Chapter 0: Prologue

You want to know what the worst thing to hear ever is?

Girl: "Look out for that truck!"

That would be it. That is the worst thing to hear when you're on a bridge to save a stranger's life in the middle of busy traffic. But I'm getting way ahead of myself. First off, hi. My name is Iida Tsuneo… or at least it was… and this is the story of how everything changed for me on the day I died. Yes, I know what I just said. "You died? What's this about? What's this got to do with Dragon Ball?" That's probably what you're wondering right now. Well just hang with me for a sec and I'll explain. You see, I'm just a normal guy. I live in Tokyo, where I just finished high school and now work a crappy summer job to help pay for college. All my friends made it to big schools on scholarships or just went out into the world the moment they finished school, so I don't really get to see them anymore. It's kind of a bummer, but I'm ok. Because while I may not have that many friends or that much money, there's one thing in life that makes me happy. Dragon Ball. Ever since I was a kid, I loved Dragon Ball. I've collected all of the manga, own multiple copies of the anime, and keep up with everything Dragon Ball from movies to Dragon Ball Heroes cards. I've dedicated a lot of my life to it. My folks call it a distraction, but it makes me happy. So with that bit of information, let's get into what happened. So I'm walking down the streets, minding my own business. I had just bought a set of Dragon Ball Heroes cards.

Iida: "And the last one is…" (Yes! 1rd Form Frieza! Now I've got a full set of all his forms. I can use this on my team of Friezas.)

I walked on the sidewalk that was across the road from the Sumida River. It was the fastest way home. But as I walked, I heard a scream.

Girl: "Help!"

I looked over to the bridge that goes across the river and saw a girl hanging on for dear life.

Iida: "Oh my gosh!"

Girl: "HELP!"

I reached into my pocket to call the police, but my phone was dead. Did I forget to close the Dokkan app from earlier? If that's the reason it was dead, I'm such an idiot. Because since that didn't work, I decided to do something else.

Iida: "Hang on! I'm coming!"

Famous last words, right? I booked it onto the bridge while avoiding a bunch of cars. I made my way to the side and reached down.

Iida: "Grab my hand!"

The girl reached up and took my hand. It took a bit, but I was finally able to pull her up.

Girl: "Wow… You saved me."

Iida: "Uhhh…"

For dangling off the side of a bridge, she still looked really good. She thanked me for everything as we made our way off the bridge. And ok, maybe I should've been paying more attention to the road, but I was a bit busy.

Iida: "Hey, uhhh… What's your number? I could text you- To know that you make it home ok!"

Girl: "Hahaha. Sure. It's- Look out for that truck!"

Hearing that was a little jarring, but not as jarring as feeling an 18-wheeler slam into my body. I remember feeling a ton of pain as my body flew through the air and over the bridge. I then remember feeling more pain as I hit the water, but then everything went numb and cold. Everything went dark, leaving me in total darkness. I don't know what was going through my head. Was I scared or shocked? I don't know. It was just kinda blank until a light began to shine in front of me. Then this soft and calm voice starts talking to me.

Voice: "Iida Tsuneo. You preformed a great and selfless deed. For that, you shall be granted your heart's desire for your afterlife."

Iida: "Uuuuuugggggggggghhhhhhhhhh… Wah?"

Hey, you get hit by a truck and then fall off a bridge into a river and try to speak clearly.

Voice: "Your dream life. Your greatest fantasy brought to life."

I wasn't fully "There" yet, so I kinda just had this mentality of just agreeing and saying whatever to get out of the light.

Iida: "… Cool… Yeah… What do I do?"

Voice: "Do you have a preference?"

Iida: "Sure… Uhhh…"

Voice: "Hmmm…"

Then, my cards appeared before me as if the light was looking them over.

Iida: "Hey… That's mine…"

Voice: "Perhaps this shall be your perfect fantasy. Pick one."

The cards flew out in front of me, and maybe it was my disorientation from dying, but there seemed to be more of them than what I bought.

Iida: "Uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh…"

I just reached out and grabbed one.

Voice: "Excellent."

Suddenly, the light grew brighter. I couldn't see anything other than the blinding white. Thankfully, it faded away and I was back in darkness. But this time, that went away when I opened my eyes. When I did, I was looking up at a ceiling. I was in some kind of bed. It was nice and warm, so I decided to just lay back and enjoy it.

Iida: (This is the afterlife, huh? Mah, I'll check it out later. Nap time.)

I just laid there and enjoyed the rest, until I could feel that someone had turned on the lights and a voice woke me up.

???: "Good morning, sir. We await your presence at the control room."

Iida: (Ugh…)

I've never been much of a morning person. So I just sort of fumbled around in my bed as I tried to get up. That's when I noticed something was off. It felt like something was in the bed with me. I opened my eyes a bit and looked, but I was apparently alone. That's then I noticed the room. It was huge. Bigger than my old bedroom for sure. It was like some kind of super fancy hotel room that I could never afford. I was blown away by it, until I noticed window. I stumbled to my feet in shock. Outside was a view of something you'd only see at an observatory. Freaking space! It was a spiral galaxy. Right outside my window! I took a step back and nearly tripped over myself. Something was wrong with my feet. They felt… weird. When I looked down though, I saw why they did. I only had 3 toes. My eyes went wide as I walked back and stepped on something. It was like a large worm or something, only when I stepped on it, I felt that it was being stepped on. It was… a part of my body! I panicked even more and stumbled over to a full-length mirror on the wall. I looked into the mirror with horror and screamed out.

Frieza: "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! I'M FRIEZA!"

And thus, this is how my new life as Frieza began.
