Choosing to be reborn into the world of Naruto, a young man sets out on a journey for peace in his own way. Expect my take on a realistic depiction of this world with blood and all, NO HAREM. This isn't my main story just a side project I'm doing to relax so be aware of that. I don't own the Naruto brand/series or the cover art, if you own either and want this story/cover removed just speak up and it will be done.

CHAPTER START---

Standing in the bushes sat atop a large hill, team Kurenai observed a large fortress castle with torches and braziers alight in the dead of night in the valley below.

"Hinata, have you found him?" Kurenai asked the young Byakugan user as she scouted the castle.

"Mmmm, yes sensei. They have him and other prisoners in jail on the edge of the fortress. Northside." Hinata reported.

"Hmm, if it's outside we can get him then find the scroll after. Even if he just tells us what it looks like we can find it with Byakugan then sneak in deeper and grab it. How many enemies do you feel Jin." Kurenai says.

" Hmm, big castle but only 10 genins. Maybe the others are out right now. If we want to move we have to move quickly. I don't sense anyone else in my range." Jin says to his sensei. His eyes closed beneath his blindfold as he focuses on stretching his senses.

"How far is your range?" Shino asks.

"2 KM if I'm focused, 500m passive"

"Then we should move now, Hinata, give me the layout and Jin point out where people are."

As Hinata draws a crude diagram of the fortress from her memory Jin marks down where the enemies are located.

"Alright he's locked in with 3 prisoners, if we get him outside we can get a rundown of what happened. We need to get out of here before their reinforcements get back so I'm only taking Jin and Hinata inside with me. We need Byakugan to find the scroll immediately if it's in there and Jin is our sensor. Shino, set up traps and your insects around this area in case we get chased out. As soon as we get into your area I want us to be safe. If we make noise stay on guard and wait for us, DO.NOT.RUSH.FORWARD. Everyone understand?" Kurenai quickly gave them a rundown of the plan."

"Yes sensei, I guess this really is a B-Rank mission now huh sensei," Jins says in a joking manner.

Sigh, "No. But it will be if their reinforcements appear. We can clear the fortress no problem but I don't want us in unnecessary fights." Kurenai says as she takes one long look at her team. "Alright let's go." She says as she runs toward the fortress.

As they approach the fortress, the 40ft stone walls surrounding it are seen towering above the forests. The torches along the wall lit, purposefully giving the appearance of a fully manned defense, unless a Byakugan is on hand to see through the ruse.

As they reach the edge of the treeline to the fortress at the northwest wall, everyone gets into their combat mindsets fully.

"Hinata."

"Yes sensei, Byakugan!" Hinata says as the veins around her eyes bulge as her vision pierces through the walls.

"They're directly behind this wall on the other side. Two enemies standing guard"

"Alright, Jin with me, Hinata stay here and keep an eye on the others," Kurenai says as she runs toward the wall.

With Jin following his Jounin team leader they quickly run up the wall, he keeps all of his senses open to monitor the chakra within his range.

"The jounin are back, I can't tell how many sensei. They're too far for me to tell them apart," he reports to Kurenai as they approach the top of the wall.

'He can sense chakra while moving, that's good. We need to make this quick' Kurenai thinks as she begins running down the other side of the wall.

"Take the left one," She says as they quickly descend on their two targets. With two unknown ninjas below them guarding the jail building.

Descending on his target Jin drives a kunai into the young woman's neck while his sensei does the same to the remaining guard. As the bodies, his the floor Kurenai has already looted the keys and turned around to open the door.

Walking into the jail they saw the simple room with one large cell along the far wall, their target, and three other men can be seen within. Bound by chains with their mouths gagged.

"Jin, get the cage open," Kurenai commands as she pulls the dead guards inside the building.

As Kurenai drags the bodies Jin simply holds the door to the cell and pulls it off with his chakra enhanced strength.

