I just managed to sit up in search of a blanket, but I found I had already been covered by one. My second prerogative was to see if the stranger was okay, of course, but I could already guess what happened.

He wasn't unconscious, however. Just laying there, eyes dark and wide.

When he continued to lay there past the point I thought it was normal, not even blinking much, I dared to slip out a leg from the covers and poke him with a toe, because someone had kidnapped my boots. At least my dress top had been sewn up, if roughly so, in order to preserve my privacy.

The poke somehow kicked him back to life. He blinked several times at me.

"I have no energy," he said, rather breathlessly.

I frowned. Not sure if he said that to me or to himself, because even though he looked right at me, I couldn't be sure he actually saw me.

Despite such a statement, he sat up, albeit slowly. A wobbly, crazed sort of grin wiggled his mouth.
