6 Chapter 6 Magic Awakening
"Yawn".
"That was a terrible nap, my neck and back hurts".Mordred said stretching her body and slowly raising to her feet.
After fully awakening a large grin grew on her face.
"Time to look at my hard earned rewards".
Mordred opened the system. Her status remained unchanged so she went straight to the inventory function.
"Ava, how does this work?"

Mordred grabbed her rifle and did as Ava instructed. The rifle began to dematerialize into a blue light before vanishing completely. She looked at the inventory panel and saw the name of the rifle listed there, then she brought the rifle out. The rifle materialized back into Mordred's hands.
"Nice, now I don't need to carry so much stuff on me, no more back pain".
Then she looked towards the new tab displayed in the system labeled as Worlds. She opened the tab and saw the name earth by itself on a list.

"Finally, I can leave this shitty world with terrible food and shitty standards of living! But first I must prepare for the journey, I don't want to end up in a new world then starve to death. But what if its a hostile world that's worse than this place?"
Mordred gave the idea a quick thought before arriving at her usual conclusion.
"I'll cross that bridge when I get there, now to spend so points in the shop!"
Mordred switched tabs to the shop and began browsing. She already had some items in mind when she did a better inspection of the shop. She purchased Magic Awakening Pill, Elementary Magic Book, and Basic Magic Control Book for a combined price of 650 points. A paper, two books with fancy covers and a small crystal materialized in her hand. Looking at the items, the paper was instructions on how to awaken magic after consuming the pill. Looking at the books titles Mordred frowned.

"I'm not a dummy". Mordred said silently, storing away the books and reading through the paper.
"To awaken magic a weak magic catalyst is recommended for those who have no experience or knowledge in the field of magic. The catalyst will stimulate the body and allow the it to begin gathering energy and housing it within the body, this will cause a small feeling of discomfort for a short time as your body will begin to adapt and temper itself to the magic energy".
Mordred raised the crystal up above her and gave it a good look.
'I guess this is the pill'.
Mordred continued to read through the entire paper until she had a good understanding of what she needed to do.
Mordred took off her heavy equipment and stored it in the inventory, she calmed herself and steadied her breathing. Then took the catalyst in her hand and swallowed it. She was surprised that it tasted like candy.
A warm feeling was felt in her stomach. She closed her eyes and felt the warmth in her heart begin to expand. Despite what the instructions said about feeling discomfort this feeling was very comfortable for Mordred. Then she got hold of that warmth and tried to will it to move throughout her body, as the instructions said this was needed to help form the body's mana veins. It was going very well, the warm energy was now spread in all parts of her body, then she noticed the energy in her chest began to increase.
She continued to have the energy flow through her body, but the energy only increased. Her body began to sweat due to the rising heat.
'Is this the discomfort the book was talking about'.
Mordred decided to just bear with it but the heat began to rapidly increase until it quickly became unbearable.
"AAAAAAHHHHHH".
Mordred fell to her knees, screaming out in pain. Her body felt as if it were entirely on fire. The heat continued to increase and now she felt like being submerged in lava while being stabbed hundreds of times all over her body, her temperature shot up at lightening speeds and her blood began to boil.
She couldn't bear with the pain and began to lose consciousness only to awaken a second later to scream out in pain. This painful process continued for a few minutes until the energy stabilized itself, the pain slowly fading away.
Mordred was now curled up on the ground with tears running down her face, breathing heavily like she had been deprived of oxygen. She stayed still for awhile, afraid of the pain returning. When she finally began to move the pain was gone and she felt her whole body numbed.
"Hah hah... why the hell was it so painful".
[Report: You stimulated the dormant magic core inside your body. The resulting pain was because the magic core began to uncontrollably flood your body with mana and your body was barely able to hold it in, had it failed you would have exploded]
"Well, that's terrifying to know, tell me what this magic core is". Mordred asks, her breathing now stabilized.
[Report: A magic core acts like a generator for mana. It constantly produces massive amounts of mana while also increasing the body's mana capacity]
"Sounds cool but why was it dormant and not working".
[Report: That is unknown I do not have any available information of why it was like that]
Mordred slowly got up and checked her body for any injuries, once she found none, she picked up the pamphlet and stored it in the inventory.
'My excitement for learning magic is gone after going through that, hmm maybe my status changed'.

"Mana burst?" Mordred stared at the change in her status.
[Mana Burst - Infuse the body with magical energy which increases strength and speed. Can also infuse weapons with magical energy allowing them to deal devastating attacks by releasing the infused energy]
'Never-mind my excitement is back'.
The knowledge of the ability entered her head and she immediately tried to use the ability, not thinking of whether her body had recovered.
Red lightening began to surround her body, a large grin appeared on her face then she vanished in a burst of red lightening.
~BOOM~
"AAAHHH FUCK".
Mordred was now several meters away rolling on the ground holding her face, she was next to a large boulder that had a head sized hole in it.
"MY FACE".

Mordred had now returned to the town and was inside a room in a clinic.
A doctor who was a tall young man with short brown hair and blue eyes had walked in. He took a look at the woman sitting in the chair, Mordred a patient he is familiar with since she is kind of a regular patient at this clinic. He saw her hand on her bloodied nose.
"What the hell happened to you?" He asked.
Mordred glared at him, if looks could kill he would have died 10 times over.
"Don't ASK". She said in a threatening tone.
"Sigh, very well".
'I should ask for raise'. He thought before getting to work.

Now inside her home after a trip to the clinic, she was laying on her bed. She stared at the world travel tab in the system.
'I have a lot of preparing to do tomorrow'.
