Chapter 74: Zhao Auction
"Our second item is a top spirit grade seed of the light element, it is called Buddha's Light and even has a rare special effect".
Special effects were rare for even Soul grade seeds let alone a spirit grade one. This was probably handpicked for the new year auction by the Zhao family.
"The starting bid is thirty million with a minimum increment of five hundred thousand"

Cao Guang had thought about buying one for Gao Xuan when he realised the military had provided him one in exchange for merits.
"Our third item is a cluster of Soul Essences,
Two complete Warrior level ones and six Minion level Soul Essences, The minimum bid is Seventy million with an increment of atleast a million every time".
Soul essences were not usually sold in auctions as there were markets for that, being sold together in an auction meant that they were at the level required for making equipment or above.

Cao Guang opened the bidding himself in order to raise the price for the items. It was not the Zhao's cared. They would get more commission if the price was higher. As long as they paid up if they failed anyone could bid.

Cao Guang made one final bid in order to show weakness. Eighty million was more than a fair price, he wasn't going to bid over the top and be left with the stuff he was supposed to sell and a bill.
Box 6 in the VIP area bought the Soul Essences for eighty two million bringing Cao Guang's savings to 372 million. He could buy almost anything in this auction as long as they were worthwhile.
The next item on for sale was set of magic equipment made by Huo Tuo a great artificer of Magic City. It was sold for Seventy million. Then came a Fire spirit grade seed followed by other elements. So far Cao Guang had found nothing he wanted.
Auctions are good source for rare resources but they depend on luck if I am going to just join whatever I can find. I should ask Lin Feng to follow some more auctions.
To be honest his assistant didn't have much work, by a few thousand Purple Demon crests in Yantai. Follow Mo Fan and other characters of interest closely and search for a few troublesome people. But he mostly outsourced it to Hunters and Private Investigators. It wasn't like he could follow every person closely. There was no problem asking him to keep an eye on auctions around the world.

But it didn't help Cao Guang either way as he stood up to leave as soon the auction was over.
The auction house had another source of information that he was eager to look into.

The clerk at the counter greeted him with a smile.

"I must say sir, what information you receive is random and it could be not useful or unhelpful, the auction house bears no responsibility on the matter. Each piece of information costs 5 million."
"I understand".
Cao spent money to receive some useful information that he could do nothing about like

Other times he got useless information like.
'The Razortail Drakes of Dongting Lake want more resources to attempt to breed better ....'
There were characteristics that made a mage unique. For Cao Guang he currently had four such things.
One was Little Tora pendant that could accelerate his cultivation, collect Soul Remnants and Essences and even condense Soul Remnants into Soul Essences and lower level Soul Essences to higher level Soul Essences and vice versa.
Second was supposedly the innate talent of Cao Guang the transmigrator Innate Heavenly seed of Summoning.
Third was the Innate talent of Cao Guang the native Double innate elements.
And lastly the Little Flame Belle who had the potential to have a heaven grade seed of fire.
A mage's path of invincibility wasn't just about improving existing characteristics, but also seeking new ones. He had attained Little Flame Belle and the Little Tora pendant and his second innate talents because he sought out some details that weren't clear in the canon.
Yet he could find so much in the gaps of Knowledge he had. He had 202 million remaining in his account when he got a worthwhile information. He also received some other useful pieces of information that he could compile and sell it through the Hunter Union's network to earn back some of his money.
He estimated that he would get back about 35 million at best, bringing his savings to 237 million.
