14 Why was he again here?

There was a very particular significance of dark nights, they don't pass very soon. At least not until it scares someone.

And today's night was one of such dark nights for Yun Meiyi. She has been suffering. In the darkness of some room, she was feeling lost.

Darkness was one of the things that scared her the most and today, other than that one fear, she was enveloped with nothing.

Feeling scared, she looked around in search of light but no matter wherever she saw, except for blackness, nothing came into her vision.

Looking for a while suddenly at a corner, she saw her adoptive parents. They were standing and looking at her with sad smiles. Finding them there for her, she felt her heart once again getting warmed up but just when she took a step forward to rush to them, she saw them closing the door in her face as if she was not someone, they knew but a stranger.

She felt a tear rolling down her eyes but before she could even get over the pain of abandonment she was feeling in her heart, from the corner of her eyes, she caught the glimpse of an old figure standing on the other side. Clearing up her blurry gaze, it didn't take her long to realize who was the old man.

"Grandpa!" She called out and the next moment, standing up she rushed forward to him. Unlike her adoptive parents, he didn't shut her away but rather smiled at her before reaching to pat her cheeks.

"Silly child, why are you crying so much? I am just going away to enjoy some years abroad, while you can enjoy your time here with the family and father, from whom you have already stayed away for so many years. You know now that you are here, he would love you dearly."

The old man said and Yun Meiyi shook her head profusely. Crying out her sorrowful tears, she said, "No, grandpa, you don't know anything. They don't love me. Father would never accept me. Please don't leave me behind. Please don't." She urged but no matter how she cried, the old man heard nothing.

Removing her hands, he just let her be on her own before turning and walking away. "YiYi, I wish you a good future. Cherish it. Remember, you would always have my blessing. Call me whenever you remember me, okay?" He said and once again Yun Meiyi shattered on the floor, crying over her lack of expression. Only if she had been able to express her loneliness to her grandfather better, maybe he wouldn't have left her here alone like that.

Yun Meiyi regretted her incapability when she saw the figure of her father appearing from the darkness. Her eyes blinked at him but she didn't dare to get up to get near him. As if she already knew that the man would never be there to console her and she was not wrong to think that way as the next second, she heard him spat out venomously.

"You are just like your mother. You don't deserve to be in between us. I don't understand why father even brought you back. It was good enough that you were surviving somewhere far from us. At least your taints would not been near to smear our name."

He said, and his such cruel attitude only made her feel more worthless from inside. The pain in her heart doubled. As she looked at her father with a tear-stricken face, she saw Yun Jiaqi's mom appear with a cunning, wicked smile on her lips. She reached out to hold his shoulders to say, "Yi Xuan, don't get angry. She is still your daughter. Even if she is not capable of bringing glory to our family, you still depend on Jiaqi. She is better than her. She would make you feel proud."

Yun Meiyi looked at her father. Even though she didn't expect much from him, she expected him to retort at that one point. After all, the world couldn't be blind to not see her efforts to become perfect for her family.

But the retort she was looking for never came. And Yun Meiyi once again saw her father secretly agreeing to the words of the woman. Soon the couple also disappeared into the darkness, only to leave Yun Jiaqi and Su Yang to flash on the other side of the blackness. They didn't say anything but the mockery and disdainfulness they held in their gazes was enough to make Meiyi feel the clench of her heart.

These were the people for whom she cared all her life but never saw them reciprocating. Why did she waste her life on them when in return she had to get nothing but this stream of disappointment?

She was mourning over her pains and sorrows when from a distance, she heard a very familiar voice from her memory. "Marry me!"

She looked up and there he was standing amidst darkness again. Around him, the blackness was more than what she had seen around others. "You …"

"Even when you would have no one in this world., you would have me." He said again as stepping forward to her, he extended out his hand to her. Although once again his face wasn't clear, his voice was very original in her memories.

Yun Meiyi looked up at him with some enchantment. Something inside her told her to believe him but at the same time, a voice from the corner of her heart warned her against it.

Although he had looks that could overpower anyone's heart, there was also something in his fiery golden eyes that was enough to make anyone cower behind to the farthest corner. It was like temptation was luring her while rationality was keeping her right senses awake.

But wait, why was he here again? Didn't she already make it clear to him that she wasn't anywhere getting married to him?

"You? Why are you here? Isn't this my personal space where only people whom I allow could enter?" She asked with a frown.

To which, the man smirked to say, "Wasn't it you who called me here?"
