Chapter 4: Learning About The World

Perseus POV

So for today, I get to go visit my grandparents on mom Rylee's side for probable therapy because they're actually and genuinely concern with the fact that they also want me to get a chance to know them since they barely get to see each other these days because my grandfather is a very busy man.

"Nice to see you again, little twerp." Grandpa Wager hugged the lungs out of me the moment we met "How's your mana training? You're probably the youngest person ever to think of to train their mana from such a young age, it's very dangerous."

Yeah, I'm training my mana ahead of everyone else, even the greatest geniuses in history start at about the age of 8 or 9 due to it being better in the long run, starting at that age maximizes magic longevity. But I'm taking chances as a protagonist for granted alright.

Grandpa Wager Halgin looks to be in his late 50s, is about 174cm tall, he has brown skin, black hair, and brown eyes. His wife, grandma Lynda is about the same age, she is about 159 cm tall, has light brown skin, hazelnut eyes, and black hair.

"Dad, he's training in every method apart from the dance of dedication, he does do it our of reluctance, but that's not going to help." Mom Rylee chimed in "We need your help into at least convincing him that it's not even embarrassing, kids would practice it in public, and even if they are failing it badly, no one would shame them, if anything, encourage them."

We got inside and talked a bit with Grandma Lynda(I know, such a grandma name.), overall I had a wonderful time finding a quiet time to stay alone and being excluded from conversations as I eat a lot of cookies, which also concern my parents, it's that I prefer being alone than making friends.

I am a more conservative people with a somewhat expressive personality, but even if I want friends, kids are just too immature for me, can't make friends with adults either cuz I'm too young for em.

I was then called to the living room.

"Perseus, why don't you join a class that your grandmother is holding?" Grandma Lynda suggested

"Is it cooking class? Because these caramel cookies are awesome, the secret ingredient is just extra salt, isn't it?"

"Wow, what I wouldn't do to make you my child instead of Rylee, it took her 20 years to figure that out." she praised "I would teach you my mother's cooking another time, but I'm hosting a class for the dance of dedication with about a dozen kids your age, their parents are also joining in."

"Uh, yeah, social interactions, I'd rather not."

"Everyone is pitching in for a feast, we got brownies, and roasted meats. I remember one saying that they will also bring several rack of ribs, enough to feed every adult a rack each."

"Alright, I'm in, what time is it?"

"See." she turned to my moms "He just need a rewards, it's not wrong to spoil him with unhealthy food every once in a while. Perseus, if you're good, I'll gift you 2 batches of cookies to go back home with."

Now we're talking, this tradition is so deeply ingrained within their minds anyway, I would be forced to at least memorize every step regardless, might as well be rewarded now for my future suffering.

*****

It seems that it was inevitable that I had to join this gathering anyway, I want to learn more about this world, I don't just want to live and waste my life away here, a great place to retire, but I need to explore the world before I do. I'm not usually allowed to read the more complicated books at home since my parent prioritize the tradition over those books since I'm already smarter than kids my own age.

At this gather, we gather at another person's house since they got a big house enough to house all of us, and a platform strong enough on the bigger parts of a branch. I borrowed one of their books about this world and read it in the corner while everyone is socializing.

I need to learn more about the rose.

Based on what previous owners and current owners of the blessed roses described, each rose have a guardian, you can't just pluck the flower and get the power, in order to pluck it, you need to prove yourself worthy to the guardian or find someway to convince the guardian to let you pluck the flower. If you managed to do so, you are given the titled as a 'lord'.

And so far, the rose powers can be passed from one person to another, which the person then can possess its powers. But the rose guardian must also approve the new possessor. You can't steal it forcefully through any ritual, so torturing a blessed will not work since the rose guardian can just choose to be reborn somewhere else.

If a lord were to die before they could pass on the power, the rose would be reborn somewhere else with no way of recollecting the memory of being with the previous lord.

The rose guardians can also choose to die with the owner if they choose to, but none have chosen to do so till...I can't believe this...till the demon lord is eliminated, the roses' powers are still needed until then.

Funnily enough...the blue rose...

'The location of the blue rose is only known amongst the people of the Paradis Tree, though not a lot of information were given, it is said that their people have to win a certain traditional competition for a chance at the rose, but ultimately since no lords have been proven to possess it, meaning that the blue rose guardian have not approved of their chosen one.'

I read a bit more and even though not a lot was known, it was told by one of the previous chiefs that it is nearby, but no one has found it as the people of the tree has never given that information up.

"So the blue rose is nearby..."

"So you can read such a thick book after all." I looked up to see mom Nyra who then crouched down "Are you learning to read against our advices?"
