1 Chapter 1

Standing in the dim light of the street, a figure leaned against a light post, sighing. Running her hand through her long, wavy brown hair, Autumn fought back the tears creeping into her eyes.

She should've known that her snarky attitude would get her fired, and since she was counting on her next paycheck to tide her through the next month in her small, rotting apartment, Autumn had nowhere to go.

~Flashback~

'CRASH!' The sound of something falling attracted everyone's attention, Autumn included. Working as an assistant in a crowded office, such happenings were quite normal, however, this time, everyone's gaze stood locked onto the brunette that had knocked over a stack of meticulously sorted files.

Papers fluttered to the floor, and everyone sent a pitying look towards the person who would have to sort them again. Autumn.

Taking a deep breath, Autumn fought the urge to scream. So far, this whole day was nothing more than a disaster. The brunette, her name Emmaline, had been determined to make her life hell, and, she was succeeding.

"Oops," Emmaline said, "Sorry about that." Yet her gaze locked onto Autumn's, showing her a smirk.

Autumn snapped, "What is your problem?!?! This whole day you've done nothing but get in my way! What did I ever do to you?!?"

Emmaline rolled her eyes. She walked forwards, stopping right in front of Autumn. By this point, the audience had dispersed, all going back to what they were doing. Emmaline was not one to offend.

Leaning forward, Emmaline whispered, "Want to know why?" She paused, before snickering, "Because I can."

That was it. The last straw. With a menacing glare, Autumn said, "Oh really? Then how would you like a punch in the face? Because it sounds like you really want one."

Emmaline immediately put on a frightened expression. She blinked, innocently asking, "What are you talking about? I only wanted to apologize for knocking over those files."

Autumn gritted her teeth, knowing that because Emmaline's brother was in a high position at the office, no one would stick up for her, and sure enough, no one confronted Emmaline about her obviously fake words.

Autumn frowned, annoyed. Then, an innocent smile spread across her face. 'SLAP!' The crisp sound rang through the now silent office. Emmaline was on the ground, amongst other files and sheets of paper, holding her face and bringing tears to her eyes.

Rolling her eyes, Autumn turned to walk away, only to be stopped by a violent grip on her shoulder. Turning her head, Autumn met the rage-filled eyes of Emmaline's brother.

Autumn blinked in shock, quickly glancing at the clock. Half-past 2, she noted. Emmaline's brother should've just arrived. 'What a cunning vixen,' Autumn thought, glancing at the pitiful figure sitting on the floor.

Autumn shrugged her shoulder, dislodging the hand holding it. As Emmaline stood up, about to make her way towards her brother, Autumn snarled, "Stay on the floor, it's where you belong after all." As she spoke, she kicked the back of Emmaline's leg, causing her to fall.

Autumn could quite clearly feel and see the wrathful gaze of Emmaline's brother, but Autumn was fueled by her rage, not thinking of the consequences.

Swallowing his anger, Emmaline's brother spat out, "Better start packing, you'll be leaving by the end of the day."

And sure enough, she was fired.

Walking back to her apartment, Autumn thought about what she would tell the landlord, but when she arrived, the sight of her belongings being thrown out stopped her in her tracks.

The landlord approached her, looking apologetic. No words were spoken. None were needed.

~Flashback End~

And as a result, Autumn now walked along the streets, staring at the barely visible stars amongst the bright city lights.

Autumn made her way into a dark alleyway, preparing for the night chill. She wrapped her jacket around her tighter, already feeling the cold.

Slumping against the hard brick wall, she slowly closed her eyes, despair overwhelming her. "I guess this is the end, huh."

'If only,' she thought, 'If only I could see the stars again.'

Autumn felt the darkness creeping in, yet she didn't fight it, instead, welcoming it. As her consciousness slowly faded away, for the first time in years, she felt peace.

Floating in the darkness, Autumn waited, staring into space. She was simply a soul now, where only her thoughts remained, echoing around in the endless space.

Autumn was an orphan, abandoned at birth. She often would stare at the passing children accompanied by their parents, envying filling her eyes.

She had been passed around from foster home to foster home. Eventually, after meeting dozens of people, none of which whom had shown any interest in her, she stopped trying.

Constantly getting into fights, her foster parents treated her as air, tired of her antics. Autumn didn't care. She was used to it.

When she finally turned 18, she left immediately, much to the happiness of her foster parents. Joy. Happiness. Anticipation.

High school was a pain. So she skipped her classes. The teachers couldn't care less, happy to get the troublesome student out of their hair.

Eventually, she had gotten a low-paying job as an office assistant, an errand-runner.

Autumn laminated at her pitiful life, wishing that she had a second chance. 'Why?' She thought, 'Why couldn't I have been normal?'

Suddenly, an ethereal voice rang out. "Do you want to live again?"

"Yes," Autumn replied without hesitation.

A figure appeared in the darkness. It was a young girl, however, she had a pair of fluffy ears on her head and an adorable tail swishing behind her.

"My name is Eclipse. I have long given up on my world. Wars rage through the lands, evil goes unnoticed, and conflicts happen frequently. I will transfer my memories to you, best of luck."

A light appeared in the distance, growing bigger and brighter with each passing second. Autumn was soon encompassed by the light before it started fading away, and with it, went Autumn.
