Queen of the Night

What if I told you that the world we think we know is a lie? What if beyond the mundane everyday life that we live there is another life. A world of darkness, of myths and legends that our parents used to frighten us into behaving as children? What if everything were real?

The Queen's Message

'We coose to ignore the things we deem insignificant, but when those insignificant things threaten what is most precious to us, we choose to eliminate them without hesitation.'

"You know me?" I asked.

"It's not that I know you, but how should I put this?" He hesitated, but then continued. "The truth is ever since I can remember, you've appeared in my dreams randomly on the verge of crying. I know it sounds wierd but I swear it's true."

"It's not wierd," I said but paused as I deflected the attack aimed at him from behind hiding the action by placing my other hand on his face. "Sleep, sleep and remember." As he fell asleep I shifted him to the bench and faced the assailant. She was a member of the Wolf Clan, they had been acting more and more reckless recently but never had one acted so brazenly infront of me after the last warning I sent them. This Wolf Clan member maintained a partially human appearance, meaning she was sent with a message to deliver and wasn't ordered to attack. "If you were sent as a messenger, why did you attack?"

"Have you gone senile with your age? Wasn't it you who killed my mate for a mere human child?" Her voice came out in growls as her body shivered on the verge of fully shifting into her wolf form.

"So you thought to take revenge for your mate, yet you waited this long to act? You still didn't answer my question though, why did you attack him instead of me?"

"I'm not foolish enough to think I can kill you, but killing someone in front of you is well within my capabilities. I have no clue who this human is, but since you've allowed him to stand in your pressence he must have some small significance to you."

"Foolish dog... Your stupidity will be the death of you, now tell me what message did your Clan Elder send you here with?"

"The Elder told me to say 'the Wolf Clan will part ways with the Queen since the Queen dishonored us by refusing to inspect potential suitors from our clan.' That is all he wished for me to convey."

"Ha ha ha." I couldn't help but laugh. The Wolf Clan that begged to follow me ages ago now wished to sever ties. They wanted to leave just because of some misconception that I disrespected them due to not meeting meeting the muts they picked out to try to woo me. I admit if it had been before I met him, I might have atleast entertained the possibility, but I found my destined partner, why would I still need to meet suitors that my followers prepared? "So all they wanted was to go their own way. All you had to do was come and give me the message and that would have been the end of it. I never wanted to lead, I never forced any of the clans to follow me. I could have let you return to them with my acceptance, but now I need to find a new messanger to deliver my answer because you will never leave this place."

"What do you mean?" The foolish dog asked the fear plain on her somewhat human face.

"That man you tried to kill in front of me is no mere human. He is my destined partner, linked to me, forced to be reborn countless times waiting for me to find him. I had already found him again which is why I didn't inspect the youth from your clan. Your stupid mate nearly killed him years ago and paid the price for it, just as you will pay the price for attempting to kill him today. Just because he will be reborn again doesn't mean I will let even a strand of his hair be harmed when he is alive and well. Every second I get with him is an escape from this living hell that I'm forced to face. My time with him this time around was already interrupted due to his near death last time, I had to distance myself from him so that he would be able to grow up. Yet the day I reunited with him you try to take him from me? Your sin is unforgivable! May your soul burn in hell." I raised my hand and her body burst into flames and burning to nothing in seconds, not even ash remained. "Charles!" I shouted, then waited for him to appear.

"Yes my Queen?" Charles bowed as he appeared before me.

"Who was guarding the eastern approach?"

"I'm not sure, I will find out at once."

"Give them a strict punishment, a dog nearly harmed my lover. Also send a messenger to the Wolf Clan, tell them their request shall be granted, they are no longer under my protection. Also, remind them if they wish to communicate in the future, send a smarter messenger, the one they sent is dead for crossing my bottom line. I will not punish their clan this time, but this is the last time I let them off. There will be no next time."

"Understood my Queen, will that be all?"

"Yes... Wait, handle the resignations of you, James, and my lover, it is time we return home."

"Very well my Queen, I'll see to your orders right away." Charles bowed again and left.

I walked over to the bench and adjusted my lover so that his head rested in my lap and cupped his face with my hand stroking his cheek with my thumb. "Why is everything going so differently this time around? Why were you the one to find me first? Normally we don't meet until you're already an adult. I'm afraid of what these changes mean for our future. Please Father, let our time together be longer this time."

After sitting in silence for awhile my lover started to show signs of waking up. His eyes opened slowly and he called out to me,"Big Sis?"

"You remember?" I asked as continued to stroke his cheek cheek.

"A little bit, I think. Did your king ever find you?"

"He has," I replied and smiled.

He tensed up and spoke, "then you don't need me as a backup anymore?"

"Backup? What silly thoughts are running through your head? If you remembered that day, you should remember the promise I made you. You are my king, no one else."

"Then where have you been all this time? How come I couldn't remember you at all? Why haven't you aged a day?"

"Are you scared of me now that you realize I'm not normal?" I was afraid he wouldn't want me this time since everything is flowing in the wrong order I no longer know what to expect anymore.

He was quiet for a time and my body went limp in defeat, my hand lowering from his face. "How could I be scared? I just want to know everything about you, we made a promise afterall." This was the response he gave while he placed my hand back on his face.

It seems like there is always more going on from Eve's perspective. It makes sense, since Mike isn't aware of the world that he is bound to yet though. I wanted to push this chapter out immediately just to clear up the relationship between Mike and Eve, I wanted it to be clear that she didn't fall in love with an 8 year old, she just recognized who he was.

Edit: 6/16/2020

I found out yesterday that my dad passed away, so I dunno when I'll be updating again. I don't plan on taking too long of a break, but I can't seem to make any progress on Queen of the Night which was next in line for updating, I may just post for whichever I can make progress in until I can get myself back together.
