18 Unsatisfied

On the other hand, Denise who started this whole fiasco was completely forgotten. She didn't know if she should be offended because her presence was neglected or thankful that they seemed to have forgotten her embarrassing act.

She is contemplating whether to just slip out and pretend that nothing happened. Or ask for forgiveness, after all the other party is her potential sister-in-law. She can't fall out with Eunice before she could take down Eugene himself. Although the hurdle is a bit high since she had already offended her.

While contemplating Denise decided to seek help from Alice. After all the two of them have a good relationship. Mostly because Denise made an effort in trying to reach Eugene through Alice. Maybe their relationship is not as deep as friendship, but they are at least on speaking terms. Surely, she would take her side, right?

With that in mind, Denise kept her gaze on Alice, waiting for her to notice her. And Alice did not disappoint. Probably because Denise's gaze is so intense. When Alice turned her head, she finally noticed Denise's pleading gaze. She is completely oblivious about what had transpired between Eunice and Denise so she didn't understand why Denise is looking at her that way.

Probably noticing Alice's confusion, one onlooker roughly explained everything to her. That's when she finally noticed the unusual gathering of the crowd around them. Well as a celebrity she had long got used to people crowding around her so she didn't think anything is unusual.

In fact, Alice was at the backstage as well preparing for her performance at the beginning of the auction. When she saw Eugene rushing out, she immediately assumed that Zach has arrived. After all Eugene is a fan of Zach. She also received a message earlier from Mina, Zach's other assistant aside from Donny, that they have arrived at the venue.

So, she immediately rushed out after tidying up herself. She just didn't expect to see Eunice and Zach standing so close together. Seeing that, she disregarded other details and just went forward to break the two apart.

After finally getting the gist of things, Alice fought the urge to show disdain towards Denise. She knows that she is lacking in the intelligence area, but she didn't expect her to be this dumb. Still, she can't let Denise to completely lose face since Alice still needs her to take control over Eugene.

Although Eunice is the rightful heiress, just bringing her down won't be enough for Alice. She also needs a contingency plan against Eugene in case he needed to replace Eunice. By putting the useless Denise beside him, not to mention Denise is fawning over her, Alice could make sure that Eugene won't hinder her plans. What's rightfully hers will be hers.

"Ah, so that's what happened." Alice sighed after hearing the onlooker's recount. "Eunice, I know Denise must have offended you. But can you let this one go, for my sake? You see Denise is a friend of mine. She can be impulsive when it comes to Eugene, but I assure you she is a good person. Please forgive her, okay?"

Alice act as a magnanimous saint that if Eunice didn't let the matter go, she would seem petty. After all Denise's attitude isn't considered extreme since no violence was done.

"I think you misunderstood something Alice. We were not having any conflict. Miss Denise just introduced herself. In fact, I believed her at first. So, there is no need to ask for forgiveness." Eunice said innocently.

In short 'She humiliated herself and dig her own grave. I have nothing to do with it.' Is what Eunice thinks deep inside.

"What do you mean you believed her?" Eugene retorted instead sounding offended.

"Well, she sounded confident. You can't blame me brother. Anyway, it has been clarified so calm down." Eunice pacified.

Eugene and Eunice's bickering may look harmonious and funny but it managed to spark dissatisfaction towards Denise. Emphasizing her lies once more.

"Now that we think about it, what Miss Eunice said is true."

"Yeah. Since the beginning Denise was the only one shouting and making a scene. Miss Eunice on the other hand was confronted without a reason."

"In other words, it was just a one-man show."

Alice is stupefied with Eunice's retort and Eugene's assist. And after listening to the crowd's words, if Alice still insists on settling things it would seem like she is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

This is another thing that Alice hated about Eunice. She could easily lead anyone on with just her words. There is something about her that makes other people unconsciously listen to her and agree to her.

In the end Alice decided to give up. She will just console Denise later. Anyway, this is just a minor setback. With Denise shamelessness when it comes to Eugene, she is certain that this event won't be shaken her resolve.

"Then that's even better! Good thing it was just a misunderstanding. Denise must be relieved that you didn't come to hate her at all. Then shall we end this? The Auction will start shortly. We should be on our seats by now." Alice said in finality.

Obviously, Denise wasn't satisfied. Some may think that ending things like nothing happened is good enough especially for her pride. But she didn't think so. At least if she got to apologized and be forgiven properly, then the "conflict" will be resolved.

But because there is no formal reconciliation, an invisible line is drawn between her and Eunice. This would make things awkward for her when she befriends Eunice in the future. She didn't want to be at odds with her future sister-in-law!

Although Eunice knew that she had the advantage this time, she didn't get any satisfaction in Denise's plight. But she also knew that she had no choice. The incident this time is too significant and too petty. It won't ruin Denise's reputation enough to keep her out of her life.

Her only consolation is that Denise wouldn't be able to approach her given their awkward first meeting. Which in turn will prevent Alice from monitoring her, if she still intends to do so despite her not getting involved with Zach.

However, Eunice will soon realize the extent of Denise's shamelessness. But that's for another time.

Meanwhile the onlookers who were waiting to approach Zach can only leave in disappointment. And checking the time, it is indeed almost time for the auction to start. They could only wait patiently for another chance.

On the other hand, Zach who didn't get to contribute anything can only sigh in defeat. Although he felt relieved that Eunice seems to be capable enough to protect herself, a part of him wanted to be relied on by her.

But not only he is useless, he is also a potential source of trouble for Eunice. He couldn't help but look down on the woman, who somehow started clinging on his arm at some point. Then at Eunice who is walking a few steps ahead of them.

Seeing that Eunice didn't seem affected by his closeness with Alice, he could finally conclude that she really didn't feel any attraction towards him.

'Looks like she had completely forgotten her own promise. What a heartless girl.' Zach could only lament in his heart.
