11 Blueberry Shortcake

- Location: Japan, At a certain hospital.

[POV: Jihye]

I woke up today in a hospital bed. It seems like I've been out for almost 3 days; the doctors said it was because I had overused my quirk. "How are you feeling?" Henri said as she placed a box of blueberry shortcake on a table next to my bed.

'Much better,' I said in sign language, as I still have no control over my new quirk. "You were so cool, you know," Henri said as she rested her head on the side of my bed.

'I don't even remember what I did...' I faintly smiled as I moved my hands. "I shouldn't have let them do those awful things to you," Henri said as she clenched her fist, her head down.

'It's not your fault. It was those villains that hurt me. But I'm way better now, so don't worry,' I said as I pointed at the box she brought with her. 'Blueberry shortcake?' I asked with a smile.

Henri smiled as she brought the box over. "We were interrupted last time, but I hope you haven't forgotten that you promised to share some," Henri said as she opened the box.

'Why didn't you just buy two?' I said, raising an eyebrow. "That would go against the whole point of this!" She exclaimed as she sliced the cake. I smiled as we enjoyed the whole afternoon together.

[POV: Third-Person]

At a later date.

Inside a hospital, Jihye and Kei were waiting for the test results from the quirk doctor to be announced. 'Do you think I really have a quirk?' Jihye asked in sign language, looking at Kei.

"It doesn't matter if you have a quirk or not. You will always be my daughter, and I will always love you as your father," he said, sweating and tapping his toes. 'It doesn't matter... huh...' Jihye said, noticing his demeanor.

"Come in," the doctor said as they entered his office. "It's been a while, officer, or should I say Detective Kurosawa," the doctor said, winking. "Truly... now, about Jihye's quirk," he said with a nervous tone.

"Well... she definitely has a quirk," the doctor said with a smile. "YES!! THANK THE GODS!! JIHYE!! I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!!" He suddenly yelled, pulling Jihye up and swinging her around.

"Contain your excitement, Mr. Kurosawa! You seem to be more excited about this than your daughter," the doctor said, faking a cough.

"A-Ahem.." Kei said as he placed her down. "Anyways.. she does have a quirk.. but there is something odd about it." As soon as the doctor said this, Kei immediately stood up and asked, "What do you mean, doctor?!"

"WOULD YOU JUST SIT DOWN?!" The doctor exclaimed, irritated.

Kei immediately sat down in the most proper way possible, facing the doctor with a nervous expression.

"Now... as I was saying, her quirk is quite odd... because although her body seems normal, she has quirk cells all over her body, as if she were a mutant type," the doctor said as he touched his beard.

"Reports say your quirk was some sort of paralyzing shout... can you demonstrate here? Don't worry, this room is soundproof, for doctor-patient confidentiality," the doctor said with a smile.

Jihye looked at Kei first, and he gave her an approving nod. Jihye then started to focus as she tried to minimize her voice. "a.." As soon as she spoke, everyone in the room was paralyzed.

After a few seconds, the doctor was finally able to speak. "I-i see.. it is exactly like how I hypothesized. Your voice is sent out at a set frequency that paralyzes those who hear it," the doctor said, looking over at his binder again. During this time, Kei hugged Jihye, and his smile was beaming.

"Well, because your quirk is inherently a mutant type even though your body looks normal, that might explain what the reports said about you having more than one quirk," the doctor said as he straightened his glasses.

"Some mutant quirk holders can have multiple quirk traits, like having increased strength plus being able to breathe fire, or having protective scales while having nails you can shoot as projectiles. The world of quirks has endless possibilities," the doctor spoke as he walked up to Jihye.

"Your quirk is amazing. Be proud," the doctor smiled as he patted her on the head.

"Mr. Kurosawa, be more observant as some of her quirk's abilities might manifest at any moment, though that shouldn't be a problem with your quirk," the doctor said as he signaled Kei to lend his ear.

"Do it for Jihye, and for Ms. Yeon," he whispered as he patted his shoulder. "Because things might end terribly if she accidentally hurts someone with her quirk... I've seen the reports of those bodies in the abandoned factory," the doctor said, going back to his chair.

"I will take care of her... always, until the day I die," Kei said with a resolute voice. "That's good enough for me... now get outta here! I have other appointments!" The doctor smiled, waving them goodbye.

...

'Did you know that, Doctor?' Jihye asked in sign language, wondering why they went to a different doctor this time. "Yes, he's a good friend," Kei smiled faintly as he grabbed Jihye's hand.

"Wanna grab some ice cream before we go home?" Kei asked as they swung their arms together. 'Chocolate and mint! Also, some blueberry shortcake to go!' Jihye said with a smile.

"F-fine.. but only for today!" Kei tried to sound stern as they left the hospital.
