1 Back in Time

Aura slowly opened his eyes. He stretched his hand out and felt around. Fluffy? What kind of spatial realm has blankets and a bed? And these seemed to be his own from back when he was living in his small house with his sister. Aura looked around in confusion. Everything in his room looked exactly the same as back then. All of a sudden, he thought of an unbelievable idea.

"Brother! You're finally up, it's time for lunch," the voice of his little sister called out from outside his door.

"Lydian, what's the date?"

"The date?" She paused. "It's July 31."

"What year?"

"Brother, is there something wrong with your brain? It's 3020."

"Oh, nothing. I'll be out in a minute." Aura took a deep breath. It seemed that his thought was correct. He was being chased by a furious Molten Drake just minutes ago. He had been trying to obtain one to fill out his team, but he hadn't thought that it had a partner hiding in the lava. One level 70 Molten Drake was already powerful enough, but two of them was a certain death sentence for someone like him. Weren't species like dragons said to be solitary creatures? He had been forced to enter an unexplored space crack in an attempt to survive. Somehow, instead of leading to a spacial realm, he had been sent backwards in time, back to just a day before the appearance of mana on Earth, back when he was only 16.

Aura tried his best to calm his excited heartbeat. With his knowledge of monsters, which could be said to be unrivaled in the current world, he could escape the fate of being a mediocre monster trainer, he could be something more than a nobody. He recalled when his sister Lydian, who was much more talented than him, had held herself back to help him and stay with him. This life, he would be able to provide the proper life for her that she deserves.

August 1, 3020. The day known as The Awakening. On this day, mana began to emerge from the Earth from mana springs. With the appearance of mana, the barrier between worlds weakened, and spatial cracks opened in various areas. With dangers often came opportunities, and it was the same with mana and the space cracks that led to other realms. Humans gained the ability to utilize mana, and in humans it manifested as soul force. They also gained the ability to capture and train otherworldly monsters. Monsters usually specialized in using mana for elemental manipulation or physical strengthening, so humans were able to sign soul contracts with exhausted monsters who were weak in their soul, leading to the birth of the profession known as monster trainers.

Now that Aura had an advantage in information, he needed to make a plan. In his past life he had been an average monster trainer specializing in fire type monsters, but now more paths had opened up to him. Should he choose the path he was most familiar with, or should he choose something that might be better. He sank his consciousness into his mind and inspected the blue orb that represents his soul, the mana he could utilize.
