Chapter 64 - Purify

There was a huge back story on spirit bearer, a special NPC and his family's belief. This author will not bore you readers with the story. It was so lengthy that even Saachi was trying his best not to yawn. If not for searching for the clue (even he had no idea what he was searching for! ), he would have happily skipped this portion. Wrong! This NPC was powerful and had left deep impression on him. If there is a chance to increase affinity with such powerful NPC, why waste that chance?

The curved horn mega sized goats were once vehicle of a powerful God NPC and his clan prayed to. So they had obligation to look after them. It was just like looking after boss's brother-in-law however lousy he is.

Now the NPC has found a new underling, he would use him to do such important yet irritable things. As these mega goats were considered partly holy, demonification had not affected them completely. One in 10 or 20 had absorbed such energy, turned evil and crafty to boot and hid themselves in the herd waiting till they gained enough strength to annihilate all.

Enter own hero. His job - to find these crafty goats and kill them....no, no,no. Even if they had evil energy, at the end of the day, they are still mega goats (Saachi's name for these monsters, thus the author is now bound to use the same terminology as MC. Sorry for the inconvenience). They can't be killed. Instead, they had to be purified. Take out all the evil energy into external object like the crystal pendant given by NPC.

That's why this is a obligatory yet strength determining quest. Killing demonified monsters was difficult. You can ask our hero to explain or take it as understood. Purifying, on other hand is a bit easy. Each time the monster is purified, a portion of evil energy is lost and it becomes more and more normal.

The problematic part is actually finding which monsters had the evil energy and go near them to use the pendant.

As explained before, these mega goats only had physical skills. A prudent player or an experienced player would have asked for more clues. In such case, the NPC would have honestly answered that demonified mega goats had magical powers too. From these, identifying them was a easy step.

Saachi did not ask for tips or clues. Now the comedy of errors starts. NPC thought Niyam (Saachi's avatar's name, if you had forgotten) had big enough background to know such details. You ask when you don't know. That means when you don't ask, you already know about it.

And no, Saachi is not yet aware of NPC's thoughts or his perception. If he had, he would have even asked hundred and one questions, affinity be damned.

You know what happens when NPC thinks you are strong? You get quests. Lots of quests. Lots of torturing and horrible quests.

The quest given by village chief? Yeah, it was supposed to be open to players near month end. It was like leaving behind bread crumb clues for players in dungeons and when they receive the quest from village chief, they would have 'Aha! So that's what it is!' moment. Thanks to mistaken belief that Saachi was strong, he gave the quest quite early and the difficulty level was also increased quite a bit.

Now the same sequence was repeating and this idiot of the MC had not yet learnt his mistake. No, it's even worse. He doesn't even know he made a mistake.

Anyway... the spirit bearer was quite helpful ( should have guessed the things were bad based on this fact alone) and took him near 'goat yard', a map with lots of hilly obstacles. The mega goats had hazy and crazy eyes, chewing grass Tufts growing between boulders and having crazy fun jumping around those boulders and hills.

Saachi waited and watched. The colours were different. The curve in horns were different. But all mega goats had same crazy habit. Jump around like they had sugar rush, come down, slowly search for the grass inbetween the boulders, chew and jump around again.

Saachi can be forgiven for once for the mistaken belief that grass was root cause. (pun not intended.) His ' identify' skill turned out to be useless on both grass and mega goats. That's a big hint. Both grass and goats are high levelled, even higher than level 10. If not for the effects of pendant, those monsters would have killed him long time back.

He pulled a tuft a grass near the border after trying multiple times, the place was far away from crazy mega goats. Yet the moment the root came out, all the monsters turned at him. The whole map froze and became silent, or so it seemed.

It was a moment's silence though. As if those monsters could not believe that someone had audacity to steal their food. Then they woke up. This b@$€@*d was stealing their food. Kill him, again and again, annihilate him.

There was only goats bleating, thundering hooves, shaky earth, falling small boulder pieces. What could Saachi do at such situation? Run! Run, run ,run trying to get away from these mega goats. But where could he run? This was their territory after all. In between the skills rammed down by these goats, he had to still search for those demonified monsters, those evil ones using death rays and cursed vines, but how to search from them in the group chasing him?
