1 Introduction

The town of Caliente is known as the least populated, incorporated town in Nevada. It is a pretty boring place to live in, but not for the Watson family. They have been living here for about 50 years now. Their youngest son, Lionel, or Leo as his family and friends call him, finds it a peaceful town, except that this fact is not so good for him. Currently, he is on his way to Caliente Middle, one of the two schools in the town.

"Me too!" exclaims Leo."I haven't done Mrs.Hover's homework too!"

"That's relieving,"says Sergio, his best friend."Honestly, I tried to do it, but it's too confusing. It took an hour for me to throw it away."

"That's good, Serg, but don't you think Mrs.Hover will screw us up?"asked Leo.

"Nah, she's kind enough."

"Yeah, I hope she-" but he was thrown away hard and hit the canteen wall.

"Watch it where you are going, dipshit!" It was Jeremy Taylor, a boy in Leo's grade who was also a big bully. He was a red-haired,pig-faced, huge boy who had been surprisingly passing every exam since third grade at Leo and Sergio's expense. Five years, and he had not changed a bit, except that he seemed bigger and bigger every minute.

"So, you did not give me the homework I asked for yesterday, idiot", he said to Leo as he stood up and cleaned his shirt.

"I, umm, had to do something yesterday", he said. Sergio nodded.

"Have you done it?", asked Jeremy with a furious expression.

"Here", said Sergio, handing a thick copy to Jeremy.

"Be on time next time, nitwits", Jeremy said and walked away with his cronies Bane and Rudolph on his sides, laughing.

"God, he's so annoying", said Leo, rubbing his jeans."By the way, what happened yesterday?", asked Sergio, with a curious expression. Leo's face was down now.

" She, uh, rejected me of course."

"Oh! Don't be sad man, she's Emma Shey, a girl whom every boy in the grade has asked out, except me of course." There was a pause. "Was she annoyed?"

"No, she was polite."

"That's good", said Sergio happily."You might have a second chance! Let's hurry now, we have a class to attend." They ran, but heard an announcement,

"All the students, please come to Hall no.2 for an assembly."

"Whoa", gasped Leo."There was some scientist coming today for a lecture, remember?"
