1 Chapter 1

I'm back everyone!!! Thank you for your patience and kind words. So I have spent a long time wondering what I was going to do with this novel. After taking a much needed break I started picking apart and fixing some things about the novel. If their are any major mistakes just comment on the paragraph so I can see it. I will no longer be sticking to any upload schedule for releases as it gave me so much stress. Again, thank you for your encouragement. Stay awesome!

"Augh! My head. I need to stop drinking so much."

Sam slowly sits himself up from his bed. His head pounding from drinking too much last night. He rubs his eyes before looking around. The bedroom he is in looks like it's straight out of Lord of the Rings. Wood walls, a thatch roof, and no technology in sight. He gets up from the straw bed he was laying on and stumbles his way towards the door.

"Where the hell am I? Did someone kidnap me in my sleep? If so, they were stupid to leave me unbound."

As he slowly walks down the stairs, hearing every creak and groan as the wooden stairs protest against his steps, he finishes his descent. Beyond the stairs he finds a living room reminiscent of the medieval times. Poorly carved wooden chairs surround a small table. Plates with a meager amount of food lay waiting to be eaten. An elderly man sits at the head of the table eating quietly. He turns his head towards Sam when he enters.

"It's about time you woke up Eragon. Sit down and eat. Once you're done, go to the garden and start plucking the weeds."

Sam looks behind him hoping that the man is talking to someone else. Finding no one, he sighs before walking over and sitting down. He looks down at his plate for a moment before eating in silence. His headache clears up considerably once he gets something in his stomach. After he finishes eating, he gets up and walks towards what he hopes is the front door. His mind is racing trying to figure out what is happening but he finds that it's just easier to go with the flow before coming to conclusions. He walks outside and sees a forest surrounding the house and a large garden to his right.

"Wow... This looks just like Eragon's house in Carvahall from the movie. I'm really here, in the world of Eragon inside Eragon's body. What the hell happened to get me into this scenario? I must have died or something unless this is a very vivid dream."

He slaps himself quite hard.

"Nope. This is real… Well, I guess I'll just go with it for now. My knowledge of the books should come in handy. I really wish I had memorized the ancient language now. At least I can remember a few words… Hopefully it will be enough to kick start my magic training. I need to be both physically and magically stronger before Saphira's egg appears. The good news is that the spell Arya uses will send it to me wherever I am so I don't have to scour the woods looking for it."

Eragon cracks his neck. "Well... I better start working before Garrow comes out to inspect my work. These weeds aren't going to pluck themselves."

Eragon grabs some tools from a shed and gets to work. He spends the rest of the day doing the chores that his uncle Garrow tells him. It's well past midday before he finishes. Garrow, satisfied with his work, tells Eragon he has the rest of the day off. Eragon quickly heads up to his room to gather his bow and quiver. He tells his uncle he is going to practice his archery before making his way into the forest. After getting a good fifteen minutes of brisk walking from the house, he searches for a small stone so he can begin attempting to unlock his magic. Finding one, he places it in his palm and calms his mind.

"Stenr Reisa" (stone raise).

The stone in his hand stays still. Eragon focuses his mind, trying to find that barrier in his mind that is mentioned in the books that he needs to get past to use his magic. It takes him over three hours before he finds it. A small kernel of energy in his mindscape surrounded by a tough outer layer. He focuses his willpower before jabbing into it. The outer layer resists for a moment before breaking. With clear intentions, Eragon says the words again and the stone lifts from his palm a few inches, hangs in the air for a second, then falls back down. He retracts his mind from the energy and examines his body for signs of fatigue.

"I definitely feel a small energy drain but I was expecting to be exhausted from just that. Maybe I'm more powerful than the original Eragon because of the reincarnation?" He shrugs his shoulders. "There really is no way to tell at the moment. Let's continue until I'm tired then head home."

Eragon continues his training till the sun starts to fade from the horizon. He makes it back home and finds Roran and Garrow eating supper. He sits down and enjoys eating supper with his family. Something the previous him never could. That thought brings down Eragon's mood slightly so he finishes quickly and heads off to bed. As he lays back in his bed, he thinks about all that happens in the beginning of the first book. He contemplates how he is going to proceed moving forward.

"Hmmm… I need more words from the ancient language. I could advance by leaps and bounds with the right words, like making myself heavier to make physical training more effective. With the help of the knowledge from my previous world, I could easily become a master of magic. And that's without even being a rider. Then I need to train my mind defenses."

"Once I bond with Saphira, my magic reserves will increase exponentially. Until then… I kind of want to confront Brom. It would definitely shock him that I know he is my father. Or I could just ask him for some words in the ancient language. He might get suspicious of me asking and "stumble" upon me training. He would definitely take over my training if he found out. Though that might not be a bad thing…"

Eragon lays on his side with an elbow propping his head up. "Before that, let's get acclimated to the world. Without Eragon's memories, it will be a bit of a pain to figure out where everything is. I also won't know about any past deals or friendships. Someone might find out that I'm not acting like myself if I'm not careful. Well let's just go to sleep and see what happens from here on out."

