14 Awakening Part 3

It was now my turn to step through the door. I walked right up to it and, without any hesitation, stepped through into the darkness. Surprisingly the darkness did not last long. What stood before me was a large grassy field, and off into the distance, there were three different paths. But those paths led to three different places.

Each place was completely different. The one in the middle was a gray forest. To its left was a forest laced with gold and white. And lastly, on the far right was a forest that was black and blood red.

Floating around me were colorful lights. Some blue, some red. There were many different colors. They were small, kind of like a firefly in a way. But the other colors were heavily overshadowed by three simple colors. Black, white, and gray.

"So what do I do in a situation where I have an abundance of three different colors? I guess white is basically my angelic side. Black my demon side. And gray my human side?" I scratched my head and decided to start with the demon side. I might as well get the harder one out of the way first. I have a feeling demonic equals the dark element.

"The old priest said something about it being a bit tricky, but we will see how it pans out. But first, I should do something about all these elements. They seemed to be trying to enter my body. It should be safe to let them enter, right? I mean…. Well, I guess I can give it a try…. Wait, how do I let the elements into my body?" I muttered to myself as I stared at the elements for a while before closing my eyes. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was trying to imagine a door of some kind that would open up and let them in.

It might sound childish, but I really have no idea what I was doing. I was just using the idea of a door as a context of how to let them into my body. I sat there for god knows how long before I suddenly felt a surge of warmth flowing into my body. When I opened my eyes, all the gray balls of light were flooding into me like a raging river flowing by.

In a matter of seconds, all that was left were the white and black balls that were frantically trying to enter my body as well. "Do I need to change my form?" I pursed my lips and switched to demon mode, and sure enough, now all the black balls were flowing into me just like the gray balls. When they were all gone, I did the same for the white one. Now there were no balls of light.

"Hmm? This can't be right. Did I take in the other elements too?" I was a bit confused, but I decided to just let it be for now. I did not feel anything off about my body. More like I felt very warm inside. But not a bad warm, a soothing kind of warm. So I guess, for the time being, I was fine.

I transformed into my demon form and flew towards the forest that was black and bloody red. I was flying perfectly fine until I reached the line between the grassy plain and the forest when I suddenly began to float towards the ground. No matter how much I flapped my wings, I was not going any higher.

I landed on the ground just inside the forest when a loud howling sound entered my ears. I turned to see black liquid looking wolves staring at me with blood red eyes. I tilted my head and looked at them, and sneered. "Either you are coming or not, do not make me stand here all day!"

*Howl!!!!!*

The wolf monsters let out a loud howl. I guess my words angered them because they were now all charging right at me. With no other choice, I charged forward. I grabbed a large stick that was thicker than myself from the ground, jumped up into the air, and swung it down on the head of the first wolf monster. I did not hear any cracking sound, just a splashing sound as a black liquid sprayed everywhere.

I didn't stop there, though. I knew if I did, I might get seriously hurt. I spun around and whacked another wolf monster in the head. Another spray of black liquid went all over the place, including on me. But it was strange. It was as if the liquid was being sucked into my skin. I was also feeling the same warm sensation as I did before when I took in the black balls.

With each kill of the wolf monster, more and more black liquid sprayed all over me. After almost fifteen minutes of continuous fighting, all the wolf monsters were now dead. I stood in the middle of what seemed to be a puddle of black water and watched as it slowly sucked into my body until every drop was completely gone.

I looked around and saw the land around me begin to phase out and turn into a grassy field. It was then that I got a notification from my system.

And just like that, I gained quite a few spells. But I at least now know that I did indeed awaken the dark element. But now… I still had two more to go. "I guess I will go to the light side this time…." I muttered to myself as I flapped my wings and headed over towards the forest that was white and gold.

I had wondered what the priest had met when he said that the dark element was tricky, but now I know. You had to fight wolf monsters that were made of the element, but I think I went kind of overboard. Those wolves might have been able to die with the slightest touch, but it was good that I was in my demon form. Otherwise, I wouldn't have sucked up all of the dark element from the wolves.

But now that I am thinking about it, I should probably switch to angel mode. I do wonder if it will interrupt my flying, though. "Oh? Not bad!" I smiled as I looked at my now white wings. But once again, as I got near the forest, I was forced to land. This time I did not hear any menacing howls or any monsters for that matter.

There was a single path through the forest that led deeper inside, unlike the dark element's forest where I was attacked at the beginning. I walked down it for quite a ways until I came to what looked to be a town. There were many people that were walking around. They were corporeal to an extent but transparent and seemingly covered in a white haze. I had a feeling that the light element was another one of those tricky elements.

I walked into town, but no one seemed to pay me any mind. The town did not seem all that big, but there were many people around and in the middle of the town, which was no more than twenty buildings from what I could count. There was, however, a large statue of a woman with a set of feathers on her back and a halo on her head. I sighed seeing this because I knew it was an angel. It seems the white element was closer to the angels than the dark element was to the demons. I don't know why unless demons are not purely dark? At any rate, I still do not know what I need to do in this town.

I stood by the statue that towered high above me. I knew it was not that big, but as a five year old, it was pretty huge to me. I walked around it, hoping it would give me some kind of clue about what I was supposed to do. The woman depicted was very pretty with short hair and seemed to be wearing armor of some kind. But she was kneeling as if praying. I hated to think about it, but maybe this was what I was supposed to do?

With no other clues but this, I walked to the front of the statue, knelt down, and clasped my hands together. I closed my eyes and began saying a prayer out loud. "Oh idiot angels from afar, please grant me thy power? Or maybe… Hey, assholes, hurry up already. I do not have all day?"

I opened one eye and peaked up at the statue but got nothing which made me frown. I mean, I prayed. But it's not like I want to pray to these idiots. I mean, they were using my life as some kind of game. I'll be damned if I am going to let them control me!
