Gazing at the screen a smile graced Rak's face. 'It seems I haven't been forsaken.' He chuckled internally as he gazed at the interface in front of him. It seemed like a pretty basic system from what Rak understood.

He had his stats, name, profession, skills and tasks listed, a very standard system to say the least. 'I wonder, why are the numbers brown.....' Rak pondered, but soon dismissed the thought. After all he had completed a task already so he was excited for his reward.

Fiddling with the interface a bit, the tasks cleared and his Merits increased from 0 to 5. 'This.... does put a smile on my face.' After this Rak continued fooling around with the interface, but he soon realised that there was nothing else to it leaving him stumped.

"Whatever, I'll deal with it tomorrow." Rak muttered before falling asleep, he was mentally and physically exhausted, after all he had died, reincarnated and mopped the ship all in one day.

--

As the sun rose over the seas, Rak arose with a yawn. '.....Fuck where am I? Did I fall asleep while playing again....' Waking up Rak, looked around his room before remembering the events of the previous day.

"Oh ya." With that the boy got out of his bed and began roaming the halls of the ship. He'd get nothing done by staying in his room, and frankly speaking he still needed to learn a few things, such as where the mess hall was, what his duties were precisely, and lastly where the ship was headed.

All of these things were vital to his survival one way or another, and although now he knew he had a magic system, like every generic fanfiction protagonist ever, he was still weak at least for now.

After walking around the ship for a few minutes Rak finally ran into another Marine. "Oi Rak, whatcha doin over here? Shouldn't you be eating breakfast?" The man asked. He had short black hair black eyes, and stood at 1.9 meters tall.

"Ah I woke up a bit late, were you just at the mess hall?" Rak replied, lowering his head. If possible he didn't want to come off too strange, at least not in the beginning stages. While they'd probably suspect nothing, it was better not be labelled as deranged or possibly mentally ill after all.

"Nah, you know how I am I was about to go now. Never thought you of all people would be tardy as well." He chuckled. After that the two walked to the mess hall in silence. It seemed the man had nothing else to say, and if possible Rak wanted to avoid conversations as much as possible.

A few minutes later the pair entered the mess hall, Rak quickly grabbed some food before sitting down alone. Eating his food Rak observed those around him, apart from himself and the other marine, there were 4 other marines in the mess hall.

While this wasn't all that important, Rak believed it was better to know who was who, you never know what might happen at the end of the day.

Finishing up his food, Rak placed his dish at the disposal location but just as he was about to leave a loud shout came from the kitchen. "Rak what do you think you're doing? I know you woke up late today but do you think you can avoid cleaning duty too?"

Hearing this Rak immediately turned around and headed towards the disposal location. "No sir, I apologise." Replying as politely as he could Rak entered another room where the sink was located and began washing the dishes.

Task:

Wash the dishes. (In Progress)

Reward: +2 Merits

>>>>><<<<<

Noticing the system prompt, Rak smirked before washing the dishes more vigorously, now that he had a reward he'd naturally do the job to the best of his abilities. Although he didn't understand how merits worked just yet, the more the better no?

Finishing the washing up, Rak sighed before taking the dishes to the kitchen and placing them in what he assumed was their designated location. After this he left the mess hall and then headed for his mop and bucket.

While he didn't know if he had any other tasks, he assumed that his main job was just to clean the ship considering his occupation was chore boy. So he began mopping the floors once again, and none of the others acted like it was anything out of the ordinary when they saw him so Rak assumed he had got it right, especially when a system prompt appeared displaying a task exactly the same as his original one.

Like this the day passed by and Rak laid on his bed once again. Throughout the day he had earned another 10 Merits. He got 2 from washing the dishes in the morning, 5 from mopping the floors and 3 from washing the dishes at lunch time.

Looking at his merits Rak smiled, but soon that smile turned into a frown. '...How do I even use these things.' He thought as he played around with the system some more, to no avail. Eventually he just didn't bother with it and slept he could figure it out later.