…

Waking up the next morning, Eragon devours his breakfast before getting back to work in the garden. Judging from the fruits and vegetables growing and the vivid green leaves on the trees he can accurately estimate that summer is in full swing. He remembers that the egg appears right before winter starts to set in so he has somewhere around four to six months to prepare.

Once he is done with his chores for the day, he starts acclimating himself into his new life. He needs to gather as much information as possible so as to not embarrass himself when someone asks him about something he definitely should know and then he can't answer. He makes a layout of the farm in his mind, filling it with all the details he can. Once he is done for the day, he heads up to his room and practices his magic quietly before falling asleep once more.

…

Eragon spends the next two weeks helping around the farm, gathering knowledge of the surrounding area, and training his body and magic, this training already bearing fruit. The baby fat around his face has mostly disappeared. His muscles are toned but not too bulky with a very appealing six pack if he says so himself. Luckily for him, the former Eragon was already quite fit, but adding his knowledge of cardio and exercise into the mix gave wondrous results.

His magic reserves have also increased at a rapid pace. What once would use up an hour's worth of energy now just leaves a small aching feeling for a few minutes. His training hasn't gone unnoticed by his uncle and Roran.

At the diner table, Eragon had just finished wolfing down his food and was going to go train in the woods again when Garrow spoke up.

"Stay a moment, won't you Eragon?"

Puzzled, Eragon sits back down and looks at him with an attentive expression. "What is it, Garrow?"

Garrow looks him dead in the eye. "You have changed over the past two weeks. You don't complain about work, you eat your meals quickly and quietly, then you just head off into the woods every chance you get. What have you been up to?"

Eragon wipes some sweat from his brow, slightly nervous about Garrow finding out that he has no memory of the past fifteen years. "I have been training… My archery has improved by leaps and bounds and I have packed on some more muscle, giving me a lot more confidence. I've also realized that the life I've been given is a gift and I'm going to make the most of it."

Garrow nods his head in acceptance. "The young boy is finally growing up. You make me proud, the both of you." Garrow turns to Roran. "When do you plan on proposing to Katrina, Roran?"

Roran, who was busy eating, accidentally inhales his food, causing him to choke and gag uncontrollably. His face starts to turn purple before he grabs the nearby water pitcher and starts drinking with gusto. He nearly downs the whole thing before slamming it on the table and taking a few deep breaths between coughing fits. Once color returns to his face he glares at Garrow.

"One, how did you know? Two, you nearly killed me just then. Next time warn me if you're going to spill my secrets."

Garrow chuckles. "Most of the town knows about your advances towards the lass, though most pity you for choosing the daughter of Sloan. He will not give up his daughter to the likes of you very easily, you will need a substantial amount of gold or a farm to call your own to convince him, and even then, he might just have her wed to some wealthy merchant well before you are ready to propose."

Roran looks down, a look of sadness and contemplation on his face. "I know he would never accept me… That's why I was planning on working for horst or getting a job down in Therinsford, but I also know that you need help here at the farm."

Garrow nods his head slightly. "I see no problem in that. I still have Eragon here to hold down the fort, and I've known for a long time that I couldn't keep you here forever. You have my permission to start finding a job. You're a man now, go out there and make me prouder than I already am."

Roran nods, a glint of happiness and determination in his eyes. "I won't let you down father."

Eragon watches the two from the other side of the table, a contemplative look in his eyes. "I don't remember this happening in the novel… Is this the butterfly effect in action? Have I already distorted the original flow of the story so quickly?" Eragon says to himself, a mild hint of worry about the future causing him to purse his lips.

As he is thinking to himself, Roran turns to Eragon. "What about you Cousin? What do you have in mind for the future?"

Startled out of his thoughts, Eragon tries to think of something. "Well I… I haven't really thought about it yet. I've been so busy training my body and archery skills that I just haven't had the time to think that far." Eragon stops for a moment, tilting his head and looking nowhere. "I guess I should keep the farm in tip top shape until you come back. If I do a good enough job, maybe it will help you win Sloan over. Then again… Maybe it would be best to hunt more game, showing that we will have plenty of food for the winter."

Roran's eyes tear up, not expecting his cousin to go that far to help him. He stands up and walks around the table, wrapping his arm around his head. "Now who said you have to worry about me, eh? I'm older than you, so I can handle my own fights." Roran ruffles Eragon's hair. "You just keep working hard and you will eventually find your destiny."

Eragon wiggles around, trying to free himself from Roran's grasp. Roran chuckles as he lets him go. Eragon smooths out his hair indignantly. "You're going to need to pack on some more muscles, Roran, you will pass out from overexertion in a forge with those pathetic arms. Want to join me in my training when you have any free time?"

Roran, hearing the playfulness in his voice, releases the anger that was building up by exhaling and shaking his head. "Who are you calling weak? I guess I will have to take you up on that offer."
