Scorpio

Unlike other ducal and royal scions who possessed golden medallions, Regulus couldn't care about such trivialities. Although he was an absolutist monarch in his past life, he had started from the bottom.

Regulus guessed Amy being sent to welcome him into the manor was no coincidence. Hence her surprised expression and quick departure from the premises.

'It seems the treatment of low and high-rank teachers within Karta Academy are night and day.'

'Any other gold medallion holder might try to incinerate her family at the slightest inconvenience.'

The manor's interior was moderately decorated, filled with all the necessities to ensure the comfort of the nobles during the testing period.

Exploring the manor in its entirety, checking for surveillance or any other irregularities, Regulus opened the door leading to the living room.

Although it followed the trends of the adjacent rooms, a peculiar silhouette stood out to Regulus like a sore thumb. Seemingly like a shadow cast out even by darkness, Azrael sat on a sofa, his magnificent wings of night folded behind him.

Regulus's roommate turned his ink pool eyes to observe Regulus, his every movement laying his nervousness bare for him to see.

Azrael could hardly believe the man assigned to share a manor with him was the man he admired the most. In the first test, Azrael had come close to submitting to his racial restrictions and tripping at the first step.

Yet, at his lowest, Azrael had seen a man's back that seemed able to carry the weight of the world striding ahead of him. This was none other than Regulus, a man with no card energy who still completed the first test.

Seeing the collapsed figure of Regulus on the tenth step, Azrael realised how pathetic he had been previously and reached the tenth step, making him the first dark angel to pass the first test since their fall from grace.

"To think that you would also make it through Azrael, congratulations."

Regulus's words carried a genuine happiness Azrael didn't expect from him.

Although they had gotten to know each other due to him constantly being questioned by Regulus before the examination, Azrael didn't think they had reached the level of friends yet.

Regulus, on the other hand, was delighted that an angel had been delivered right to his doorstep. The lingering celestial energy on Azrael had made him suspicious, but the memories of the Soul Doctor all but confirmed his suspicions.

Although angels were a small race, the Soul Doctor was obsessed with their dissection due to the irregularity they represented within Imissio.

The soul doctor could never fully understand what he saw within the angel's souls, yet to Regulus; it was clear as day.

A vile mark hidden deep within the soul of the angels, the seal of Scorpio. In his past life, Regulus had seen families rise and fall like the tide due to the constellation of Scorpio.

The most insidious yet arguably most potent among the celestial techniques, when the martial art and cultivation were utilised in tandem, Scorpio would provide you with great power but bind your life in return.

The conditions of the constellation were harsh; the techniques must be passed through each generation without fail. Scorpio utilised This rule to ensure his continued growth throughout the world.

However, if this condition was not met, the entire family's lives would be forfeited. Furthermore, if the techniques were lost, taking it as a slight Scorpio would prevent them from remembering until they retrieved the scrolls that held the techniques.

Sitting opposite Azrael, Regulus realised he held the opportunity to subjugate an entire race of warriors with minimal effort.

Although Regulus held no plans for world domination, his instinct as a King were screaming at him to act. Yes, Regulus knew the entirety of the Scorpio technique.

Knowing that it would indeed be foolish to look a gift horse in the mouth, Regulus decided to turn himself into Azrael's benefactor.

"The fate your clan suffers from, I know what it is."

Azrael, who was sitting on the sofa opposite Regulus, felt his nervous mannerisms freeze at those words.

The usually shy Azrael now held a frosty expression as he glanced at Regulus with great suspicion. Over the course of the years, the angels had often been tricked down perilous paths in the pursuit of a cure.

At one point, the King of the Angels almost tried to convert the species to a different religion due to promises from a pope.

Yet, no matter what they did, it always came back fruitless. Instead, they only seemed more pathetic and desperate in the eyes of everyone else.

'I truly hope that you are not like the others, Regulus; what a disappointment that would be.'

Looking at the relaxed blonde man reclining on the sofa in front of him, Azrael could only hope the man he admired wasn't trying to take advantage of him.

"Although I appreciate the offer, I can't possibly see how someone who didn't even recognise the angel clan just a day ago would now come back with the solution for a problem that has haunted us for centuries."

Recalling the way Regulus had referred to him as 'black chicken', Azrael was slowly becoming more assured he was being pranked.

"What are you going to ask the angel race to do then? Search for a miraculous fruit in the depths of the jungle? Or maybe eat a dragon's heart?"

Seeing how the shy young man in front of him had transformed at the mention of a cure, Regulus knew he had struck a nerve.

"Calm down, I never said anything about a cure; I'm simply going to return your technique to you."

Seeing the blatant lies coming from Regulus's mouth, Azrael now felt his respect for him crumple as the anger he was holding back burst forth. Now standing up and his wings spread in anger, Azrael spat out.

"You know I really respected you, Regulus, yet here you are saying you magically have our legacy technique that was only allowed to be kept by the angel royalty?"

Unwilling to listen to Azrael's tantrum, yet surprised that the angel respected him so much, Regulus stood up and reached out to the still-speaking Azrael.

"I hope we don- What are you doing?"

Almost as if the incoming finger of Regulus was unavoidable, it landed squarly on Azrael's forehead. Unlike anything he had ever felt, Azrael felt a peculiar energy surging through him.

Before he could remove the finger, Azrael saw an impossible change in the corner of his eye. Radiating a magnificent holy light at the tips of his onyx wings, the whiteness reminiscent of the first snow of winter could be seen.

Speechless, Azrael turned his head to the nearby mirror so quickly that he almost got whiplash. Looking back at him was an image he never thought he'd see before his death.

His charcoal black hair now shone silver at the tips, and his ink-like eyes now contained a silver hue. Like a magpie, his unfurled wings had now turned white at the end.

Azrael was regaining his true form as an angel.
