Chapter 8
Picking up the call Hank asked Nick where he had gone for which Nick explained that he was just going for surveillance as he had obtained a clue to a case which was assigned to him and would be back by evening. It was pretty normal for them to be assigned individually small cases as they would only solve Homicide, Robbery homicide and kidnappings, in other words Serious crimes together.
Cutting the call Nick placed his full focus on driving as fast as he could to get to the place where the FBI agents were going. On the other hand he was listening intently to the bug he had set up. The reason why he did not immediately follow the agents was because he knew that unlike regular cops FBI agents were vigilant and knew anti tracking abilities and for Nick who wasn't that good at surveillance as of yet it was better to wait it out and make his move later.
Meanwhile inside the van, unlike her colleagues who were taking it easy despite following the regular protocol set by them while transporting the prisoner, Kaniger was extremely vigilant and kept an eye out on the prisoner just to make sure he didn't try anything funny. She didn't understand why but the more time had passed the more worried and vigilant she became. The words said by Nick kept running in her mind over and over and she felt that her colleagues were taking it easy which made her feel irritated and uneasy. Just as she was about to make her suggestion the van suddenly stopped for a bit and there was an intense shake followed by gun fire startling all the FBI agents. They quickly reached out to their guns in an orderly fashion without much panic and while two stayed with the suspect the rest quickly opened the door after getting an 'OK' signal from the driver who was also currently shooting at the suspects.
Just as four FBI agents burst out of the door with a plan to shoot at the suspects responsible for this ambush, the assassin who had been calm till now suddenly took action and took out the two FBI agents who were left behind to guard him shocking Kaniger who was now distracted due to the sudden ambush her group was facing. She quickly gained her composure as she had expected such a thing to happen and without any hesitation she jumped off the van while unloading an entire magazine at the suspect.
What she saw shocked her to the very core. The man whom she transported had somehow turned into a monster and with a beak as sharp as an eagle and a claw which matched that of a predator he tore apart two of her colleagues after using them as his shield, broke his restraints using sheer force and grabbed the head of the van driver who was currently screaming, scared for his very life and tore his face apart gouging out his eyeballs
Her body shivered and froze up as she saw the monster which was akin to a predator look towards her and with unimaginable agility make its way towards. Kaniger tried to remove the emptied magazine and load it with a new one only to fail miserably because of the panic she was in and tried to run through the woods which was to her left only for her legs to fail her. Crawling and using her hands she desperately tried to reach the end of the road with her eyes closed only to realise that the pain she thought she would feel was not felt but she heard screams and shouts of monster followed by intense gun shots.
Knowing that the monster was out trying to kill her colleagues made her sigh in relief and gather herself up. She was ashamed of the fact that she was relieved that the monster targeted her colleagues instead of her and that shame brought out anger towards the monster as she loaded her handgun with the magazine but didn't immediately rush to help her friends instead made her way into the woods.
She knew that if a team of four heavily armed FBI agents couldn't kill the monster then her presence was nothing more than an extra body. Using the time available she wanted to inform her agency of the presence of such a monster and ask them to bring as much back up as possible. Though she feared her bosses not accepting her explanation and even treating her for insanity she didn't care much at this time and only wanted to help.
Just like how she had predicted her bosses didn't buy her monster crap but they did send backup once they heard that they were being ambushed and three of her colleagues were dead and the rest of the team were engaged in an intense gun fire. Her boss asked her to hide and wait for backup fearing that she would blindly head towards the gunfight in rage and end up getting killed. Her seeing a monster was treated as a hallucination she was having due to sudden ambush.
Just as she was praying, asking for someone to be able to understand, the face of Nick popped inside her mind as she quickly gained composure and no longer tried to sell her monster story and even accepted that it might be a panic attack. Hanging up on her boss she quickly tried to call Nick on his mobile, hoping that he would answer her call.
As if God was answering her prayers nick answered her call almost instantly and said that he understood and that he was nearby and coming towards her while asking her to hide einside the woods and try to stall as much as possible.
Nick had already heard of the heavy gun fire followed by shouts of monster through the bug he had placed on Durwell and from the looks of it the guys from Juarez cartel must have ambushed them by hiding in advance at the place where they would pass by. Now the question which passed through the mind of Nick was "How?"
Unless there was a mole within the police department or in the FBI agency it was practically impossible for these guys to know the place where the FBi agents would pass. "Did someone from the PD hack into their GPS to monitor their movements or was it from the FBI?".
Jamming his accelerator to its full throttle Nick quickly shifted to the 5th gear and rode at full speed till the speedometer indicated the red zone. Nick was just 5 minutes out before he reached the group however these 5 minutes seemed like forever and many things could happen in these 5 minutes like the FBI agents not able to hold out against a supernatural monster and just like what Nick had expected the sounds of shouts and gun fire turned from rythmic to erratic and screams could be heard.
"Tch!! Maybe a 5 Km cushion was too much. I am truly not used to such operations. Things like expecting ambush and planning a counter attack must be done by someone who has experience in such field and though i know how to fight i am not experienced enough to make such sophisticated strategy" Nick frowned blaming himself for such incompetence but quickly gathered himself while promising to kill every one of those freak bastards as that was all he could give back as tribute to the FBI agents that got killed today.
The gunshots long died down and the sounds of meat being cut out and painful cries filled his earpiece that Nick had to force himself to listen to while grinding his teeth. He didn't really want to listen to this shit but he had to as he was afraid of missing any clues and the shouts and cry for help and begging for mercy made it worse that Nick felt he would end up having nightmares of today.
By the time he reached the scene there were no more noises coming from his earpiece and what he saw was a scene of carnage filled with blood, spilled guts and disfigured faces of FBI agents. Carefully alighting himself of his car Nick made his way to the scene with his handgun and found it empty apart from the bodies of FBI agents.
"Holy shit!! So this is how the scenes of wesen murder cases look like. This is no ordinary shit. No amount of training that I do would help me in stomaching such a scene. This shit needs experience".
Nick's stomach churned by the scene he was watching but did not turn around to look away and made sure to ingrain this scene in his mind in a bid to strengthen his resolve in killing the crazy ones. Searching in and around the vehicle Nick identified drops and smudges of blood which led to the woods and quickly ran towards the woods with only his handgun. Before coming to the scene, once he received a call from Kaniger he immediately informed Hank and made sure to ask for backup. Though hank and Renard asked him to wait he didn't and said that it would be better for future cooperation if he managed to save at least 1 FBI agent and though Hank did not care for such thing and was only worried about my well being, Renard with his own political agenda immediately asked to save them and made sure to add the sentence 'Be careful' at the end.
Knowing that by now the FBI agents would also be informed of his arrival Nick placed a note on his car explaining that he was going into the woods Nick ran into the woods. Meanwhile the FBI agents who were arriving at the scene already had the face of Nick in their phones to make sure that they don't end up shooting a cop by mistake.
