40 Chapter 39: Old Valyria: Journey

(1,200 words)

- Oberyn Martell POV -

- Narrow Sea - Narrow Sea - Planetos - 280 A.D -

"You must calm yourself Lord Dayne. Your anger will not get your sister well any sooner" I said to the guy in front of me. He was a shady guy who was accompanying us on our "recovery mission to Ashara Dayne", which was a total lie. I simply wanted to meet with Percival Bolton and talk about what happened between him and Elia. It was better to resolve the matter right now.

"Lord Martell" a beautiful brunette girl said to me from behind with a big smile. Her black hair full of long curls and her brown eyes gave her a look worthy of Dorne.

I had met her on this very trip, and something about her had mesmerized me. Why, she was accompanying her father who was also traveling with us. Her father was Lord Harmen Uller of Hellhot, and she was Ellaria Sand, a bastard daughter of course. I had fucked her the same day I saw her, she was totally delicious. Lord Uller still doesn't notice, and I hope he doesn't soon. It would be a pain in the ass.

- Percival Bolton POV -

We had sailed across the Narrow Sea from Braavos. My personal guard along with Ashara Dayne had not yet arrived in Braavos, but I wasn't planning to take them either. They have two missions, the first being to train the next generation of personal guards while Lisa indoctrinated them. Among them were; Brianne of Tarth, a member of Kingsguard of Renly Baratheon, although the guy had another strange name for them.

There were also Robar Royce and Bryce Caron, also members of Gaysguard, to complement with Preston Greenfield and Balon Swann, who were, or rather would be in the future without my intervention, members of the Kingsguard of Tommen Baratheon.

The second task was as simple as surviving, as this journey was very dangerous and they would not really be useful. These are ruins, there are no enemies, only natural dangers. There is no use for warriors.

So the only relevant figure I had with me was Davos Seaworth because of his great skills as a navigator. The rest, while competent, were not very important figures. And they were all really replaceable.

Why yes... There are irreplaceable figures, and that was a real problem. But even though this was a fantasy world, it had a big limit. I wasn't someone capable of taking on armies, so I needed people on my side, people besides me. And people with the level of competence I required don't grow from trees.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited Milord. But I think it's too risky for you to come with us" Davos said to my side. He, though he was trustworthy, did not know that I was not risking my life, and that if I saw it threatened, I would sacrifice my son to survive. He didn't need to know that, since if he has at least a quarter of the morals he had in the show, we would have problems between us.

But the thing is, everything was going well, and if I could find dragons, it would be even better. The only problems were; taking down Euron Greyjoy, as he had grown too big, and, of course, seeing which side I would be on in the next civil war.

I hadn't made a great relationship with Robert Baratheon because of the Faceless Men incident, and I wasn't close to The Crown either. So that had complicated things quite a bit for me. But at the same time it had also given me more room for choice. I wasn't committed to anyone and I could ally myself with anyone, but this is also complex. If you constantly fuck two girls who want something serious without choosing one. You'll end up being alone. Although that doesn't run for someone as cool as me.

"You can be cool Davos," I said to the young man in front of me. "I can't risk the lives of my subordinates on something this important while I sit back and watch" I told him. But the truth was why this was too valuable not to go in person.

Besides my confidence was much better because of my pseudo immortality. First of all my body would no longer age thanks to the philosopher's stone. And I also had a second life by sacrificing my son's life. Almost like the characters in platform video games. Then I had more confidence in myself.

"It's an honor to serve you" he told me seriously, in an almost excited tone, while I nodded to him with a smile. He was a naive and manipulable boy.

Valyria , also called Old Valyria. It is a city part of the long dead wonders of long ago, and was once the capital of a great empire called Valyrian Freehold . It was destroyed by a cataclysmic event known as the Doom of Valyria a century before Aegon's Conquest.

Valyria was on the Valyrian peninsula, which extended into the Summer Sea. The Doom of Valyria tore the peninsula apart, separating the city of Valyria from the Lands of the Long Summer by the Smoking Sea. The city of Valyria is located in the center of the largest surviving island, surrounded by cliffs where the island has separated from the mainland. Valyria was connected by dragon roads to surrounding cities, such as Tyria.

The thing is that Valyrian Freehold members had as their leaders Dragonlords, people able to ride and control dragons. Using magic most of the time. And the power was mainly divided into two houses, House Targaryen being a house without much importance.

The guys were absolute conquerors, conquered a civilization, also disappeared, known as Old Empire of Ghis, also with Basilisk Isles, as well as the lands of Sothoryos. These last two belonging to a continent south of Essos that is not even mentioned in Game of Thrones.

They were also responsible for two of the three great migrations from Essos to Westeros. Driving the Andals out of their lands, who occupied all of Westeros except The North and Dorne.

Then there were the Rhyonar who took over Dorne. While The North always belonged to The First Men.

In fact, it is said that for all their ambition and desire to expand, that Doom of Valyria was a punishment from the gods. Although it may also have to do with all the dark magic they used. That to this day is one of the greatest dangers of visiting Old Valyria.

Since well, many people ranging from Targaryen with their dragons, other survivors of Doom of Valyria, merchants or Magisters of Essos, along with Westerosi themselves, have tried to either sack or conquer Valyria, but no one has succeeded.

Maybe it's because of the treacherous Smoking Sea and the creatures that inhabit it, or because of the myriad of curses that may be in the city.

"We can only pray to the Seven," Davos commented, as he believed in Faith of the Seven.

"The gods favor the brave and bold" I commented to him.

"That's true... As far as I understand no one has managed to really explore this city, only the outskirts. We are about to make history."

"Oh... My partner... This is just the beginning of our story"
