Carried By Him

Evelyn started to pile up the goodies in her hand. Her eyes gravitate to the pack of gummy candies, and she grabbed them. After that, her eyes went towards the milk chocolates.

Although she wished to add that to her list, she noticed that there was no space in her hand. She could barely balance all that she had in her hold.

Evelyn's eyes were concentrated on the snacks as she carefully walked forward, not letting any one of them slip. It would be a pain to pick them up.

As she had her head lowered, she didn't notice her surroundings well, and this led her to bumping her head into a strong surface. At this, all the goodies in her hand fell down, and the impact was about to make her fall back when she felt a grip on the collar of her dress.

At this, Evelyn raised her head to see a pair of green eyes staring at her coldly. Her stare slid down to notice that she had dropped everything on his feet, and seeing how she was secure, the man released his hold on her.

Intimidated by him, she nervously took a few steps back and said, "I-I am sorry. And thank you."

He silently stared at her for a while. This made her tilt her head in confusion. Was he planning to scold her?

Although it was an accident, the fault was on her after all.

His gaze got her to shift her weight from one leg to another, not feeling comfortable. It was as though he attempted to see through her.

"Truly similar," he mumbled.

"Huh?"

Creases formed between both of her eyebrows.

"Be careful."

With those words, he was about to walk away when a voice called for him.

"Boss, where did you go off to?"

After that, a youthful man rushed into the section there were currently at.

"Found you. I was almost afraid that you left. Eh? Isn't this you, the runaway kid?"

Steven's eyes widened at recognition. A smile formed on his face while Evelyn scrunched up her nose.

What did he mean by the runaway child?

"What are you doing here alone? Did you run away again?" he teasingly asked as amusement shaded his voice.

Feeling the need to defend herself, Evelyn held up her head and proudly answered, "No, I am here with my mom."

"Do you have anything against the employees here?"

Confusion filled her eyes at it before he looked towards all the snacks that had gathered on the ground.

"That was a mistake."

She was about to get down to pick them up when he extended his hand towards her and stated, "You will get your clothes dirty like that. Let's get you a basket, alright? Boss, why don't you handle rest of the shopping on your own? The cart is there."

Before his boss could say anything in opposition, he walked away with the child in his hand. This made Evelyn comment, "Whoa! It's really high."

The only person she could recall being carried by was her mom, and the woman had a petite stature. According to the content in her brain, her father was supposed to be very tall.

How would it feel being carried by him?

She was brought out of her thoughts when Steven spoke, "Found it."

He smiled at her while picking up the cart. He then let go of her, setting her on her feet, and said, "Now, fill this up with all you want."

After that, he picked up everything she dropped on the floor. A smile played on Evelyn's face at being treated so kindly.

She decided that she liked Steven a lot.

Now that she had a basket, Evelyn didn't have an issue with choosing everything she wanted, and when she noticed that the basket had a lot to it, it got her to fall into a deep thought.

She pursed her lips into a line, seemingly contemplating.

"What's the matter with you now, Eve?" he questioned.

"What if my mom doesn't have enough money?" she asked with deep seriousness.

"That's indeed worrisome," he voiced out. Mirroring her expression, he used a concerned tone to suggest, "Why don't you ask your mom? I will get them for you if she can't. Don't be upset, alright?"

Evelyn was quick to shake her head at it.

"I will just choose less. I can't eat all this in the first place after all," Evelyn expressed.
