12 Years Earlier...

"Can I please get a doctor here? Hurry we can't lose her." A wavering and tired voice crocked out.

Hestia couldn't tell if she was awake, sleeping, or perhaps dying. She could not feel pain, she wanted to tell the voice she was okay and that they shouldn't worry but try as much to open her mouth no sound came out.

Her throat was sore, she tried opening her eyes but they felt heavy, and was afraid they'd close forever if she dared shut them so she fought to stay awake.

"I don't fucking care, get your private doctors, what kinda sicko goes on holidays when there could be emergencies like this" the same voice came out again and they sounded frustrated.

Frail hands reached out to clutch her weak palms and quiet sobs filled my ears. She could tell it was a little girl because her sobbing voice cried out to her, "You.....can't leave.. me...alone Esty....you..you... promised we'd get married." She choked out.

Her body was being carried and placed on an uncomfortable bed, it felt like the bed had huge lumps. She heard several voices but, couldn't exactly pinpoint who it was. She felt as though she was being pricked by needles in her arms.

She wanted to groan out in pain but remembering her sore throat she stopped herself. "We need to take her to the theater immediately, she has sustained a major head injury, and her limbs seem to be dislocated, Nurse Cohort inject her with the anesthesia so we can proceed, I will need you to sign these papers please agree to the surgery." A monotonous voice demanded.

The little girl laying on the bed could not believe what he said, dislocated limbs? A head injury? That would explain why she felt the heaviness of her head.

"Of course, give them to me I will sign everything I am her aunt" The woman glared at the doctor who seemed unaffected by the woman's stare. Probably having seen such looks from patients' families.

"No, we will need her mother or father to sign it or a legal guardian" The doctor suggested, his voice well controlled.

'Hello ....patient here in need of surgery, can't they see am in pain here.' The little girl thought.

"I said I will sign the papers now get her to the theater NOW!" The patients' aunt seethed.

The stretcher was rolled in hurriedly, her body kept bumping up and down. Could they be more careful!?

She snickered in her head. Behind her she could hear the little girl's voice, "I'll wait for you to get better Esty and if you die I'll kill you." Okay, she was a little insane to suggest killing her when she came to, but, it felt good to have someone waiting for her.

A bang! The door shut and all went quiet as the doctors mumbled among themselves. She didn't understand what was happening.

"Come on Cohort inject her now so we can be done with the surgery." That was the last thing she heard before darkness consumed her.

'Funny how life can change within a tick of a clock. Is this what death is? Being consumed by darkness and nothing to pull you out?' Hestia thought sadly.

How could her life be over before it even started?

Darkness! That is all she saw everywhere she glanced.

"Come on Esty wake up, I know you can hear me, please wake up" Little Athena pleaded, sobs raking her. She had been doing that for what, a year? Probably.

Hestia was getting tired of it. Who the hell is Esty? Athena kept referring to her sleeping figure, yet she was not aware of the identity.

'I wonder if it's her sister and she just confuses me with her. Yes, that must be it.' Hestia concluded.

She had been laying on the bed for a year now, the only thing supporting her life was the life-supporting machine plugged. She tried opening her heavy eyes but failed each time.

She feared they would unplug it and pronounce her dead.

'I might as well try to wake up...wait haven't I been trying that the past year? Perhaps I am destined to stay in this limbo...this darkness.' Hestia said in her thought.

'Oh well, I never give up so....here goes nothing.'

She tried to force her eyelids open but it proved harder by the minute. She was almost giving up.

'No no...you won't give up, you have to do this!'

She tried to move her arms a little and it must have worked because the little girl beside her bed squealed. Annoying and Loud! That was Hestia's first thought.

"Mom she just moved, get the doctors her hands moved, hurry" That's all it took to hear some feet shuffling and the doors bursting open.

"You said she moved?" Her doctor asked.

"Yes, she did. I was here with her." Replied little Athena. Hestia could not recognize her, not even her voice.

'Gee, I have got to give her a name...how about...' annoying chimp' Yeah that suits her she's annoying and sounds like some chipmunk.' She chuckled.

"Miss Hestia, if you can hear me please I would like you to try and open your eyes for me." The doctor instructed.

'If it was so easy I could you dimwitted soul. Don't you think I'm trying?'

Hestia wanted to scream out loud. She was getting frustrated and those people were calling her weird names. Guess only one way to find out who they are.

'Come on eyes don't fail me' She forced her eyes one more time to open.

'Come on...you can do it...oh and...Ugh!'

She wanted to scream out loud, too much light. She groaned shutting my eyes a little before squinting more to adjust to the horrible lighting in the room.

Finally, after all the darkness that surrounded her, she almost felt relieved glancing in the light. She squinted her eyes watching as all that surrounded her was white...wait...' Am I in heaven?... I thought we were done with this.'

"I knew she would wake up, I told you not to give up on her yet you wanted to unplug her off the machine" Hestia turned her head slightly in the direction of the screams and stared as a brunette jumped up and down shrieking excitedly.

How old is she? Was her first question, she looked almost fourteen or fifteen. Or thirteen. She could be wrong.

Wanting to ask her to stop with the noise and twirling because it was making her unsteady, she croaked out, she shut her mouth embarrassed, she sound like someone who had not spoken in years, rough, coarse voice.

Someone reached out plugged out the tube in her mouth gently and pulled her into a sitting position and guided a glass filled with water to her mouth. She instantly drained the whole glass before signaling that she wanted more.

"Now..now ..let's not drink a lot, you just woke up" She turned to the voice that sounded so familiar and caught a slightly short blonde woman in a coat, her doctor.

"Hello, I am your doctor, Dr. Lisa, and I am the one who operated on you a year ago, you have been in a coma since then. I am afraid you were injured pretty badly and needed a lot of stitches but we were able to repair your dislocated limbs and ensure less damage to your brain you might need some physiotherapy so we could get you walking again having not used your limbs for a while ..."

Hestia drown out all her explanations and only focused on...' ...in a coma for a year.' She did not even know who she was or what happened.

"Miss...Miss..." She turned to the voice. "Pardon me am simply asking where you're feeling pain..."

"My head...it...hurts a lot" She mumbled.

"That's quite normal and Nurse Cohort will give you some drugs to relieve your pain," Dr. Lisa said.

She still couldn't wrap her head around all the information. She scanned the room and her eyes landed on the brunette that seemed to always be with her. Reading her stories and telling her about her day in school.

Beside her was a woman, not a day over thirty, and a tall blonde man. The girl sure did have all her mother's traits from her brunette hair to her pointed nose. Hestia assumed they were a family.

'But what are they doing here? I don't even know them at all.' Hestia thought.

"Who are you, people?" She managed to croak out, her voice still hoarse while her throat hurt.

The brunette hung her jaw open as if shocked by what she had asked. Her parents had the same reaction and she was starting to feel extremely uncomfortable.

"Doctor, why doesn't she recall us? We are her friends. Family is more like it."

"I am afraid she might have lost her memory, part of her brain was damaged during the impact with the car causing her to forget about herself and since she's been in a coma for a year she'll need some time to recover." Doctor Lisa sounded calm explaining while Hestia was freaking out on the inside.
