"So Tazuna, mind telling us the truth now ?
Those shinobi were clearly after you. And you know what, this raises the mission bar. And we have the right to abandon you right here if you continue to hide the information."
Kakashi's words were not kind.
But considering the situation I didn't think that he should be kind.
But I was really surprised when the old drunkard brook into tears.
"Please don't abandon me. I will tell you about the truth."
He did that to make us feel guilty. But it seemed that someone experienced as Kakashi couldn't be fooled easily.
"Just drop your acting and tell us the truth already or I will truly abandon you. My students lives are on the line."
"*sob* It is Gato. He has been making our lives miserable. The land of waves is almost finished. Our economy has already collapsed. The only thing that is saving us from completely sinking is that bastards greed.
Gato owns the largest shipping company in the world. The shipping magnet is the actual ruler of the land of waves. You can guess that he over charges us for everything. The land of waves is a small Island depending on inland business to survive. But when someone has the complete control over our transportation then it is impossible to survive.
And he has strong goons in thousands to take care of anyone who rebel against him."
Tazuna paused.
But Kakashi didn't late him speak anymore.
"Let me guess, you are making the bridge that might end Gato's monopoly over the economy of the land of waves.
But if that's the case then you knew that he might higher shinobi to kill you. Didn't you ?
Then why did you lie ? You could have taken a higher ranking mission."
"As I told you earlier, the land of waves is very poor. I have barely managed to arrange the money for a c rank mission.
You are a shinobi don't you know how expensive these missions are ?
But don't worry I understand that you have to take care of your students. If you abandon me then nothing major will going to happen. Just my little grandson will cry cursing and blaming the hidden leaf shinobi for the rest of his life. And the people of land of waves will continue to suffer."
Tazuna became teary eyed again.
Kakashi looked unimpressed. But I didn't like the way of talking of the old drunkard. He was trying to make us feel emotionally guilty for himself. I snorted openly at him.
"Who are you trying to fool here ? Old man, the amount of sake you have consumed so far during our travel alone, is enough to pay for a d rank. And if we consider the total consumption of alchohol, and add it to a C rank mission charge, then you could have easily afforded a b rank mission.
You are just making excuses. The truth is whatever money you had brought from your country, you have vested them on alcohol. What an ideal grand parent you are !"
"All though that was not exactly the truth but she is right. If we consider your alcohol consumption, then you could have easily afforded a B rank mission.
So instead of a sound story you should give us something more if you want us to protect you.
You have already lied to us. So your sob story is not going to work anymore."
Kakashi was stern this time. So Tazuna gulped in fear.
He couldn't think about anything else. So finally got into his and bed us to protect him. It was pathetic actually. But no matter the condition he was in, he should have stayed honest. I think that any team except for our's, would have abandoned him.
Actor a pitiful display, and more indirect cursing, Kakashi finally turned to us.
"So what do you say ? Should we continue the mission or abandon him ?
I should warn you that the mission rank has gone up. So there is a fair of chance that we might meet some higher ranking rouge shinobi."
"I think we should help the old man, only if he promises us to pay the rest of the money later." Naruto has moved from the sub story of the old drunkard.
"We should continue the mission. If continuing the mission means that we will face higher ranking shinobi then I am ready." Sasuke said without any hesitation.
Finally thekashi turned towards me.
"I don't care. I don't mind continuing the mission but only if he promises to not drink alcohol. At least not in our presence. The smell is truly disgusting."
I didn't try to hide my disgust. He was a free client afterall. There would be no consequences of disrespecting him.
Finally Kakashi turned towards Tazuna.
"So you heard my students. We will continue the mission but you are not allowed to drink any alcohol and you have to arrange more money before the end of this mission. If you agree to our condition then we will continue our mission, otherwise we will return to our Village. Regardless of what might happen to you.

Finally a lot of thinking the old man agreed to our conditions and we continued the mission.
