Chapter 74

Before getting out of my bedroom, I need to ensure that Lymsleia will survive, and when I see I don't need to protect her, I quickly cast an invisible spell and get out of my room. I quickly and silently run through the corridor.

I can see a lot of Nether Gate assassins in this palace. By a vision alone, I can see there are at least forty to fifty of them—twenty on the rooftop and thirty moving to the throne room. I can see a lot of corpses on the floor. They are the corpses of the palace guard.

I ignore them for now and quickly run toward where Sialeeds and Freyjadour sleep. After a few seconds of running, I arrived near their room. However, to my surprise, Sialeeds, Freyjadour, and Lyon were already in front of the house, safe.

I quickly dispel my invisible spell and see them point their weapon at me.

"Woah! Woah! It's me, Jacob."

"Jacob! You are okay!"

I smile at the prince and say.

"I'm doing fine, Frey. A bit annoyed when five assassins try to stab me when I sleep but I'm doing fine."

"You too, huh?"

I look at Sialeeds and nod my head.

"That means you too have an annoying bug trying to kill you?"

"Yes. Three of them. It Takes a bit of time to kill but I manage to kill them."

"I see. What should we do now?"

"If those people are already this deep into the palace, that means the palace has been surrounded. We need to help Arshtat and the others!"

"Very well. Let's go!"

However, before we could walk away, I quickly stopped them from stepping further as a dozen throwing knives stabbed the ground. A second later, I can see two people walk toward us. They are Dolph and Childerich.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Our target managed to survive. Moreover, they did not run away! How lucky we are. We can finish the mission in one final swoop."

I let the others have their banter. It was like in the canon. Dolph reveals his real name, and he reveals that Lyon is a former member of the Nether Gate Assassin corps. After a minute of talking, I can see Childerich gets annoyed and says,

"Enough of this talk and start killing!"

He charges forward with his hidden blade shown. I quickly dash and block his attack.

"Kekekeke! Jacob! Let me pay for what you have done to me! Ten fold!"

I grunt a little at his strength. It was ten times stronger than before! What the hell?! How?!

"Kekekeke! How is it?! How is the taste of my new power?! Kekekeke!"

Does he consume some kind of drug? I remember the game showing that all Nether Gate Assassins were given something called Berserker Pill. It was a pill that increased the user's power ten times in exchange for their sanity. The more they consume it, the more they lose their sanity.

I push him away and take out my wand.

"Avada Kedavra!"

A fast green light hit Childerich; to my surprise, he was still standing there.

"Kekekeke! Your magic cannot penetrate my armor! After watching you fight, I already prepare the most powerful armor to block your magic! Only the most powerful rune can penetrate this armor!"

That includes a Killing Curse, huh? The only more powerful spell that I know from the Harry Potter world is Fiendfyre, and I don't know if it was a good idea to use it in this cramped place. That only leaves me with a physical attack, huh? So be it.

I snap from my thoughts when I see Kyle appear out of nowhere and kick Childerich. To the side, I can see a massive man holding a halberd in his hand throw Dolph away. I think this man is called…

"Zegai! Kyle!"

Right, Zegai. He is one of the most powerful participants in the Sacred Games. If only he were not framed as a spy, I would have had a hard time fighting him.

After kicking Childerich, Kyle quickly raises his right hand and activates his rune.

"Fog of Deception!"

After he says that, a thick mist appears and covers the entire area, where Kyle quickly carries Freyjadour. Seeing him move, I quickly carry Sialeeds and follow him to one of the armories of the Queen's Knight.

I put down Sialeeds as she looked at Kyle and Zegai.

"You saved us, Kyle, Zegai."

"Sorry it took us so long."

"Never mind that! What's the situation?!"

"It's not good. The enemy is unnaturally strong, and much more powerful than our guards. Our defense is completely shattered. I might not have made it here if I hadn't gotten help from Zegai. Where could Lord Godwin find these kinds of soldiers?"

Lyon walks forward and says.

"They are… they are a Nether Gate's member. I'm positive about it."

"Impossible! Arshtat make sure to disband all of them."

"It is true, Lady Sialeeds. I know for sure that Lord Godwin takes them secretly and makes sure they continue to exist."

"That must be not true! Nether Gate killed Gizel's mother, Lord Godwin's wife! They have been a mortal enemy ever since and you said that Godwin has had the Nether Gate on his side for eight years?"

"Yes, I am."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I-I will tell you all later. I promise and swear it on my name."

I can see the others look at her for a few seconds before nodding their heads. Only the Prince trusts Lyon completely, even after the revelation that Lyon might be one of them in the past.

"Thank you. For now we need to get out of here! Prince, come on!"

"But I cannot leave Mother and Lym alone!"

"Prince! The Nether Gate priority is to get your blood! We cannot let them get it."

Seeing the prince's expression, Kyle walked toward Freyjadour and put both his hands on the prince's shoulders.

"Prince, you have to understand. You have to protect your bloodline. That means fleeing on time like this, even if you want to stay and fight. You'll have to let us do our, and protect your family at any cost. I'll find her majesty and the princess. You and Lady Sialeeds better run, now! Is that alright with you, Lady Sialeeds?"

Sialeeds looks at Kyle for a few seconds before nodding her head in sadness.

