is seven years younger than his brother, Will. He was the only one in the family with the means to attend a university, and the family was proud of him for his accomplishment.

Raven didn't talk to him much. The two had two completely different beliefs and customs, which made it hard to have a harmonious relationship.

It came to light that Raven was a mathematical genius, much smarter than anyone else.

In grade 11, he attended 8 classes and achieved a 95, while most of the class averaged a 54.

But Raven didn't enjoy maths and went down the path of writing, which disappointed his parents.

As Raven finished his meal, he grabbed his bag, feeling the weight of it in his hands as he headed towards the door.

His sister, Mia, also followed along.

"Hey! Wait for me!" She said, hurdling her way over.

Raven stopped and looked over his shoulder at his older sister, his mouth lifting slightly into a faint smile.

Despite the weight on his mind, Mia's delightful energy always brought a hint of positivity to his day.

"Come on, let's not delay any longer and get to school."

Mia grinned, her eyes filled with excitement. "Definitely! I can't wait to explore all the clubs and join the soccer team!"

"The clubs," Raven muttered.

He remembers the excited chatter about some of the wacky clubs people would make.

It was always a great time.

There was once a hentai club made in the school, and that was the talk of the month, but one club had three girls sexually assaulted, and one even committed suicide.

A year had passed since this occurrence, and it painted an accurate picture of how the school mishandled its clubs.

No, you can't even say that they manage the clubs.

"What are you thinking, Raven?" Mia asked, seeing that he kept quiet after mentioning the clubs.

"Nothing, I just hope you don't join any of the clubs." Raven said, stretching out two fingers and knocking it onto her forehead.

Mia's cheeks turned a deep shade of pink as she tried to brush his fingers away.

"Don't worry, I know about the horrors, but I'm still signing up for the soccer team."

Raven nodded, but he still felt a knot of anxiety in the pit of his stomach. "You can come to me if you need any help."

Mia stopped and stared at Raven, her brow furrowed in confusion. "Shouldn't I be the one saying that? Also, what's with you? You're normally not so caring."

Hearing this, Raven felt his body go still, his breath catching in his throat.

He guessed it was because it was from the rebirth that made him treat her like a younger sister.

He gazed into her wide, inquisitive eyes, feeling tongue-tied.

He put his hand on her head and rubbed it around, messing up her hair.

"Hey what are you doing?" Mia questioned, running away as she attempted to brush her hair back, yet the wind blew her hair in her face, causing her to grind her teeth in anger.

Raven couldn't help but let out his first laugh since his rebirth, when he saw her innocent and childish appearance.

"Hey! What are you laughing at, bastard!" Mia shouted, and put her arms around his neck.

An old couple who were walking by looked at the two and sighed. "Isn't good to be young."

30 minutes of bickering later, they had reached the side entrance of the school.

"Hey there niner," Mia said, putting her arm around Raven. "We're officially at school, so if you don't listen to me, I'll beat you up." Mia waved her fist in front of Raven.

Raven raised an eyebrow and looked at her playfully. "Such a small fist is supposed to intimidate me?"

Mia snorted and moved her hand away from his face. "Follow me. I'll take you to your classes."

Raven gave a slight nod of his head.

He already had his classes mapped out, but the warmth in her eyes made him unable to deny her request.

After a peaceful ten-minute walk around the school, they parted ways with a gentle hug.

"Call me if you get lost, niner!" Mia said as she sprinted away.

Raven watched her until she was out of sight, then trudged into his homeroom.

He settled himself between his two friends, Lucas and Hunter, feeling the bumpy chair beneath him.

The class he has now is communication technology. Well, it should have been, but the teacher here did not understand communication technology, leading the class to be a photography class instead.

Raven was still bitter about his two friends using his work and ending up with a higher mark than him at the end of the year.

That really pissed him off for a while.

Raven doesn't intend to remain in the regular class for long, and is eager to transfer to the more advanced classes the school offers to its academically inclined students.

Heaving a sigh, he stood from his seat, ignoring his friends' murmurs, and walked out of the classroom.

He walked down the halls, hearing the echoing sound of his shoes against the tile, until he reached a door that had "Guidance" labelled on it.

