25 Chapter 25 Night on the Wall
Cao Guang met his squad at the entrance to their post for the night. As the three of them were new to Ancient capital's fighting environment, today they would have to rely on Luo Heng's experience.
"Luo Heng how familiar are you with the undead, is there anything we should be concerned about" asked Cao Guang.
Although they had theoretical knowledge on Undead in actual scenarios some facts may be more important.
" So basically zombies and skeletons are the most common among the Undead. Regardless of what type of Undead it is destroy it's Undead core and it won't regenerate and keep a light spell always ready.
Every squad is meant to have a light magician. So who is ours?" replied Luo Heng still a bit reluctant that he was not leader of this squad.
"I am , but I can only cast Brilliant Light right now" replied Gao Xuan.
"That's enough, it is meant to guard against wraiths and spectres and every night we are supposed to cleanse ourselves with Light spell before we can re-enter the city"
"Alright then, we will get to know each other and some details about the way we fight." said Cao Guang " I am Summoning and Fire intermediate mage and can cast both of them."
" Sound intermediate and shadow primary" said Song Xia.
"Earth primary and Light primary"
"Fire Intermediate and lightning primary" Luo Heng rounded up.
When posted on Walls, soldiers had three duties Organise, Support, Retreat. Lieutenants organised a squad of soldiers and eliminated any undead that attacked the walls. Scouts on Heavenly Eagles would determine these if they couldn't detect them.
Support any other soldiers fighting nearby and help any Hunters or Soldier in their retreat. The last part meant there was an unbeatable undead and needed Advanced mages to step up.
As for Cao Guang's group, they could handle a few Servant class Undead as for Warrior maybe a single weaker one anything else was out of reach. But that was not going to be their roles on first night.
"Let's take our positions, Song Xia watch out for any Heavenly Eagles" said Cao Guang looking at his watch.
The squad took their positions on the wall as Squad 17 under Lieutenant Hao. For them most of the start night was boring most of the Undead were being taken out by Hunters. Towards the middle of the night was were stronger undead came out and Hunters needed assistance.
" Squad seventeen take out the zombies while Squad five deals with the Hatchet Corpse General".
Cao Guang and his squad quickly positioned themselves between Squad five and the ten zombies. The zombies were irregular in every sense of the word. Most of corpses looked out of place because the body parts did not match their own or vice versa. They were also among the weakest in the Servant class in terms of offence but their defence and recovery was truly outstanding.
Fenrir reigned himself in and stood infront of Song Xia who was in the centre as her guard. Little Flame Belle who wanted to get in on the action was standing beside Cao Guang while Gao Xuan was at back.
"Luo Heng with me"
Both Fire mages prepared a Fiery Fist as the zombies came close. Gao Xuan used his Earth Wave to pool as many of them together as possible while Little Flame Belle chimed in with a spell here and there. She was the controller. Although Cao Guang was worried she would loose interest in these zombies quickly.
She alone could take a few of these zombies even though she had yet to be out of her Infancy. Cao Guang thought about giving her a spirit grade seed to accelerate her growth and then held himself back and decided to wait for his money problems to go away.
If it didn't he was always shameless enough to ask his teacher. What was another fifty million when he was five billion in debt.
Their coordinated Fiery Fists and Flame Belle quickly eliminated the ten zombies giving Cao Guang another two Soul Remnants. Undead were much better in terms of Soul Remnants than magical wolves.
" Be on guard a second Warrior is approaching Squad five, I have already reported this matter" said Song Xia.
" We go all out and help Squad five in eliminating this Hatchet Corpse General now"
The Hatchet Corpse General was larger than any other nearby zombies. It was as tall as three Fenrir's put together. It's head was mangled. In a corner of it's body they could see a military uniform as well. One of the corpses that made this abomination was a ex soldier.
One that needed to rest.
Cao Guang and Luo Heng prepared another Fiery Fist duo while Song Xia channeled a Death Song.

Song Xia casted tier two of the intermediate spell suprising Luo Heng greatly as he quickly reassessed the strength of his team. Cao Guang could cast two intermediate spells already even then his strength had yet to peak.
Gao Xuan could not cast the intermediate spell yet and had the weakest cultivation in the group but he was only one who had a Spirit grade seed. And Song Xia could use second tier spells directly using her talent.
Their spells would only delay the Corpse General while Song Xia's could genuinely damage it. An arrow of Sound struck the interuppred Corpse General as Squad five prepared a killer move. Cao Guang had already shown them hand signals that a second Warrior was approaching.
Fiery Fist Nine Palaces
Nine Coiling Columiof Fire hit the Hatchet Corpse General leaving a giant hole in it's body. While Song Cast another Death Song Bow. The Corpse General was slowly recovering from it's wounds using the energy of night but it's Undead core was exposed.
The Undead Core was broken by the vibrations caused by the spell. Normally they would kill the Undead without destroying the core as it could be sold or used to recover one's spiritual energy.
It's effect would halve after every use and would only work at the same level and on one element. Intermediate mages needed Cores of Warriors. Every Stardust held spiritual energy. For Cao Guang his Summoning and Fire Star Nebulas held spiritual energy.
Even if he cast too many Fire spells too quickly he would only be a bit dizzy. He could still cast spells of the Summoning element.
The second Warrior was also a Hatchet Corpse General on this one's face was a soldier. The previous Corpse General had probably killed this Soldier who ended becoming a Corpse General of its own. This was the reason zombies and skeletons were irregular in every sense of the word!
"Don't leave me here" said the Corpse General as it approached Squad Five and Seventeen.
Squad five was made of four mages who had reached intermediate level in both their elements.
"All Fire and Lightning mages with me now " ordered the captain of Squad five as they cast their Fiery Fist again.
Cao Guang and Luo Heng also added their Fiery Fist only this Cao Guang did not hold back and fused with Flame and made use of her spirit grade flame. She was only in her Infancy and couldn't use it properly when she fought alone but it was a different story when they fought together.

The Fiery Fists made contact with the sluggish Corpse General almost tearing it in half. Three shadow nails caught off guard and sealed it's movements in quick succession.
Shadow Spikes Rose Thorns
The Shadow mage timed his attack perfectly after the first offensive effectively sealing the Corpse General's movement. It had already given offensive mages far too much time to cast their magic once but now with it being sealed and Song Xia, Gao Xuan and two other watching their back they could go all out again and kill it, especially Luo Heng his talent made him suitable for a lasting battle. He had twice as much as spiritual energy as a normal mage.
There were usually two factors that influenced amount of spiritual energy, number of elements and cultivation. Besides it had different uses than just casting magic. The more spiritual energy you had the harder it was to seal your cultivation with spells like Shadow Spikes and longer your cultivation time and so forth.
This time they could kill without destroying it's core. Another barrage of Fiery Fists made contact with Corpse General as it died. Cao Guang quickly sent Flame Belle to sleep as the squads purified themselves with Light spells and divided the loot as they made their way back to the Wall.
Although generally considered useless, the primary spell of Light Brilliant Light was able to nullify Shadow element, if the caster could overpower their opponent, it counteracted some curses and poisons in its fourth and above tiers. Some weaker demon beasts with extremely good vision and vision based attacks could be delt huge damage with this spell.
