Chapter 16: Jeepney

There must be some kind of inauguration, recognition ceremony, or military parade. I don’t think the General just goes out for a stroll, or to the theatre, or to carnivals.

I think he just wanted to show me off to other soldiers that I’m still going to happily marry him even if I snuck out with his Lieutenant a few nights ago. I know that word travels fast especially if there’s a hint of scandal in its narrative.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“Put on some decent clothes and get ready in fifteen minutes,” he answers.

Fifteen minutes? A lady doesn’t get ready in fifteen minutes!

It will take me around thirty minutes to an hour just to get ready. Runi does my hair for ten minutes then my make-up for twenty minutes or so…Oh yeah, I forgot that I am transacting with a military man. Time is always compressed. Time is always regarded.

“Fifteen minutes?” I asked.

“Yes. I’ll see you by zero six twenty.”
