10 God's Helpers (2)

Iris nodded, understanding the concept. The point was clear—she would still take lives. The difference is that in her previous life, Eric was her boss, whereas now, her boss was God.

'Goodness! How could my life take such a twist?' Iris muttered to herself, momentarily forgetting that Gavriel could hear her inner voice.

"This is indeed a twist in your life, Iris," Gavriel admits. "But you should know that apart from your assigned task, you will also receive numerous benefits that will set you apart from other humans."

Gavriel's words lifted Iris's spirits, and a surge of excitement coursed through her veins. She straightened her back, feeling like her blood was boiling with anticipation.

"A benefit? What kind of benefit?" she eagerly asked.

"Each time you complete a mission, you will be presented with a choice of two rewards, from which you can choose one," Gavriel explained. He briefly paused as if thinking about something before swiftly adding, "And... all these rewards will be useful in the future. So the more missions you complete, the better!"

Iris nodded, recognizing the similarity to her past life, where she would receive substantial sums of money and felt stronger confidence every time she accomplished her missions.

'Money?'

Suddenly, something triggered her memory—the money and assets she had accumulated in her previous life. Who will inherit her wealth and possessions?

Curiosity welled up within her, as she had no family except for that wretched traitor, Eric.

Anger surged in her heart at the thought of that possibility.

'Will Eric be the one to inherit everything? If he lays his hands on my assets, I swear I'll take his life!' Iris's face darkened at the idea of her hard-earned fortune falling into the hands of her enemy.

She would not allow it!

"Iris Gray," Gavriel spoke slowly and clearly. "You cannot kill individuals who are not your designated targets. Severe consequences await those who do." He warned her after hearing her inner thoughts.

Though he sympathized with her and wished to assist, his hands were tied. As GH, they were forbidden from taking lives carelessly.

"I-I can't?" Iris couldn't believe what she was hearing. How could she let that despicable Eric live comfortably after what he had done to her?

"Well, you can, but only if that person is designated as your target. Otherwise, you are forbidden from laying a hand on them."

'What the hell! This is so unfair. How can I let that person escape their rightful fate? Eric deserved to enter hell! No, I will—' Iris abruptly halted her internal tirade, realizing that Gavriel could hear her innermost thoughts. How troublesome!

Gavriel closed his eyes and leaned back on the sofa, feeling drained by the young girl's thoughts. Pairing with her would prove exhausting. He contemplated annulling this task and sending her back to the Ivory Room to meet Old White.

After a long silence between them, Iris turned her gaze towards Gavriel. She noticed his legs moving slightly, indicating that he was pretending to sleep.

"Gavriel, are you sleeping?" Iris broke the silence, testing his response. When she saw his crossed legs shift, she continued, "How can I know what my mission is?" curiosity filled her voice.

In her previous life, she would receive notifications through a special app on her cell phone that only her guild members could access.

Gavriel's long, perfect lashes fluttered as he slowly opened his eyes. Sitting straight, he looked at Iris and replied, "You can check your tablet. I mean your cellphone..."

"Tablet? Which one?" Iris asked, puzzled. She was unaware of having a tablet.

"Cell phone in your hand," Gavriel lazily pointed toward Iris's hand. A thin black object resembling a smartphone appeared in Iris's palm instantly.

Speechless and shocked, Iris couldn't find the words to express her astonishment. She glanced at Gavriel as if wanting to ask him, but her words remained trapped in her mind. She realized she was dealing with a god. From this point forward, everything that would happen to her might seem absurd to other humans.

She began to observe the black object in her hand, trying to grow more accustomed to this extraordinary device. She had never seen a gadget like this before; the screen appeared flawless, and there was no visible charging port.

As she placed her finger on the screen, a stunning image of an angel with black wings instantly appeared. The resolution was remarkably sharp, and the angel appeared so lifelike that it seemed to be smiling at her.

A shiver ran down Iris's spine as she shifted her gaze back to Gavriel, feeling a sense of unease.

"You will receive notifications, similar to how you receive text messages on your cell phone." Gavriel patiently explained, guiding Iris through familiarizing herself with the device.

After a few minutes, Iris had mastered the operation of the cell phone.

"Gavriel, what if I lose this tool?" she asked, expressing concern about the possibility of theft or misplacement.

"That tablet will find its way back to you. And you don't need to worry about someone stealing it, as only you and the other GHs can see the gadget," Gavriel reassured her.

Iris nods.

Later, a thought crossed Iris's mind again, prompting her to ask, "Gavriel, what exactly are we? Angels?"

Gavriel chuckled in response, finding her question amusing.

"Hahaha, you wish!" he exclaimed. "Young girl, although your physical form is human, your soul is not. However, you are not an Angel either. Do not claim yourself as an angel since you are merely a HELPER, far beneath the angels."

"I see," Iris said with a bitter smile, lowering her head to gaze at her hand. She felt embarrassed knowing that Gavriel could read her inner thoughts.

"But," Gavriel's voice sounded again, causing Iris to raise her head slowly and meet his eyes. "With your dedication and completion of your mission, perhaps one day you will ascend to become an angel!"

Iris opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. However, her eyes gleamed with curiosity, silently urging Gavriel to explain further.
