CHAPTER START---
Standing before lady Tsunade, team Kurenai receives their briefing.
"Team 8, your job is to remain within Suna until our representative leaves. Between the three of you, I expect you to catch any sign of Orochimaru or his subordinates in your area. Jin, do you still recall the feeling of his chakra?"
"Of course Lady Hokage"
"Good, I have our representative being escorted there in a few days, I need you to arrive ahead of him and be ready for anything, the ANBU should take a few days to get there when they leave,"
"Yes, Lady Hokage" They reply in unison.
"Dismissed," she says while passing the mission scroll to Kurenai.
Not a few moments later, Tsunade gives a small glance to the open window.
"Lady Hokage," Kakashi greets her as he flickers into the office.
"Good to see you Kakashi, we need to be quick, you have an S rank solo mission to deal with."
"Of course, what's the mission?"
"We've spent the last 5 months trying to rebuild relations with the sand, that becomes final when our delicate works out the last details with their council" She quickly says.
"You need me to run interference maybe?" The copy ninja questions, a reasonable deduction.
"No, someone else is trying to steal our little union. Apparently, Unity Trading has been in talks with the wind and fire daimyos. My scouts report that they've secured immense farmlands in fire country already, they then went to the wind daimyo and immediately got cleared to buy up vast unused desert lands. We can't afford to launch an investigation because of a little clause the daimyo's office is hung up on. Take a look"
As Tsunade passes him a sheet of paper, Kakashi barely takes a moment to scan the page.
"This is, what..."
"Exactly, a ceasefire clause. Any country in open conflict with Unity Trading or its allies will not be given any resources." She says, moving to pour herself a drink.
"I don't see the issue, they can't simply deny the land of fire if this is where they have the main base. We would just attack them and force their hand." Kakashi once more shows his tactical genius.
"I thought so too, unfortunately, food isn't exactly what we get from them. Since they got all that land in the sand they've accelerated medicine production at an unprecedented rate. The agricultural plots in our lands have also been producing an absurd amount of food. Crops are reported to be growing four times the regular speed. It's flooding the market and their territory is expanding."
"Hmm, a takeover?"
"Exactly, whatever jutsu they have is making them a growing necessity. In the last five months, the taxes on food have plummeted and exports have never been this high"
As Tsunade pauses to take a sip of her sake, Kakashi has a moment to ponder this information.
"Hmmm, what exactly are you asking me to do here lady Hokage. This doesn't sound like any OFFICIAL mission to me, unless, I'm mistaken perhaps."
"Someone is taking over the economy of the land of fire Kakashi. The daimyo is either oblivious or supporting them and we don't know who the hell is pulling the strings. We can't do a damn thing because quite frankly, the surplus of medicine has saved more lives than I'd care to admit, and on top of that taxes would skyrocket compared to where they currently are since so many crops are under Unity control. We need two things. Step one is to figure out who is in charge of Unity, step two is to reverse engineer or steal the jutsu they use to accelerate crops like that."
"Hmm, remove them without reversing their work then?"
"Exactly, I can't say I don't appreciate what they're doing, but we can't leave the land of fire and her people's lives in the hands of a stranger. Most of our border nations aside from Ame(Rain) are fully supporting unity. In five months their leaders have just bowed their heads."
"Hmm, all of them?"
"Rain, grass and waterfalls are the last holdouts. Rain is mostly self-sufficient. Grass hasn't come around yet but eventually will feel the pressure when all their neighbours are allied and surround them. Waterfalls, well they have 7 tails so they don't feel any pressure right now."
"All of this seems a bit too fast for just a few months, something isn't adding up here lady Tsunade."
"The daimyos are the cause, the fire daimyo and wind daimyo are letting Unity use their channels to start branching out. It's accelerating their growth. This is the most dangerous thing, the daimyos may be compromised." She says in a stern voice.
"LADY HOKAGE, that can be taken as treason. Be careful how freely you speak" He says, clearly concerned.
"Right, so anyway, I need you to infiltrate the land of fire main office and see what you can turn up on Unity Trading. Preferably one of the objectives I mentioned earlier. Shinobi from the respective nations are sent to guard their bases inside their borders. You can easily just disguise yourself and begin your infiltration."
"Hmm, talk about a high-pressure mission."
"Yes, unfortunately, the economy of a few nations can be affected by this"
"Alright, I'll handle it lady Hokage."
"Good, dismissed" Tsunade commands.