*CLING*

As he sets down the door to the cage he walks into the cell and approached Chin, the man they've come to find.

Quickly removing the gag from the man's mouth as he starts working on breaking the chain.

"I knew Konoha would send someone for me,"

"Where's the red scroll you were transporting?" Jin quickly asks as he breaks the first shackle.

"Uh, they said they were taking it to the Hidden Valley Village. Something about the seal was too good on it," The man quickly answered.

"Alright, your restraints are off, are these other prisoners your men?"

"No, they were here when I got here."

"Go with my sensei," Jin says as he quickly moves to eliminate the witnesses in the cell.

As the small clanking of chains stops and silence rings out in the jail, Jin walks to Kurenai's side.

"No witnesses remaining. We need to move, they're at the other side of the building already,"

Quickly, with the man over her shoulder, Kurenai sprints up the wall of the fortress. As they both summit the grey stone an arrow sinks into the stone nearby. Turning around they see one of the young rouge nin waving to the others, presumably jounin.

"Shit, hurry," Kurenai says as she leaps down to the ground with Jin on her heels and rushes over to Hinata.

"Get to Shino" She commands and all the leaf ninja take to the tree branches.

As they leap from branch to branch arrows and shuriken pepper the tree trunks around them.

"Should I counterattack with Jutsu sensei?" Jin asks in a calm tone.

'This kid's crazy, he only has Great Fireball and Water Wall but wants to fight a team of Jounin'

"Get to Shino and he can slow them down."

"Yes sensei!"

As they continue with the chase through the forests, eventually they have to cross a small river with no cover to get to the other side.

"They're closing in on us, they're faster than us sensei" Jin reports.

'This is as fast as Hinata can go so we can't speed up, a gang of some bandit nin shouldn't have jounin at all. Something's wrong here,' Kurenai thinks as she processes the situation.

"Cross the river and we should be far enough to get distance from them," she says as they leap onto the surface of the water.

As they begin crossing the 100ft of the river an enemy ninja appears and finally fires an accurate arrow. As the arrow soars through the cool night air directly toward Hinata, her relatively weak chakra control compared to her sensei and Jin making her the prime target. Jin suddenly shoulders her out of the way.

"Argh!" He yells as both he and Hinata fall to the surface of the water. Looking back to see her team down on the water Kurenai makes to turn around and help them only for Jin to yell at her. "GO!" he shouts as more of the enemy arrive at the edge of the river.

As he drags the shocked Hinata to her feet and begins to drag her along, the arrow still piercing his back and causing his blood to freely flow into the river below from his shoulder. As he spares a glance back to see another arrow passing by his body. With a subtle motion, he moves his thigh and allows the arrow to pierce his flesh just barely. His body jerks as his pace is slowed even more.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!" They all hear as a bright light flares to life behind them. One of the enemy nin has decided to start using ninjutsu. With a smile on his face, Jin quickly throws Hinata. As she hurls past Kurenai both women turn to see Jin moving at a slower pace, a clear limp in his step.

With nothing in his range to substitute with, he keeps limping before turning slightly and showing his allies the arrows apparently slowing him down. he quickly whips his head to his allies as he yells to them, "FINISH THE MISSION!" before the fireball envelops his form.

Leaping and catching the shocked Hinata in her free hand before sprinting with everything she has toward Shino, as sad as it is. Without having to think about a third person escape is much easier. Before the fire and steam can blow away she is already in the forest leaping through the trees.

Kurenai grits her teeth as she looks back, no enemies gave chase across the river. She grits her teeth as her eyes become teary, the feeling of seeing such a young person die like that, a member of her team. On his first real mission no less.

As she and Hinata arrive near Shino. The moment their feet touch the ground he can feel the atmosphere is much different. "Where's Jin?" he asks, concerned about his teammate.

"We'll talk when we're back in the village, focus on that for now." Kurenai grimly says as they begin to make their way toward Konoha.