He opened the door and saw an elderly female teacher perched in the centre of a round desk.

"Hello, how may I help?" The teacher asked.

"Yeah, hi, I'd like to change my times table please." Raven said.

"Sure, follow me." She said to Raven, leading him into one of the side rooms with a computer.

"Name and year." She turns to Raven and asks.

"First, Raven, Last, Morningstar; year, first."

"Oh, that's a cool last name."

"Yeah, but not a friendly name."

While he made adjustments to his class schedule, the two of them chatted and laughed.

He grabbed his new times table, gave a quick nod of thanks, and hurried away.

"What an interesting kid." The woman chuckled.

One of the teachers looked at her with confusion. "I've never heard you compliment a student before. What's got into you, Grey?"

Grey glanced over at the teacher lightly. "A grade nine student on day one changed all of his classes to the enriched classes. It's rare to even see a grade nine student on the first day here, especially one that changed all of his courses to the enriched classes."

Raven had no clue that he made the guidance teacher interested in him.

He was busy looking at the English course listed on his schedule as he listened to the buzzing of students down the English hall.

He finds his class and knocks on the door; the sound echoing through the corridors as the clock struck ten minutes past the start of classes.

A few seconds later, the door opened and a middle-aged man with a thick, snowy beard emerged.

"Come in, don't be late next time." The man said.

"Sorry man, I had to get my times table changed to this class." Raven said casually and handed his times table to the teacher.

He raised a suspicious eyebrow and plucked the paper from his hands.

"Yes, I see. Apologise for my confusion. My name is Howard. Please come in."

Raven gave a slight bow of his head as if he entered the classroom.

As he surveyed the room, the unfamiliar faces filled him with a sense of unease, so he settled in a spot where the noise was more subdued.

He dozed off while listening to the teacher's voice droning in the background.

He could hear the ticking of the clock as he worked through his three other classes until the last bell finally rang.

Raven got up from his seat and saw Mia surrounded by the cheerful laughter of three other girls.

"Raven, over here!" Mia waved at Raven.

Raven walked over to Mia with a smile on his face.

"How was your first day at school?" Raven asked.

"It was fine, boring as usual," Mia replied, her arms slumped down, making her look like a lazy kitten.

"Hey Mia, who's this?" One girl in Mia's group asked, looking at Raven with fiery eyes.

Mia glared at the girl, her eyes narrowed in distrust. "Hey, Nora! That's my brother!"

Nora's eyes burned even more upon hearing this. "Can you introduce me then?"

Raven felt a wave of confusion wash over him. Not at the fact he couldn't see that she liked him, but at how bold she was.

"Hey, what's so good about this idiotic brother of mine?" She asked, her voice tight as she pursed her lips and crossed her arms.

"Hey, I know your siblings and all, but you can't tell me he isn't handsome?" Nora asked.

Mia looked at her brother and noticed his smoothed white skin without acne, and his European styled hair.

Her breath caught in her throat when she saw the look on her brother's face, and her eyes flew wide open.

When she looked at his face during the summer holiday, it was covered in red pimples, and his hair was dishevelled.

"Hey, why is your skin so white?" Mia asked.

Raven ran his finger across his cheekbone, feeling the softness of his skin.

"What? Handsome?" Raven asked.

Mia nodded her head. "Quite handsome." She added with a blush.

Raven smiled at Mia and turned to look at Nora. He saw her wearing black, exposed clothes that highlighted her breast and her lower area.

He crinkled his nose at her clothes, shaking his head before he spoke with Mia.

"Come on Mia, let's go," Raven said, pulling her away from her friends.

"Say Nora. Why are you so active suddenly?" One of the two girls on the side asked.

"Humph. Let me tell you. I saw Mia's brother in the enriched classes. Think for a moment, smart and handsome? It's scarce nowadays."

The two girls gasped in surprise upon hearing that Raven enrolled in the enriched classes. During school, you won't often find those who take such classes, as they rarely take part in social events and have difficulty understanding emotions.

Raven had no clue that his sister's friends knew he took enriched classes and was walking home with Mia side by side