"Yes. Please take care of Arshtat and Lym…."

"I won't let you down."

After saying that, Kyle looked at Lyon and me.

"Lyon. Sir Jacob. I'm leaving the prince and Lady Sialeeds' safety in your hands."

"Alright! I'd better see you again, Kyle."

Kyle nodded at her and looked at me. When his eyes land on me, I give him a smirk and say.

"You know that I'm your superior, right? You can't just give me an order~."

"Heh. That might be true, but I'm your senior, and this is an order from a senior."

"Hah! Very well. I will see you later, senior!"

Kyle nods his head and looks at Zegai standing next to him.

"Zegai, will you come with them?"

"I'd rather stay here. There are more fights in this place."

"I know, but please. I'd feel much better if I knew you were with them."

"Fine."

"Thank you, big man."

Kyle takes out his sword and takes a deep breath.

"Then wait here for a few minutes. It will be a great distraction. When you don't hear anything, you need to get out of here."

After saying that, he got out of the room. A few seconds later, I could hear his voice in the distance saying many swear words. We continue to wait for a minute or two before I decide it is time to get out.

However, when we got out, I could hear the sound of footsteps coming from the right. I take out my sword and point in that direction. To our surprise, it was Georg.

"Georg?!"

Lyon said in surprise. The older man looks at us and says,

"You guys… What the hell are you guys still doing here?!"

Sialeeds walks forward and says.

"What about you? Aren't you supposed to be with Arshtat and Ferid?"

I can see Georg's face change into sadness and grief before turning away.

"The Queen… and Ferid… They are dead…"

"What?! No! How can that be?! Georg! You are with them! How?!"

"I'm sorry…."

Just like that, the dam has broken. Sialeeds and Freyjadour start to cry.

"It is not time to grieve, I'm sorry. The Sun Palace is about to fall. You need to get out of here!"

Sialeeds wipe the tear from her eyes and look at Georg with a frown on her face.

"With Arshtat dead, the Sun Rune will get back to the Sealed Room! We cannot let Godwin have the rune! It will be a disaster! That rune can bring down the entire continent in a day! We cannot let him have that kind of power!"

"You don't need to worry. Kyle is already on it, he already runs to the sealed room and tries to block Godwin from reaching that place."

Georg then looked at us before saying.

"All of you need to concentrate on getting away from this place."

"W-What about Lym? What about my sister?!"

Georg looks at the prince and says.

"You don't need to worry. Galleon and Miakis are with her."

"No! I have to at least save Lym!"

I quickly take a step and hold him down. I can see anger on his face, but I continue to hold him down.

"No, Frey. We need to get out of here. I have a feeling Lym will be okay and Godwin will not dare to touch her."

"What?"

"He is right."

Georg suddenly says.

"I don't like to put it like this but Lyn is already safe. Godwin wants to put Lym as a figurehead queen that they can control. As much as they want to be the king of this country, a lot of nobles will rebel against a sudden change of ruler. The fact that they attack now is proof of that. They will use Jacob's name as the one that tries to manipulate Lym and the one killing the Queen so the northern country can control this country."

"But that does not make any sense!"

"Yes. However, Godwin is powerful enough to sway a lot of nobles in this country. Because of this, they will not and cannot harm her. On the other hand, they'd love to kill the three of you: The prince, Lady Sialeeds and Lord Commander Jacob. With the three of you dead, they will be hailed as a hero and can control this country without any obstacle."

"That's right!"

Lyon suddenly shouted and looked at Frey with determination in her eyes.

"The Princess already lost both her mother and father. I cannot let her lose the three of you."

Freyjadour looked at the floor for a few seconds before suddenly screaming.

"DAMMIT! DAMMIT!"

He continued to scream for a few seconds before finally wiping the tear away from his eyes.

"Very well. I will live and continue to fight. I will save Lym another day."

I smile at Frey and pat his head.

"Good. Come on."

Sialeeds looks at her nephew in sadness and says.

"There is a hidden escape route nearby. Come on."

Sialeeds leads us to a dead end where she presses the brick on the wall to open up a secret passage. We walk through the secret passage and see the door closing up. However, before we walk away, I decide to stay for a moment.

"Jacob?"

"Wait a second. I will cast some curses and jinx on the door. We cannot let them find us."

"Don't."

Georg stopped me before I could cast my magic.

"They will track your magic signature. When I was fighting them in the throne room, I saw them bringing a magic tracking device. We don't want them to know this passage."

"Hmmm, you are right. Very well."

We continue to follow the corridor and arrive at a hidden dock where I can see a rowing boat waiting for us.

"A boat?"

"Yeah. This is the hidden boat that can be used as emergency transport. We will be the first ones to use this boat."

I nod at Sialeeds answer and let them get on the boat. I take one of the paddlers while Georg takes the other. After a few minutes of rowing, we are already far away from the Sun Palace. While rowing, a pillar of light appears on top of the Sun Palace.

"That light…"

I can see Sialeeds start to cry once again.

"That is the Sun Rune. It is returning to the Sealed Room… That means… Oh… Arshtat…"

Zegai walked toward me and looked me in the eyes. I nod my head and give him the paddle before walking toward Sialeeds. I hug her tightly and let her cry as we continue to run away from the Sun Palace.
